We have recently seen a increase of threads that are trying to influence people to abandon Bitcoin for the REAL Bitcoin. Have we considered for ourselves, what the REAL Bitcoin is for us and not what the REAL Bitcoin is according to other people?

~ Is Bitcoin the REAL Bitcoin because Roger Ver says so?
~ Is Bitcoin the REAL Bitcoin because Coinbase says so?
~ Is Bitcoin the REAL Bitcoin because the Lightning Network is the ultimate scaling solution?
~ Is Bitcoin the REAL Bitcoin because your local exchange accept it?
~ Is Bitcoin the REAL Bitcoin because the majority of some forum says so?
~ Is Bitcoin the REAL Bitcoin because it is more useful to you now?
~ Is Bitcoin the REAL Bitcoin because Block sizes are the only TRUE method to scale Bitcoin?

You must decide this on your own, without other people telling you what you must believe.

I will tell you WHY I believe in Bitcoin, because I am passionate about one or more aspects of the technology, but you might differ from me. I will tell you why I differ from you and things might become heated, but it is still up to you.

Decide for yourself, what is your REAL Bitcoin and respect other people's opinion on what they think their REAL Bitcoin is.

This makes me think that it would have been better for Satoshi Nakamoto to patent the brand "Bitcoin".
This might be against his consept,but there are hundreds of forked altcoins called "bitcoin" and their number will increase.This creates confusion around the newbies and they might just abandon btc and use ethereum.
I still believe in bitcoin core,but it`s harder than before to use btc as a digital currency and buy goods and services.  

Apart from technology, I always liked the ideology behind Bitcoin, a system that was specifically designed to provide an alternative to the existing flawed monetary system, to take the banking sector head on, to help repressed economies. Commercialization wasn't the motive, neither the price was a criteria, but look now how frequently Bitcoin forks are popping up, how the market is getting driven more by greed and FOMO, how predictions are made about Bitcoin hitting $1M, how plans are made to buy Lambos with the profit. So basically the whole thing has come down to price rather than value. Investing into Bitcoin for own financial self-interest is good, but when the majority follows this pattern, Bitcoin would lose the purpose for why it was created in the first place. Roger Ver said in 2013:


And this same guy is manipulating and pumping the hell out of his altcoin. Imagine, if the early adopters of Bitcoin and the ones who are into Bitcoin now started manipulating it for their own personal gain, quite possible, might be happening. It would limit Bitcoins usage. A large scale adoption will make the market less susceptible to manipulation and profit-seeking behavior. All this infighting and drama is affecting adoption. IMO the real Bitcoin (not about Core vs Ver or Bitcoin vs Bitcoin Cash) is the one that wouldn't only make a few financially independent, but having a disruptive economical impact which would not only empower a good number of the world population, but would also establish their trust and faith in a decentralized system.

I respect other people's view and opinion about a certain subject, but when it comes to the point that they're involving black propaganda and shoving their ideals on my throat, that is where it gets nasty for me. Though Roger Ver seems to be a likeable guy, the way he pushes his BCH together with his followers are really annoying and over the top already. I am using bitcoin and only using BCH for profit gains, nothing more.


Which defeats the purpose of bitcoin being an open-source code, then.

I wish he did that,and I wrote that few times before.Most of old users know difference between forked and original BTC,but so many new users are completely confused about what BTC they should use.In that situation many decides to buy BTC which has a lower price and lot of money go in BCH&BTG pockets.Just imagine if new forked coins can not use "bitcoin" in their name,probably would not have 30% of value they have today.

Regarding real BTC,we know that is only one,what do somebody else think is his right or maybe problem if we look on long term.First BTC has been proven throughout the years,it is still alive and have great value.At this time there are big problems with slow confirmations and high fees,fortunately the solution to this problem is possible very close.

That's why we really have to debunked a lot of paid schills around spreading false news about bitcoin. Not only here, but if you go around social media, Damn, I'm surprise how much schills have putting a lot lies and trying to swayed lots of newcomers in saying that they are the "Real Bitcoin",  big blocks and other arguments that I started to laugh at it instead of arguing with them. There's really a lot of manipulation from the background, pouring lots of media to really circumvent the truth what bitcoin is. I agree with @dothebeats, that we have to respect the opinions of other but its really hard to stomach everything they say because its ain't the truth. I believed in bitcoin because it was really designed to take away middle man, third party, We are in total control of our bitcoins and no one else.

Who is he to say that? He thinks that Bitcoin Cash possesses a real value, do you think the same way?


They will always support it because they are getting major volume due to that "REAL Bitcoin" being traded there.


I really wish to see what LN can really offer as what we expected from SegWit, we received like just 10% of it. Hope LN will really be delivering something different but unique.


Not worried about this as we have alternatives available and we can even trade it directly without the help of exchanges as well.

Block sizes may/may not scale Bitcoins but I am sure they won't be anywhere effective in terms of fee reduction.


