In the video they talk about Bitcoin, saying it can store your wallet address to receive payment. Wouldn't it be fantastic if it could store your private key too, thus being able to make payments as well? Title: Re: NFC Ring Post by: Aswan on July 26, 2013, 09:24:58 AM Can the NFC be disabled (by shielding or something like that?). Or can the ID be changed? Even tho is got a private and a public part, one could still easily track your movement if he can identify the Ring based on a specific ID that is locked to the NFC chip. I don't want another tracking device, people already enough of them even of they call it "Smart phone".

Good point. probably since the NFC technology only works on a very short distance (if I am not mistaken not more than a few inches or 8-10 cm), it cannot really be defined as a "tracking" system. You usually don't establish any radio communication unless you want to. Am I wrong? :) Title: Re: NFC Ring Post by: Aswan on July 26, 2013, 10:11:38 AM Can the NFC be disabled (by shielding or something like that?). Or can the ID be changed? Am I wrong? :) I am not an RFID specialist, yet I think that the distance depends on the amount of energy induced into the chip. For it to be truely private and non-tracable there should be a way to shield it (even something as simple as moving a small peace of cryptalloy integrated in the ring over the NFC chip my sliding some thing on the rings surface around). or it has to randomly change the chip ID or be reprogrammable to a random ID. I am neither, but it makes sense. Probably shielding it it's an easy solution. Still wonder if it can store private keys and be used to confirm transactions.. The website says it's going to be open source so eventually someone will find a way to make it sign transactions :) Title: Re: NFC Ring Post by: kjj on July 26, 2013, 02:17:01 PM Can the NFC be disabled (by shielding or something like that?). NFC ring is pretty cool stuff we agree! ;D Title: Re: NFC Ring Post by: CurbsideProphet on July 27, 2013, 07:24:21 PM Do you have to use the "alpha man" size ring in order for it to work with the S4 or does the regular size work as well? What about the S3?
Title: Re: NFC Ring Post by: btcton on July 27, 2013, 07:56:54 PM Wow, looks neat.

I am very inclined to "invest" in this.

glad to see it become a reality! Title: Re: NFC Ring Post by: paveq on July 28, 2013, 05:29:10 PM Woow, sounds awsome! Ya that part of was the coolest part. Yeah I agree about storing your private key.In the video they talk about Bitcoin, saying it can store your wallet address to receive payment. Wouldn't it be fantastic if it could store your private key too, thus being able to make payments as well? That might be quite risky for anything but smallest amount of coins, since the private key would be readable for anyone getting close enough. Think about using this in a store: you would have to trust cashier withdrawing right sum. And where would the change go, back to a new key generated by the cashier machine? What if NFC link is interrupted while writing the new key to the ring, would the BTC be lost? Title: Re: NFC Ring Post by: bbit on July 28, 2013, 05:39:50 PM Woow, sounds awsome! Exactly, that's why it should be possible to shield in some way the ring whenever one doesn't want to perform a transaction. Exactly, that's why it should be possible to shield in some way the ring whenever one doesn't want to perform a transaction. I bought one. There are two sides to this ring. An inner and an outer. Each side has a separate NFC chip. The inner is designed to be private. It's shielded by your palm. The outer is designed to be public.
