Title: Diversify or focus my mining?
Post by: fox22 on December 26, 2017, 03:48:16 AM
Hi. I have been hobby mining for the last 6 months but looking back I should have been more serious. lol. In any case, I started with 4x1070s and 1x1080ti, ROI + a bit of profit in 5 months so I decided to expand.

My goal is to mine and hold some coins with decent potential. Worked out for me in 2013 when I was mining LTC. Unfortunately I stopped in early 2014. :(

I am now running 6x1080ti and 3x1070 on an Asus B250 Mining Expert. I am mining ZCL right now with that rig. I also ordered an Antrminer S9 (Feb batch) on a bit of an impulse.

I also have another Asus B250 Mining Expert on order coming in. I am trying to figure out what I should do next as I think I will stop expanding for awhile after the next purchase of video cards. The options I am thinking of are:

1) Build a new rig with something like 6 to 8 RX Vega 56s to build up some ETH and/or Monero
2) Build a new rig with less expensive cards RX 570s
3) Just add a few more GPUs to my current rig and sell the extra motherboard.
4) ??

For those that want to suggest buying coins instead of mining, I have considered that and chose to do a bit of both.

Thanks

Why don't you try trading too?
With it you can just focus mining your preferred coin, minus the hassle of rummaging through different wallets or accounts.
Your diversified assets will stay in Tradings to make them ready in case of a dip or bubble.

It's best to focus in a single coin too if you're a solo miner, best for you and so much for the blockchain.

I am trying to do a bit of trading but I don't have a lot of time to spend on it usually so I am worried that I will make rash decisions when I am trying to get any research and trading done in my small sporadic pockets of time. Right now over the holiday break I am trying to get into it a bit more.

Mining requires attention but I feel I can control when I give it attention a little more.

I am also fairly paranoid about holding much on exchanges. Right now I use Bittrex for trading but I usually pull most of my coins back into my wallet.
