Title: Withdrawing BTC from MTgox 'Invalid bitcoin address, please confirm your input'
Post by: btctraderr on July 28, 2013, 10:14:36 AM
Exactly as the title reads, address is correct, tried multiple times on different addresses, still no luck. Give me my money MTgox! Anyone had similar problem?

I believe I heard on #mtgox on freenode IRC that this happens if the MtGox hot wallet is low on funds. It should be fixed quite soon, especially now that Japanese Business hours have started again.

i tried to do a little abitrage.. :D its not even worth if there is 50 USD difference between prices to other exchanges.

My guess is that with the consistent >10$ difference everyone's trying some arbitrage at the moment, hence the exhaustion of the hot wallet! :O

How is that?
With Gox price higher, people would want BTC to be IN gox, so they can sell high.
But what I don't get is, how are these people getting the USD out?! Since there is almost no way to withdraw USD from Gox.

Oh yeah, good point, wasn't thinking properly. I guess people are just buying BTC and withdrawing it elsewhere, hence the continuing rise in the exchange rate. Arbitrage would then only make sense once USD withdrawal problems are sorted out.

I placed a support ticket, and kept trying to withdraw, as I clicked it for the millionth time it was a success. Same address, same everything. The support desk person must have either flicked a switch and made it work or the hotwallet got some more funds.

I got a reply back from my support ticket.

"Hello Vox,

Thank you for contacting us. It appears for some reason this error is triggered from the platform for few BTC withdrawals specially, we are currently investigating on the cause and the solution.

However please drop a line if you were able to withdraw after a while. We appreciate your patience and sincere apologies for the inconveniences caused.

Best regards,

Mt.Gox Team
https://www.mtgox.com"

Hope this helps.. I think it just boils down to the things you want to do to make money are going to be made hard? lulz

Forget about getting your central bank money back after investing in BTC?  I'm in it for the long haul and have no interest in not having BTC =D

Regards

So it took 7 hours?

It was more like 24-48 hours between their twp emails.. I didn't get the first message that I had sent a ticket posted right away... I never tried re-sending to the address that wasn't working.. I just sent to a different address.

Just chiming in that this "Invalid bitcoin address, please confirm your input" BS is still alive and well.  Count me as another screwed pooch.  I can't even believe how cross this makes me...  Mt. Gox can't expect to survive with this kind of "Paypal'esque" customer abuse can they?

Srsly wtf.  Telling me my addresses are bad to cover their lack of funds?  What evil.  Do they care how much time I wasted trying addresses from 4 different wallets before coming here to find kindred souls?

Just happened to me too...  but I clicked submit/confirm or whatever again and it worked the 4th time.

Oh well, happy to be out of gox anyway.

Yeah, got my btc out the next day after a customer support guy answered and said its a bug and that i should keep trying....  So i sat there like a pigeon at a laboratory cage feed reward button and kept bashing the pay button 4 or 5 times every 5 minutes. For an hour.  It eventually worked.  Bit i definitely ran up the internal index counter on my yubikey.  Heh, not that it matters.

Fix this Mt Gox!  It strikes fear in the hearts of your customers when you lock their funds!!!!  Bug or not, there is little excuse.

Just to give an update on my understanding: Earlier I suggested it was due to exhaustion of the hot wallet, but I may have also heard that it's because of too many people withdrawing simultaneously - i.e. there's a limit to the amount of transactions that can be handled concurrently. Either way, try again later unfortunately.

I have the same problem. I've tried several times and nothing. I sent a support for complaining. I do not think back use Mtgox  after so many problems and delays in withdrawals.

EDIT:

I get all my bitcoins. We must insist.

I had the same issue when I was withdrawing the last of my funds from MTGox... I used an old address I had already used on MTGox in the past and it worked, but trying to enter any new address that I'd never used always failed with the error indicated.

If you've withdrawn before and have the old wallet address, try entering that one and see if it works.  Escape Gox while you can!

mt.gox shows a considerable growth in btc volume today - (Volume:23321 BTC) that, together with the increase in btc price (high:142), makes me think that people try to buy btc and withdraw them from mt.gox.

Yeah, I eventually got mine to go through. Allthough the first few that "went through" actually didn't go through at all but were double-spends by gox (see thread on this elsewhere). I strongly suspect that the theory that this happens when gox's hotwallet is empty is spot-on. This happens whenever the gap between gox price and stamp price is narrower than usual. You get a run on withdrawals at gox which results in an empty hot wallet. Count on this taking ~2-3 days to resolve.  >:(

After receiving this error repeatedly and finding this thread, it occurred to me that it might be due to browser incompatibilities. I switched from Chrome to Safari, and the error disappeared. I hope that anybody finding this thread again will be able to resolve the issue just like this, without the need of clicking repeatedly and crossing fingers.
