someone told me that big exchanges charge $5000 to get your coin listed. its serious?

it is different in different exchanges. they usually have a section for you to go to and request your coin to be listed there. and the payments are also different too.
$5000 seems small compared to rates i have seen to be honest.

Yeah, as holder says, it depends on the exchanges. $5,000 must be from a very small exchange. Yobit, which really is as small as it gets, charges 0.5 BTC - and this is not a guarantee, this fee is to review the coin for listing. That's about $6k or so right now? From what I recall, it is still possible for some exchanges to voluntarily list your coin if there is enough request from users, usually on Twitter and the like. But fee-wise, it currently costs even $50,000 for a few months worth of listing on some of the big names out there, according to Slack discussions of projects I've seen. Pretty good money for exchanges, yeah?

On average exchanges take from 0.5-3 btc, but there are those that do the listing for free.
