The famous player of Rungsted, Nikolaj Rosenthal (26-year-old) is agreed to receive his salary in the ever-skyrocketing cryptocurrency. Now he is also the first professional sportsmen ever where the salary is paid in terms of digital currency.

Even though some people support paying with bitcoin, bitcoin payments are still a hot spot, and overhandling is still a problem.

Man, I wish I would get a nice contract that pays me in Bitcoin. I'd just play out the rest of my career, earning my salary and hoarding it as Bitcoin, while living off money from sponsorships and bonuses. Sportspeople these days "retire" by their mid-30s, so Rosenthal's got about 7 years to build up his personal wealth. And who knows what Bitcoin would be worth in 7 years?

That's now three football players of some renown I have heard of getting involved with Bitcoin/crypto. We've got ex-Everton Joleon Lescott doing a blockchain charity project, Leo Messi being the face of the new blockchain phone and now Rosenthal earning in Bitcoin. We all know who's probably going to end up being the wealthiest ;)


Not sure what you mean by this. Players in modern European football get their wages paid weekly, and I highly doubt he'll mind paying 900 sats/byte to get his payments confirmed. Hell, maybe even skimp on fees and wait months for them to confirm, not like he'll need them urgently.
