Title: Server PSU to run a vega rig (configuration troubles)
Post by: kakoluckiam on December 22, 2017, 04:08:44 PM
hi there.
So, I'm going for a 6 vega rig. This means, if I'm correct, that I'll need 12x 6+2pin connectors for the cards, and 6x 6pin connectors for the risers.
Which is the better solution?
I was thinking about a 1200/1400W server PSU like that:
breakout board 12x 6pin connectors;
6x cables 6pin to 2x8 pin (for the GPUs);
6x cables 6pin for the risers.

Than I'll take a 300W or so ATX PSU for the mobo+cpu+fans.

Gonna work?
How does the server PSU work? I mean, once I start the rig or once I shutdown it, will it stop powering the GPUs or i need to connect it someway to the mobo/atx psu?

Thanks!

I got a HP 1200w sever PSU and 12 GPU breakout board. It came with all the cables needed.

I use the Server PSU to power all the GPUs and Risers. I use a Corsair 500w to power the motherboard, CPU and SSD.

I power up the Server GPU first then the motherboard. If you are worried about the system going down while you aren't not home, you can also set up on Wifi Smart Plugs so you can manual turn off and on while away from Rig.
