Telegram, the popular instant messaging app, is set to launch a Blockchain platform of its own called either “Telegram Open Network” (TON) or “The Open Network” according to a recent report from Coin Telegraph. Reports on the new Blockchain platform emerged when Anton Rozenberg shared a Facebook video advertising the new platform..

The platform has been envisioned as a route around oppressive governments, and a way to transact with other participants in a decentralized manner. Rozenberg also mentioned that it’s a way to alleviate state control as well..

The report mentioned that TON’s native currency will be called the “Gram.”. It will also be using light wallets in order to speed things up considering the fact that it’s based on a mobile platform..

Telegram is already popular with the cryptocurrency community and will most likely not have problems with advertising and user acquisition. Durov had insisted that Telegram would not be sold, no matter the price – not even an offer for 20 billion would make him jump..

This is great news ,blockchain is becoming viral and soon the hold world and the Government will have no option to accept the fact that blockchain is leading us to finical freedom.

I don't really, yet again, see a real-life usage for another one of these coins. It's just like the rest of the coins being that it has a good idea behind it now, or at least a wonderful platform (being telegram is amazing and I've used it many times) though I don't see how a coin would help at all in a messaging app.

I guess time will tell what the vision is.

is this true? if true, will there be a fund-raising like ICO? and bounty campaign ?, I am very impatient to follow him, I will continue to monitor this thread, thank you for the information

This would be something but at the same time I too am puzzled how you would monetize this coin other than pure speculation. I guess they will have to tell us in an official statement.

So again another altcoin? Everyone wants to make their own cryptocurrency without adding something special or new.

....oppressive governments...decentralized... always the same arguments. I don't know if the Blockchain could be used with communications but they should focus on this instead, it's their native business, not cryptocurrency

It is todays trend... we will have like coin for everything literally.  But when you look closer the are all trying to raise money for their ideas as we see with ICOs now, don't get me wrong it is great because they have opportunity to raise money and do things that they love and achive their goals. But its like if you put blockchain infront of your companies name your stocks will be worth more .... but as you say I don't see bigger point of everybody having their own coin really but thats the direction where we are headed.

I do believe that if they lunch their coin it will end up being an ICO and successful one since they have a lot of supporters around the globe. Lets see how and what they will implement hmm...

This concerns me. It’s like when a new CEO takes over a company and calls an all-hands meeting to say that “nothing will change; it will be business as usual.” Chances are that this is a premonition of upcoming changes lol.

And as others have said, introducing a new alternative currency isn’t great for the crypto world. If there is no value behind this new coin, then it’s just another spam/scam coin... the only way that I see this working is if the new “Gram” is used for in-app currency, which then means that Telegram will charge for more of its features.

Yup, telegram is a pretty big platform, but I’m hoping that this doesn’t end up becoming a move that causes them to shoot themselves in their own feet.

I personally use telegram quite a bit, so I’m curious to see what advances from this announcement, and I hope they’re not just creating a new coin for the sale of creating a new coin...

They are announcing they are going to use the blockchain for this new communication system in order to avoid censorship through decentralization but I have not read they are going to use some kind of token, so it seem they are only going to use the blockchain, so I do not think we are going to see another altcoin and even if that is the case, it will be an altcoin better than 90% of the altcoins because is being backed by a serious company.

But how are they going to develop it? are they just going to create their own tokens or what the fuck are they trying to implement?

Maybe it is a good idea.. But i dont agree at all.

If they want to implement some "credits" just like Skype or the other social media has, it would be a good idea.. but earning money from holding telegram tokens. uhmm i would never consider investing in there.

I am really excited about this, i saw this notice on Yahoo finances today, and i have to admit it, it really impressed me a lot, it is interesting to see how many companies and bussiness are trying to introduce themselves in this bussiness right now.

Maybe i am not right, but who knows? maybe in a few months or years everybody is going to have their bussiness on the blockchain.

There is  a great reason to believe this is scam. The link to the website https://investfeededge.com/telegram-hitting-blockchain-create-cryptocurrency/ (https://investfeededge.com/telegram-hitting-blockchain-create-cryptocurrency/) is not a reputable website and I believe if Telegram a giant social media would seek funds for further development or create its own coins, then it shoulddn't be this bucketshop website to annouce it.

They don't have to launch it publically like most altcoins are done or have a sale for the tokens.

They probably don't even need money from investors so an ico would not be required. It will depend on how the network and tokens are going to be used.

I think this is really a scam because if there's really a coin proper introduction must be made to officially introduce telegram coin another thing is that no adverisement coming from the site was mention. Investors must be wise becsuse surely many people will do their best to earn money thru crypro currencies

This is going to be huge. I love when big, globally known companies launch cryptos. It is a sign they atually know what they are doing and it will be succesfful. The are much more trustworthy - and by a long shot - than the majority of other ICOs (which are usually scams).

I will keep a close eye on this one. 8)
