Title: BEST WALLET??
Post by: Levieth02ng on December 27, 2017, 12:43:38 AM
Hi All,

unfortunatelly I lost almost all my cryptocurrencies, which I had in 2014, since I left them on exchanges.

Now, I only could access one exchange with 0.1 bitcoin, cash - goldcoin. Additionally, I have stille some ripple xrp coins. Now, I was wondering how to store them savely? If I download only the bitcoin wallet all the blocks are going to be donwloaded which is a lot of data.

Could anybody recommend me how to save the coins savely, I actually whould like to store different once. Since I also lost over 400 Dark/dashcoins, since I left them on an exchange....

thanks in advance

i recommend getting a hardware wallet. i find hardware wallets to be the most secured. I'd recommend investing in a ledger hardware; IMO. You can also go the paper wallet or electrum wallet route as well.

Since you have different kinds of coins unfortunately you also need to have different kinds of wallets for each specific coin.

Bitcoin: Electrum | https://electrum.org
Ripple: Toastwallet | https://toastwallet.com
Dash: https://www.dash.org/wallets/#wallets

You can also try out Exodus(multi coin wallet), but I don't think they currently support XRP: https://www.exodus.io

I suggest you for BTC the electrum wallet. I used it for a lot of time and I never had any problem.
You could even set the 2FA (but pay attention, because if you enable it you may find some difficulties for claiming hard forked coins).
Remember always to store in a safe place your seeds and private key :)

It's written many times here in this forum, the best wallets are these proposed by the developers because are tested by them.
Be careful with the web adresses of the wallets, you don;t want to chose a fake one...

Hardware wallets are the most secure, but also the most expensive. The top brands include: KeepKey, NanoLedger, and Trezor.  However, CoinBase/GDAX exchange personally insures all of your cryptocurrency if the exchange is hacked. They do this by storing 98% of the coins on the exchange in offline hardware. The downside to this, is that they only offer wallets for 4 coins.

Hardware wallets would be the way to go.
Coinomi on an old unused android phone, would also do the trick. If you don’t have the funds to invest in a hardware wallet. Do a factory reset first.
As long as you keep your seed safe. And don’t download any other apps or surf the internet on that phone,
You should be ok.

My ether wallet is another good option for collecting cryptocurrencies.
The foremost advice never share your private key to anyone & not check your coin every day.
There are lots of hackers online who may hack your account and don't save your key online to any pattern.

If you are storing bitcoins for a longer period then holding it in a cold wallet is preferable but if you intend to use it for immediate use then keeping it on an online exchange with a google 2FA on to secure it is more sufficient. The only downside is the exchange be hacked, which is near impossible nowadays.

"Best" is subjective. You have to decide what features are most important to you. Some things to consider: security, how easy/difficult it is to use it, availability of support staff, which coins/tokens it supports. I would also research exchanges you use in a similar fashion.

Coinomi is HD wallet-app only for Android and iOS devices. It has been around since 2014 and no wallet has ever been hacked or otherwise compromised, and no user has ever lost money with it due to a wallet's issue as far as I know.

Since you have different kinds of coins unfortunately you also need to have different kinds of wallets for each specific coin.

Bitcoin: Electrum | https://electrum.org
Ripple: Toastwallet | https://toastwallet.com
Dash: https://www.dash.org/wallets/#wallets

You can also try out Exodus(multi coin wallet), but I don't think they currently support XRP: https://www.exodus.io

I think it is less safe to store coins on a mobile phone because you get to connect to the internet everyday with your phone.

Storing coins on a PC should be relatively better, especially for those people who do not use PC often. For those who may only boot up their PC several times a year, it would be just like a cold storage.

I suggest Ledger Nano S or Trezor
you can buy the ledger Nano S directly from https://www.ledgerwallet.com
buy only from the official sites, to avoid scams
now there is a preorder available, take a look, the hardware wallet Nano S is extra secure way to store Your coins

myetherwallet is safe, but, it depends where you keep your private keys or the memonic phrase for your login
put them in a very safe place, the best way is to write (by hand) them down, not even print them

Regards.

no! do not buy Ledger or any wallet on ebay, amazon or similar, because you risk to get a hacked one
buy only from the main official dealer, the Nano S is available now on preorder, do just wait for the delivery, https://www.ledgerwallet.com/r/3c45

do not risk your crypto, remember, only official sites!

Here are quite a lot different wallets for different coins: https://freewallet.org/

You do not have any control at your private keys here, better use Jaxx
Jaxx also support lot of cryptos, and the best of all is that you have a full control of your private keys

sorry for your predicament. for ERC20 tokens, use myetherwallet. also you could try Exodus which i currently use, it has shapeshift which enables one to change from one coin to another, however, it currently supports coins such as BTC< ETH, funfair, Golem and some few other alts. Ultimately, ensure you store majority of your cryptoos in cold storage.