The major Bitcoin according to me will always be the one that started off the whole revolution no matter what. Even if some coin with "first name" Bitcoin ahead of it, gets through and make it above Bitcoins, I will still love the current REAL Bitcoins because it's original, one of its own kind and something that came up with a self-evolving technology that doesn't really need a person to handle it.

We all know what real bitcoin is and what's the difference between bitcoin and it's forged coins. Now these so called 'real bitcoin' with various names starting with bitcoin cash to bitcoin uranium to bitcoin diamond. I obviously do not believe in any other coins with bitcoin as a predecessor except for bitcoin itself. Bitcoin cash by far has been the only one which I'd say is at least close to decent. But one thing is sure, come what may, bitcoin will be bitcoin and alts will be alts even if they have bitcoin as it's predecessor and bitcoin will dominate and will still be the one which the majority will prefer to use. So no one has to get confused here except for people to whom bitcoin is a complete stranger.

Yes, each of us must decide on our own which Bitcoin is the real Bitcoin and the market, collectively, will be the ultimate decider of which coin remains supreme!

The reality is that the question is not which Bitcoin is the real Bitcoin, but which coin is the most valuable, useful coin. And the truth is that there is more than one!

Huge amounts of forks will only dilute the forks and make the actual Bitcoin (BTC) shine as the #1 original coin.

The real Bitcoin is the original network that has not forked, and that is, the current 1MB, Nakamoto consensus network that we've had since day 1.

The only possibility for a fork to be the real Bitcoin is if there was 100% consensus about it, then the old chain would be irrelevant and Bitcoin as we know it would continue on the new chain.

No matter how many times Ver or anyone else claim their fork is the real Bitcoin.. it isn't, because there was no 100% consensus about it, so it's an altcoin.

If you're passionate about one or more aspects of the technology, then I would understand why you believe in the blockchain system but not really why you believe in bitcoin. Altcoins can be created off the same system as bitcoin.

I don't think I have any other reason other than that it's the most known coin as well as that it has the highest market cap. There's a good amount of supply and demand for the coin which makes it a keeper for me. If I see the support severely dwindling down, then I will consider a different coin.

personally I don't care about this cause it's not about what's the real bitcoin it's about what people should be using
I don't support bitcoin cash at all , but bitcoin is obviously not usable today and won't scale if transactions stay like this
personally I liked bitcoin at first place cause it enables me as a Syrian to do whatever I want online , cause all the popular ewallets don't support my country

the fees are insane , and people can't use bitcoin worldwide anymore !!
people are saying that it's a store of value , well do you know that the 60$ fees that some people are paying considered fortune in some countries ( it's kinda one month salary here ) so how people in my country can store their money ?!?!

I respect them on what they so called real bitcoin but for me the real bitcoin is bitcoin itself. They want to get some respect from the community but they are the ones that dragging the community down so I wouldn't blame others for disrespecting them if they are running politics through the entire crypto market. Because of these drama's we are all affected with their intention to bring something good for themselves.

The fact that BCH  is currently following Satoshi's path has been dissccused before and I don't think so. Bitcoin is bitcoin and BCH is just a fork.

How it does really matter? If Bitcoin really split down the middle, you shouldn't be bothered about the name of each fork. You should pick the fork with features you think will succeed.
If you believe that increased decentralization is the most important feature, then ignore Bitcoin Cash. If you think that lower fees are the most important feature, then go with Bitcoin Cash. The name really shouldn't matter.

Yes, BCH is just a fork, bitcoin is the only with its identity

Bitcoin is the real Bitcoin for me, all others are just altcoins, technically it's not possible to make the altcoin bitcoin... bitcoin will stay bitcoin

Personally I disagree with this relativistic view of things where each person gets to decide what something means, if we do that then everything losses its meaning not only bitcoin, that is why to me the only bitcoin is the one created by satoshi and maintained by the devs.

1. BTC is the only original bitcoin, only scammers will argue about it. It is the first and original bitcoin bitcoin. It is like taking a car, upgrading it and claiming that it is the original car and the others are fake.

3. Yes. If BCH will ever get  the current volume of BTC it will need to increase its block size again and again. The current lower tx fee doesn't make it more legit. Lighting network will solve the problem for the original BTC.

Not all the time. Imho when all media space is shited with a fake news it is good to follow any solid expert view instead of making mistakes on your own. People just should have a critical view on everything.

So you are saying, Bitcoin must be defined by what other people say it must be? <even if that people is Satoshi?> What happens if the Core Devs are replaced by some malicious group, intent on destroying Bitcoin? Would you still regard it as the REAL Bitcoin then?

Some people are blaming the current Core Developers for all the problems we have now, but they have no clue why they should not do that, because they are fixated on Satoshi's white paper and not on the limitations of his code and what can resolve the situation.

Real Bitcoin? That is honestly no one's right to decide. Real isn't subjective. There is only one true Bitcoin, and that's the legacy chain we're using right now. All the others are forks. They stopped being Bitcoin the moment they were forked.

