Title: Looking for good poker player
Post by: Sothh on July 28, 2013, 04:13:01 PM
Hey all, I think I have a dream job to offer.  I need a good poker player, which I will fund, to win money on Seals with Clubs or another good bitcoin poker site.

I need someone that can constantly win more money than they loose.  If, at any point, they loose more money than they win, our agreement will be terminated.

The agreement:

I will back the chips needed to play in open games and tournaments.  I will expect 1/2 of all winnings.  (If win BTC0.5 in a tournament, I get half.)

Also note that bank I give you is still mine.  So if I give you BTC0.5 for bank, and you win BTC0.5, (a total of BTC1), BTC0.75 is mine, and BTC0.25 is yours.

If I request the bank and you fail to send it to me, the agreement is terminated and you will be reported on the forum.

As such, only players with a high level of trust will be chosen.

One last note, if you do loose it all the bank, our agreement will be terminated, but I will not report you.  I am carrying the risk of the game.

this is very common in poker, its called being the backer and "staking" someone. all of the terms that you listed are normal. 50/50 profit split. the backer takes all the risk. etc.

however

i will caution you that while some of these arrangements do work out, the majority fail big time. consider: if the poker player was so good, shouldn't he have his own money to play on? if someone was a proven, long term winner, then they would definitely prefer to keep 100% of their profits than to give up half, in exchange for the risk. most "horses" are not good enough to win on their own, and require a backer otherwise they would not be in action.

Yeah, for small stakes you are probably best off buying pieces of people using sealsdeals.

I play on Seals a lot, and while there is money to be won (Im up a lot of coins on the site), you have to understand the risks are substantial. Its not uncommon for winning players to go on losing streaks. Furthermore, anyone accepting this offer is likely to have lost their entire bankroll at some point in the past. If they still had a bankroll, why would they be looking for a backer?

I would consider doing it but only to play the highest stakes on the site: 50-100 NL up through 150-300 (buy ins of 10-30 BTC).

So, if you have at least 100+ BTC to play with I would consider doing it, Im not looking to risk such a % of my own bankroll on those stakes - yet.

m'yeah, this principle also exists on fiat currencies tables, now this is a (tough) job, not a dream job in any case.

Besides, on your side, be sure to check the player's statistics (well... after making sure you thoroughly understand poker players statistics) if you want to have a good idea of your "potential" long-term ROI.
