My name is Pete. I am the lead dev at CoinedUp.com, which is a new crypto-only currency exchange. I am here to participate in exchange related discussions and also to build a reputation for CoinedUp.com

Building a reputation for safe, fast, accurate trades does take time, but that is the nature of the beast. To give people an incentive to try us out, we will not be charging exchange fees until January 2014. Also, we will never charge withdrawal fees.

The entire bitcoin space is growing everyday, which is why, I believe, our own little piece of the community is growing every day.

Welcome to the forums Pete, please tell us more about yourself, the company and why we should consider using your services.

We created CoinedUp.com mostly because we could. We had experience with lean start-ups, and we wanted to be a part of the bitcoin/crypto community. Since I personally have been a software engineer and DB dev for over 13 years now, I rallied a team to take on the project. We went crypto-only because the regulations are just too overbearing for a hard-currency market.

The other big reason for starting our own exchange was withdrawal-fees on other exchanges. It's ludicrous to me that there would be a fee for withdrawing money from one's exchange account (besides the miner/TX fee). Because of competition, typical stock trading companies don't do that, so why should crypto based companies be able to? CoinedUp.com will never charge withdrawal fees.

While we build up our customer base, we're totally free. We want people to try us out. We hope to convince customers to give us that minimal trust, while build up our reputation for safe, fast, and accurate trades.

We plan to start charging a small flat-rate exchange fee in January 2014. We only need the minimal funds to pay for the servers and such. The team takes no pay, and doesn't plan to for the near future. We enjoy being part of the growing crypto community.

Seems like Cryptsy kills it b/c they offer so many different coins. Always interested in new exchanges - what makes yours different?

Cryptsy is great. I like them, and I think they will eventually start to offer a BTC/USD market - a path that we may want to duplicate. I feel like they offer too many altcoins. I think that CoinedUp will probably only add the more promising alts. We're looking at possibly adding feathercoin and primecoin in our next update. Aside from zero withdrawal fees, our key difference will be the flat-rate exchange fee (coming on January 2014). Flat-rate is something that separates us from the rest of exchanges in a big way.

The interesting thing is that no one exchange can or should have the entire market. At some point when an exchange gets too big, they start to sacrifice either safety, speed, or accuracy, and a percentage of customers will start to go elsewhere.

Barring some sort of distributed exchange protocol, the free market demands that there are always choices in crypto-exchanges. The fact that we exist will influence what other exchanges charge for their various services.

I see you just added DOGE to the exchange, I want to get rid of all the DOGE I've mined but haven't traded so far (about 2.4MIL) but my order keeps getting rejected. Any ideas why?

So I managed to successully deposit DOG, but it will not let me place a sell order. In other forums I am hearing reports of buy orders also being rejected. Will this be fixed soon?

It was extremely slow though.

I have been on the site a few times, but haven't deposited or placed in orders yet. I'm absolutely fine with OpenID login, but it will definitely drive some traders away. Biggest complaint I've been hearing is it being laggy/slow/down. Sounds like you need a server upgrade! Hope you get it working like a charm!

Site is working much better now, tho still requires the occasional 'refresh.'

Deposits/Withdrawals are very fast.

Very happy to see that LTC/DOGE is being offered, in addition to BTC/DOGE.

Have successfully executed multiple trades on the above boards, for surprisingly higher amounts than I thought I would get. Kudos!!

Head's up though, a new exchange will be launching in the next 2-3 days that will also be offering DOGE - gratz on being the first though!

Hi Pete!  Good luck to you and coinedup!  I have to agree with you that the withdrawal fees (beyond a miner's fee) from many of the alt coin exchanges are ridiculous and I think give you a competitive opening!

Jumping on the DOGE wagon was brilliant.  I had not seen coinedup until I was looking for an exchange for that coin.

Like Gumbart, I also wanted to ask about the google log on though.  What's the deal with that?  I would probably already be on and trading DOGEs if it wasn't for that.

As I mentioned in my earlier post I love what you are trying to do.  I even read up on google open ID and tried to trade on coinedup!  However, the order system didn't work for me on Chrome.  I finally tried it in Firefox and it worked okay but you may want to alert your users.

Some additional questions & comments:
A new address is generated after every deposit, do I have to use it or can I reuse old addresses?
I'm new to some of these coins, on the wallet page you may want to write out their names not just their abbreviations.