The only real point of argument is which one adheres most closely to Satoshi's whitepaper. I would still say the legacy chain does, but I also see why others may feel differently.

  Obviously my real bitcoin is  the original Bitcoin. Nothing more, nothing less. Since the first time i saw it, i immidiately fell in love with it so fast. I loved its ideologies, the problems it would be solving and have solved, the rich history behind it. And of course, the coolness it has. Which really made my day .

Defining the REAL bitcoin could come down to a darwinist, survival-of-the-fittest, crypto coin battle royale. The REAL bitcoin will be determined by which bitcoin survives. I'm throwing my support behind Satoshi's vision and dream. I'll never use a forked version of btc, even if there is money to be made by doing so.

Forked coins require new traders who don't know much to sustain their dump cycle. Hopefully there will be a very limited number of individuals who will buy artificially pumped forks. And hopefully we can rely on the internet for accurate and up to date information on forks, which will help people from buying in when the price of artificially pumped, market manipulated, forks are in their dump cycle.

The most telling thing is that bitcoin still has the name. Most hype and new investment will be because of publicity about bitcoin and it already has a huge 'brand' so to speak. Most people on the street will never have heard of bitcoin cash.

This doesn’t quite make sense to me… what do you mean by real Bitcoin? Are you trying to say that most of us here are using fake Bitcoin or what? Of all people in cryptocurrency community,, Roger ver is the most ambitious and much talking individual I’ve ever hated after JMorgan CEO Jaime Dimon it makes me think about they’re unwarranted statements are made with self interest and selfishness.. REAL bitcoin is not those forking coins that pumps by individuals who make bad comments to bitcoin after benefiting from it for many years..

Actually these people have to blame. They are finding something for blaming and when nothing is found, they turn over some amazing thing and start finding loopholes. They are doing this right now with bitcoins. Questions are being risen then what the developer’s policies are and how we know they are right persons to this job or not or whether they become malicious. For God sake wake up.

I suppose it depends how to define "real" in this instance. I would say the original Bitcoin is the real one. If that's the best one is another question entirely. Certainly has the most support currently. I guess BCH is the only other one really in the running to be considered real by any means. Only time will tell what is the true success. The original will always be the real one to me though.

Monero is probably the real vision that Satoshi had about bitcoin, seriously, maybe you think that i am joking but that is the real truth, cheap fees, fast transaction, fully private, it has a lot of features.

The real bitcoin for me is on those times that i read up Bitcoins whitepaper when im still a newbie back in previous years. I dont even care on other people says even on Roger ver or into those lightning network or fork groups or whatsoever. For now i do love its usage and the opportunity that it give but the thing i do hesitate now is that its true usage on whats written on the white paper is already opposing because of such high fees and slow confirmation of transactions.

Many people these days have came into bitcoin not knwoing what it is, except the fact that it is a way of making moeny, they treat it as an investment and that is all, they don't know what it represents, i won't lie at first i was one of those people, i saw the price of the bitcoin and i thought that it would be a good way to make moeny, but after a couple of months of using it and diving into it, i learned what it truely is, i discoverd the true reson why satoshi nakamoto created this currency, for me bitcoin is a way of life it makes me feel like i am actualy in control, knwong that i am not being watched by goverment or banks that limite the way i spend my hard earned moeny.

Simple, if that were to happen that will mean that bitcoin failed and some other coin will need to change the world and take the lead, there is only one bitcoin, all other coins are different projects, that does not mean there is innovation going on those coins but if they want to replace bitcoin they need to do more than just creating an ico and have some flashy name.

Yes.Its sad to see that bitcoin getting decided to be true or not by the bitcoin antichrist and FUD spreaders.They are trying their level their best to show BCH as the best alternative to bitcoin to solve the solutions which bitcoin suffers.Even they go the extent of terming BCH as the true bitcoin fulfilling satoshi's idea :o :o :o

But i would always consider the core bitcoin as the true bitcoin and i feel comfortable by just holding my bitcoins.Whatever BCH or any other forked coin gets pumped,i just don't bother about it.

I view it like how a kingdom works. Bitcoin is the first king, the founder of crypocurrency without him any other coins won't exist. By the years passed by it will grow old, start to suffer some disease high transaction fees, clogged network etc. We do treatment by doing this hard fork but still he can't live forever. With this in mind is Birth of the Prince/Princess (Altcoin) which have more capabilities , much more flexible (higher blocksize), etc. Soon the current king will die and a new leader will be choosen, who it might be? We still don't know.
For me Bitcoin has few more years before it will be replaced as the top coin. It will not die but his current seat will soon be taken by someone.

Well, you stand to be corrected on that part. The current 1MB Bitcoin is not what we had on day 1, as far as I know. The truly original Bitcoin had a blocksize equal to 32MB. It was only later that the size had been dramatically decreased by Satoshi himself since back then 32MB blocks were a little bit overkill. And so large blocks would likely lead to heavy centralization of the network even today, beyond what we already have. Which is one of the reasons why the Bitcoin Core team don't want to increase the block size.
