Title: Anyone running their S9's at more than 240 Volts or tried?
Post by: BitcoinIntern on December 21, 2017, 05:44:12 PM
Hi Folks,

Is anyone running their S9's at more than 240 Volts or tried it? What was your experience? How far can it go over 240 volts? Thanks.

WTF???
the s9 runs off of 12VDC. It could care less what your line voltage is.

Now, the PSU that is supplying said 12vdc, that is a very different thing.
As with all electrical equipment that is prominently labeled with its operating voltage range, only an idiot would even consider feeding it more than the ratings say...

You have a higher line: either get transformers or try to find a PSU that matches your line.

I should have mentioned in the OP that I am using the APW3++ by Bitmain. The PSU's do have some capacity to take the rated voltage a little more than the stated range. So I was just trying to figure out if anyone out there is using voltage more than 240 for their Bitmain PSU's. I know it would be risky to do that and that is why I am asking if anyone did it. Thanks.

I know it would be risky to do that

Then why would you ask such a stupid question if you already know its a stupid question?

Rule #1 when it comes to users of electrical equipment and power systems:
NEVER exceed manufacturers published ratings! Period.

We are here to make money with our gear. Not risk it by playing 'what-if's' with it.

Yes any decent electrical designer will have reserve margins built in but you have no way of knowing what they are nor how much they were squeezed by cost reductions.

Got it. Thanks everyone. I ask because I am running my miners on 236 volt (using taps on a 208) and was just wondering how much room I had in case there was ever a spike on the voltage.