You are not dumb, it is not obvious and not explained well, or even at all.  Basically you need some sort of google account, e.g. gmail.  Use that credential to log in, e.g. "open ID".  Then you go to your account.  I did it and it worked but I'm not totally sure how safe open ID is, but it seems legit.

They said 40 minutes ago that they were warming the servers up and would be up in 10 minutes. I just want to warn them that leaving the servers in the microwave for this long is going to cause damage, and that servers don't even need warming up at all.  You can serve them cold.

I'm really liking this site. Once they have the site up and running smoothly, and with the low fees, I think they could gain a ton of use. Best of luck with the site coinedup!

CoinedUp looks good but i have two problems with them:

1. it is so slow, sometimes it timed out.
2. graphs are not showing for me at all.

There are some hard-to-find pairs on CoinedUp.com, which is great.  I'm running into slow access as well; sometimes page loads of over 30 seconds.  :(

been using coinedup for a bit now just mainly for RPC and XIV since there are no other exchanges for them, its nice to see an exchange with a lot of those one off type coins so we can trade them.

I was trading RPC too. my 1 RPC suddenly disappeared never reached coineup. I hope they resolve it soon

I use coinedup for any transaction that I can mostly because it is free and tends to work fairly well with a well updated twitter. If fees go to equal other exchanges I will switch to one of those instead for even better reliability because coinedup would do little to keep my business except in introducing NEW coins. Keep that and I can justify staying

I have been using coinedup.com as my primary exchange for CAT/DOGE and DOGE/LTC since 12/17/2013.  I had GREAT success in trading my coins and coming off pretty well.  Below are a few things I like & dislike about the site.

Likes:
1. NO FEES!!!!!(more coins in my wallet)
2. Never had any issues with transactions, so fast transactions
3. Support was quick to respond to an issue I had

Dislikes:
1. You never know if the site is going to be UP or DOWN
2. Why do you use Google OpenID instead of letting users create accounts?  What access are users giving away to their email accounts?  Read Only access?
3. The visuals (I know, nick-picking) The site looks like it is from the early 2000's
4. The site can be extremely slow @ times
5. You guys need to add more coins

The bottom-line is that I will continue to use coinedup.com for some coins and alternative sites for coins unavailable on coinedup.com.

I really like coinedup. It had some serious uptime issues a couple of months ago but that has all been resolved. The trade/depo/withdraw times definitely meet my expectations.  I would like to see other coins on the market though (ie: piratecoin,MOUSE, etc)

One big problem with coinedup is the trading priority.

If you look at VEL (VelocityCoin) for example, it was at one point 300 Satoshi.  Then you see tons of trades jumping from 300 and 550 Satoshi, but at no times the sell orders put bellow 550 Satoshi got filled.

For example, price is 300.  you have sell orders at 350, 400, 450, 500 and 550.  Then you look the graph, you see prices at 300, then 550, then 300 again, then 550 again.  But the sell orders at 350, 400, 450 and 500 are still intact.

So, WHY DOES SELLS OCCURS AT 550 if those bellow doesn't get filled first?  Until this is fixed, that is pure junk trading site.

welcome to the forum and I wish you the best on the trading platform I do like being able to see the prices at a glance on the front page. Only issues for me so far is 1. trust and 2. slow load speeds on the site

Couldn't have put it better myself.

To all those using Chrome, add "--allow-running-insecure-content" to your Target under your Chrome shortcut's properties then restart the browser. You should then be able to see the charts without any problems. Apparently the charts are considered to be insecure scripts, or something to that effect.

Liking the site :). I have mainly been using it to trade XIV.

The only small problem I have with the site is when you deposit BTC it says 2 confirmations will display, however, it takes hours and many confirmations for the BTC to display in your website wallet. Other than that, the website is very good.

Dear coinedup! I belive I tell everyone wish, could you please increase your server power? because the site is beginning to slow down terribly at the slightest increase in trade, badly hurt to login  for 15 minutes to see that coins you want to sell or buy already dissappeared from orders :(

I have been using the site for awhile, it is SLOOOOOWWWW but has always worked.  You can use a google account to log in.  At first I didn't like the openID angle, but it works, just slow or did I already mention that?   ;D

Of course, since the service is currently free, really can't complain, but I worry about its long term viability.

One refresh of the "Wallet" page takes more than 10 minutes. coinedup is the slowest website I have ever used.

edit: Now it takes about 1 to 2 minutes, so it seems to be "fixed". Still stoneage loading speeds.