When you want to actively use it then online wallet where you can store just part as you need.

I personally use LEDGER WALLET NANO S for saving my bitcoins and altcoins, With this wallet, your private keys are stored offline, so you need not worry about the safety of your coins. Nano S is also the cheapest multi-currency hardware wallet The Ledger doesn’t come with an anti-tampering sticker as its cryptographic procedure checks for integrity of the instrument when powered on. it also support my etherwallet so you dont need to worry of your btc and altcoins.

f you are interested in buying and holding ripple, and are looking for a wallet, I highly recommend signing up at exarpy.com. It has an instantaneous transaction speed, does not keep a user database (so no hack potential), and has a flat fee of .01 XRP for transaction, whereas all other wallets charge a percentage, so if you're holding to sell all at once this is likely the cheapest way to go.

for what coin?

For example for Waves or Ethereum?

P.S.
Thanks for answering, here everybody are ignoring.

for ETH use Jaxx, you control the private keys

for Waves use their Official online Wallet: https://waveswallet.io or the app Waves Wallet featuring DEX (DEcentralized eXchange) now also available for Apple iOS devices

In a world of digital insecurity, paper wallets are the best admitting that the code has no bug.

I don't understand why paying for a ledger nano s or equivalent, for a certain cost, that is made by a company (you need to trust the company), and then go through different channels (possibility of alternating the source code), if you have a piece of paper that you can store out of digital world, where you can modify your private key numbers in you own way when you write it down that adds even more complexity to discover your real private key and is in my opinion more secure that any other digital device until someone invents the tool to read in my brain :)

Invest in a hardware wallet if you want to keep any considerable amount of cryptocurrency. I like Ledger Nano S and Trezor, Ledger is more versatile when it comes to the number of supported currencies.

Coinomi is a multi-asset wallet that supports every cryptocurrency and token you can dream of.  Using ShapeShift, they allow easy exchanges between any of the supported assets from within the interface. No identity-linking, no IP or transaction tracking, and your IP is even filtered through their servers for added anonymity. Its easy to verify security with their open source ecosystem.

Well I would recommend using official wallets of the coins
as for Ripple you can use gatehub

I have used it before and I am satisfied with their services, even tho I was unhappy because you have to store at least some XRP coins in the wallet so the wallet can work with all it's functions.

But for most of the coins I use the official wallet from the official BitcoinTalk Announcement.

give it a try

I would say metamask or myetherwallet for ethereum, but apparently they got hacked last week? I didn't have the time to get the full story.

Try to save your password in multy environment, not all passwords in the same place.

For bitcoins, I use coinbase and bittrex, I think coinbase is pretty safe, but again they closed numbers of unverified account, so my tips is: never all your bag in the same place. If you've a lot of money, I think a physical wallet like edger nano will be your best choice to save your investment.

You mentioned that you have bch, and btc, and some ripple, so just go to Ledger website and buy one, it is not more than $70 at the moment, and you will have all your cryptos protected in there forever, since hardware wallets are almost unhackeable.

I have a Ledger Nano S which probably has been mentioned in this thread already. I like it as it is small and transportable. It stores the private keys to the cryptos that you purchased and since it detaches from your computer, it is essentially unhackable. There is a 6 digit passcode to open the device.

Is it a question of security?

I also heard about the commission if you send ETH from one MyEtherWallet to another. Is it truth? Because I heard Freewallet doesn't have a commission.

I've found out the hard way regarding security. So I follow some staple sucurity measures know. I store all my coins on multiple hard wear wallets and I also have the private keys written down stored safe. I think for online wallets you are taking a risk but there are a few with less cases of hacks than others. I like my ether wallet. I used to use exodus but the recent hack scared me.

Hardware wallet are the best wallets. They are the most secure way to store your coins. Trezor and Ledger are two that I know of that are good. Once you have more than a few hundred dollars into cryptocurrencies you should invest into buying a hardware wallet.

Title: Re: BEST WALLET??
Post by: Dudeperfect on March 04, 2018, 05:42:14 PM
Bitcoin is stored on the network and to use the same Bitcoin you need a private key of the corresponding address. Thus it is recommended hold Bitcoins in offline wallets such as securely generated paper wallet or reputed hardware wallets like Trezor. Even if you're taking all the security precautions on the exchange or wallet, you never know what kind of security precautions are being taken on the server side so holding anything online has a risk. So I believe that offline wallets are best in terms of of security.

Morph is extremely secure and has extra security gates that other wallets (such as Ledger nano S) do not have like trusted devices, 2 Factor authentication and automatic key backups so you can never lose your funds. It also is able to store a ton of other coins so you can see all of your funds and spending from one app. We are also available on Android, IPhone and desktop so you can track funds from all of your devices.

