I absolutely agree with them.

This is the second charity in two days I've seen moving away from Bitcoin Core... The idea that these outrageous fees only run off small people is absolutely wrong.

Pale Moon announce they are dropping cryptocurrency as well.  https://forum.palemoon.org/viewtopic.php?t=17826

I expect we see a lot of services stop accepting Bitcoin Core in the very near future.

I mean I doubt they were getting much money in Bitcoin anyway, this was just a stunt to get in the news. And look, it worked out for them to get here -- any means nessecary to get more visibility and then in turn, more money.

These people must come to notice that the fee problem is MOSTLY because exchanges have ZERO clue how to estimate fees and pay outrageous amounts, lower fee amounts to get confirmed pretty quickly as well. It's not like you've got someone with a gun to your head saying to spend this amount on fees, waiting is also possible.

I really don't get it.

They were not raising much more money from Bitcoin anyway, and if they did, the fees that people needed to pay for sending money to them was insane, more than $35 just for donating some money, it is not even worth it.

The Bitcoin Core wallet itself can't even estimate fees properly and GROSSLY overcharges people.

My Bitcoin Core wallet gives the same estimate for 2 blocks and 7 days... it seems someone has figured out how to game the fees in Bitcoin in order trick the Core wallets fee estimator.

Literally... how stupid can you be?

Pineapple Fund is giving million dollar donations... you can see their transactions on the blockchain.

b...but muh lightning network is just round the corner you guise

Same with the new forums!  ::)

The fees are somehow very abysmal in the past weeks and you can't send tiny amount of transactions because it will not be worth it with the fee that you'll be paying. Though this will not entirely affect the whole Bitcoin community, it is quite disappointing the charities like this who uses the network with their large transaction will not utilize BTC anymore. I totally understand what they are saying and the fees that they'll pay to the network should have been gone to other projects/charities that will help people in real life. Hopefully, the problem that we have right now with the network will be addressed in the future. The effect of people not using BTC will not be felt immediately but it will be very detrimental in the coming months.

At a point, I expect things like this to happen because of the high transaction fees that we have come to witness and that would affect the inflow of resources coming to charity organization like the one Op is quoting but I still know that its not going to be permanent. It will pass if not go down completely, but largely to a bearable level which is all that matter and everything will be back to normal. The bitcoin core developers just need to do something rather than pushing the blame to someone else.

What do you agree to? From the reddit post: "However, given the present network failure, we're looking to convert some of our funds to Bitcoin Cash" They didn't say they'll no longer suppor Bitcoin Core,  and it seems to me that they're just gonna use Bcash for the time being.

And what does Pale Moon have to do with anything? they clearly said "cryptocurrencies of any kind" not just Bitcoin Core, and the Pale Moon guy is probably salty that someone donated $100 but once he converts it to fiat it'll be around $90 (just an example). Also, who cares about an insecure Firefox copycat?

The average transaction fee was $43 yesterday. (https://bitinfocharts.com/comparison/bitcoin-transactionfees.html)

It costs more to pay for an 8th than it costs for the actual pot.

What do you agree to?

That you'd have to be a fucking idiot to use or accept Bitcoin Core regardless of how much money you are trying to send.

I agree with them using Bitcoin Cash and asking for others to accept it.

No one would want to donate whiles the money being charged as fees itself can be even used to donate all over again,  but in spite of all that, the fees are gradually being reduced bit by bit.it will completely return to where it was a couple of months ago.

Why would you trust Bitcoin Core again if nothing changes even if the fees go down?

Ok, so if the fees go back down to 5 cents tomorrow... what is stopping it from being $43 per fee the next day?

This destroys the confidence in the market.

Something has to be changed because of this or we will see the trust/faith in Bitcoin Core drained in 2018.

Having the crypto sphere utilize Segwit for once will definitely help giving Bitcoin a boost, but the main K.O. shot has to come from Lightning Network. Segwit is all fine, but it won't do much other than taking a little bit of pressure off the network, which is why I am strongly hoping for LN to become fully operational before 2018, but that's something we can't be sure about unfortunately. I personally don't really have ever suffered from the higher fees, but this week I wanted to set up like twenty paper wallets containing a certain number of funds as present, but after thinking about the fees that are required for people to move these funds, I started to think that it perhaps isn't the right thing to give close friends and family a paper wallet with a certain number of funds. My plan was to load each paper wallet with 0.0025BTC, but that's slightly above the recent network fees, which is a bummer. I can't force anyone to hold these funds for the long term, because once given, they can do whatever they want with it.