Seriously CoinedUp, upgrade your servers. Also, your flavicon is a Google logo for some reason, i'd think of changing that if I were you, not sure if Google would be happy about that :P.

I can't trade on this site , it's way too slow , please admin do something! This is way too frustrating , wanted to buy some FZ and the time it took me to login , deposit my btc , went to FZ buy page and the price I was looking for was gone (it increased) ... arrrgh

it's not smooth at all there now and it commonly give me "page not found" or similar error when I click in 2-coin exchange rates and I need to refresh.

I know its free but I had to give up trading this morning. Moved my stuff to Cryptsy and traded there.
I would love to use this site more but it really is exceedingly slow at times.

As soon as you find the computer power to have your site run smoothly, then, my friend, you are on to a winner.
I will endeavour to use coinedup daily, all whilst feeling like I am on a 1998  speed computer all over again...  ;)

Would be useful to be able to see what I previously paid for a stock, as the ''show all'' button takes all those seconds extra to open.

Why is it that the site runs slow, I am certain it is costing you a good slice of marketshare. Surely worth the capital investment.  :)

this is literally the slowest site ive ever been on, I've been trying to login for HOURS.

It refreshes onto the main page, I can press login with google ID and then gives me  the webpage is not available

Much respect to the guys behind the site (despite the obvious speed issues, although I found Chrome/Comodo Dragon seemed to load the site better than Opera & I'm sure the site speed will be sorted shortly).

coinedup.com looks a bit dull and unprofessional but works great. Maybe change the UI a bit.

Why is it so sllooooooooooow??? It's the slowest of the few exchanges out there like 10 ore more minutes waiting I only use it for coins that are not on cryptsy but if you can get it faster i could use for others just soo sooo slow!

It just spins and spins and spins forever once in a while i login then click on wallet same, once yesterday finally got to it tried to withdraw tesla coins said confirmed but nothing i see coins in wallet just very frustrating and time consuming.

Ive successfully transferred DIME LTC and BTC here.  I just wish you guys would add CNOTE to your exchange.

If you're looking for evidence that they aren't a scam and do things correctly, here's my story. CoinedUp is SUPER AWESOME! Thankfully, not a scam at all!

I don't really know what you guys are talking about with a slow site. I just deposited 1 btc, waited 2 confirmations (which they said it would take), and then my btc was in my wallet. Then I bought about half a million dogecoin, everything got credited. And then I requested a withdrawal to my dogecoin wallet.

It was there in my wallet in like a minute.

This was one of the quickest, most straightforward transactions I've ever taken part in. AMAZING site!

P.S. It's too bad they have so many altcoins on there though; too much choice leads to confusion and inaction. I think if they just did 3 different coins or maybe 5

Coined up works well for me.  I have been able to trade and withdraw with no problems.

I have used the site for awhile without issues.  I wish pete would check in more.  The site has added a .1% trading fee, which ironically I think is good since I didn't see how they would be supported without one.  They claim some new coins are coming soon.

they pre-calculate into the bid/ask but I think they should calculete it after trade like btc-e.
if not, they will loose users.

We're no longer a free exchange. The 0.1% (or 1 satoshi. whichever is greater) fee is pre-calculated into the BID/ASK. We display the orderbook as-is (We feel it would be dishonest to do anything but as-is), which is why the top BUY/SELL may be different from the BID/ASK. (note: exchange rates below 50 satoshis have no fees, since even 1 satoshi would be 'too much' of a fee).

We put the fees into the BID/ASK in order to streamline the math to the user. As a trader, you get what you ask for. Nothing is deducted later. After some debate, we decided that this was the more natural way to go, and that other exchanges are doing it wrong.

I think what is missing is the UI elements to display the BID/ASK for each orderbook entry (not just the top buy/sell orders). We plan to add tooltips, so that traders can see what the bid/ask is when they mouse-over any orderbook entry.

In the near future we will be opening mBTC based markets, which will fit some of the 'cheaper' coins much better and will open up the those markets.

Additionally, our long term goal is to provide actual liquidity to our markets. This system we have now would dovetail nicely into a fully featured market-maker, which we plan to implement in the future.

The bid has to be above the ask by 1 point for the trade to execute so a 1.6% fee can be taken from every trade.

Not a joke, they just wanted to make their site a million times more complicated to use.
I have just traded there, it's a real PITA.  Why go the functioning way that everyone else has taken?