Nothing more secured and safer to use hard wallet like ledger nano or trezors. with this kind of Crypto wallet it to hard for hackers to take all your hard earned coins/token from you.. Coinbase is an exchange platform for buying/selling Bitcoin, not really a wallet. You can store your Bitcoins there but it's not recommended. You definitely cannot mine anything with Coinbase. As for the ID verification, this is required. Coinbase is basically a bank so you'll need proper ID to open an account with them.

Yes we have and that depends on how you are looking to that wallet. If it works perfectly for you and didn't gave you any headache that can be the best wallet.

We have our own way of keeping our crypto's, some that doesn't have capacity to avail hardware wallet will stick to desktop wallet or paper wallets and that can be the best for them. I agree with what you said its on how we keep our details but its also good to have one trusted wallet.

I recommend to use Ledger Nano S
If some coin dont have presence on hardware wallet use wallet provided by dev team from main site coin. Web wallets and having coins on exchange is not good way to storage coins.

Almost anything else you will do will be so much better than you did before.
Use online wallets, use software wallets, even use mobile wallets (but this is worst option from this three) that will be better.

I recommend online or software wallets, keep your private keys always this will guarantee you success and recovery of old coins.

I'll recommend hardware wallets like: Trezor, Ledger, Keepkey or make it by yourself on your USB.

I like keeping coins on a desktop wallet pre-saving it on a flash drive.

If the plan is so save the coins for long period the i would say the best option is a paper wallet. To make a paper wallet could be really easy with vanity gen, you onlt need the addy and the private key, then you can print it or save it inside a file.txt then put that file inside a zip and add it password.

Remember to download the software and create your own addys, if you use a online service for this then you will risk your coins by compromising your secret key with the server.

The current firmware on Ledger’s Homepage is still version 1.4.2. The new firmware, v 1.5, will be available very soon (see  ledger-nano-s-firmware-update-to-be-released-early-january-2019 (https://www.ledger.fr/2018/12/19/ledger-nano-s-firmware-update-to-be-released-early-january-2019)), and it brings a few interesting features:

-   New cryptographic algorithms (to support more crypto-assets), which bring along new hashes, signatures and derivation schemes.

-   Security enhancements (MCU genuine check to attest firmware – likely related to what wallet.fail presented in the 35c3 conference, modified pin code implementation to make it more resilient to hacks, arithmetic arquitecture redesign).

-   WebUSB, enabling the creation of apps similar to Ledger Live on any compatible browser.

-   Fixed a bug in application management to recover free space properly.

What’s even more interesting is that Ledger Nano X, the new enhanced version, is now available in pre-order, and will be available during March 2019 (see  Ledger Unveils New Nano X Hardware Wallet at CES 2019 (https://www.ledger.fr/2019/01/07/ledger-unveils-new-nano-x-hardware-wallet-at-ces-2019/) and Ledger Nano X (https://www.ledger.com/products/ledger-nano-x)), bringing amongst other features:

-   Bluetooth enabled capability (easier integration with mobile devices).
-   Greater capacity (up to 100 apps).
-   Larger screen.
-   Enhanced hardware (that seems to now cover the MCU).

We’ll have to see it in action. Interesting, but personally not (yet) to keen on Bluetooth communication with the device.

No best wallets out there, but so far I have no issues with these:
1) Exodus desktop wallet. Nice themes and portfolio management.
2) MyEtherWallet online mainly for your ERC tokens
3) Ledger as a physical wallet. Expensive and coin support is limited but that's the safest way to store your funds.

Well since you have lost your bitcoin early as a result of leaving them unsecured on an exchange.

It would be best to have your bitcoin that you don't want to exchange immediately kept in a bitcoin wallet

I like Myetherwallet for ETH and ERC20 tokens. Very popular, fast and simple  ;D. But you must afraid fishing sites, join only from browser bookmark.
Lol you cannot store bitcoin in MEW wallet, because MyEthereumWallet is for erc20 based tokens/coins only  and not for the number cryptocurrency Bitcoin

I recommend OP must not use exchanges for storing hes cryptocurrencies because this is prone to hacking and stealing

Hello all, I recommend Bitberry mobile wallet. On the Bitberry wallet, users can easily sign up via their Google accounts without any need to store private keys.

The best wallet hardware wallet. Hardware wallet is a good choice if you' re serious about security and convenient, reliable bitcoin and crypto storage. The three most popular best hardware wallet is, Ledger Nano S, TREZOR, KeepKey. Hardware wallet many safety hackers can't be stolen it can be protected with a pin code. Hardware wallet keeps private keys separate from vulnerable, internet connected devices.