Pete, I love coinedup and am totally cool with the .1% fee as you have to cover your costs.  But every other trading site can't be wrong, and even if they are, it's not what traders are used to.  I'd really encourage you to not try and "roll in" the trading fee to the price quotes just break it out as a separate charge, everyone understands that.

I'll keep using coinedup regardless of what you do, but think it will help people be more comfortable trading with you.

I actually like the fee better this way. i just dislike the minimum 1 satoshi fee per coin rule.On a coin like DOGE, DGB and mana others that makes the fee 10 times higher or more.

With the greatest respect to the platform, which I have loved using, this new system on the order book is just plain incorrect. It will drive away users and I am fairly sure this is already happening, I have seen very limited trading going through on the doge market compared to previous days since this system was implemented. No other exchange in the crypto world or the standard financial instrument implements their fees this way. This effectively makes fees exorbitantly high, on doge for example fees at 135sats that I have to trade at 136 becomes 0.74%. If we take Earthcoin as an example it gets worse, say 19/18=5.5%. This is fundamentally broken.

The system must be adjusted such that a flat fee of x.x%, for example 0.1%, is charged on the total value of each trade. Even if this had a minimum value, it would be acceptable.

If you stick with the current system, you will lose customers rapidly as they realise this is not just a temporary bug and is in fact a deliberate error of judgement.

As I stated, I want to keep my business here, but if this isn't resolved in a matter of days I will be forced to take my business elsewhere. I cannot live with this flawed system.

EDIT: Since I wrote this I read above and discovered this system works down to exchange rates of 50sats only, so my EAC example is wrong. I still think the system is fundamentally flawed though, as on a 50sat coin we have a 2% trading fee. If you wanted to maintain a maximum of 0.1% you would need to remove fees from any coins with an exchange rate lower than 1000sats. Otherwise the fee % rises rapidly to a ridiculous rate. Doge is one of the biggest volume markets, but you will kill it on CoinedUp. Having said this, even if the fees were not exorbitantly high for these low value coins, the system is still just massively uncomfortable for any user and is contrary to the fee systems customers are happy with. So this change alone would not allow me to continue my business here.

Great feedback on this issue. It's clear that the situation we have now will not stand.

Our original concern was that most of our markets are under 1000 satoshis, so we're not collecting any fees for a significant portion of trades.

Our current fix is to enforce the '1 satoshi fee rule', which is also not the correct solution mainly for reasons stated above.

We've been working hard on support for mBTC based markets, which is not only a better currency base for most altcoins, but will also solve the 'fee' situation. With mBTC based markets, there is much more resolution in the trading price since you have three more digits to work with. For 'fees', even 1 satoshi can have a 0.1% fee on it because of the extra resolution.

Right now, I don't want to go into a technical explanation of how we are able to support mBTC markets. There were a few technical hurdles we had to cross, but the solutions we came up with are working well in our test arena. One thing I'll mention is the 'under 1 satoshi' dust that can build up. The solution there was to simply track it and let it build up into 1 satoshi amounts, which with then be available for withdrawal.

We will remove the '1 satoshi fee rule' within 24 hours, and the mBTC based markets should be live in 48 hours or less.

The doge enthusiasts expected the price to explode after block reward halving, but the price kept dropping.
We will see where the price will go, when the block reward going to be halved again in about 9 days.

Doge isn't really worthwhile at the moment to be honest, I doubt it's going anywhere but straight into the trashcan.

Fee is ok, mbtc market is semi ok, but damn bids/asks price is just sick.

Fee is okay.  I do not like the mBTC market, should just be btc.  Maybe some way to just show the coin pairs you are interested in seeing.

I am also worried about volume as bid ask spreads are pretty large.

EDIT:  One other idea, some indicator of volume for the trading pairs.

Apparently CoinedUp is on its way Down. They keep notifying to withdraw. Right now Moon and Tips.  Many others.
I tried to send them to Cryptsy. Coined up says TIPS Pending, MOON Rejected???? Cryptsy does not see any attempted deposits.

True, but there are only 9 altcoins listed now on CoinedUp and the transaction volumes are very low.
It is definitely not a good news to me.

It just tells you "4 months" is already a very long period in the crypto-world.
It also tells you how difficult it is to predict the price of altcoins and how risky it is to invest in altcoins. ;)

Whatever the case is, dogecoin is not dead. Even from a developing prespective, there are people who constantly work on improving it and interacting with the community.
