Title: Help with RX580 Graphics Card choice 8pin or 8+6pin
Post by: dcjim1 on December 27, 2017, 05:29:31 PM
Guys, got a general question regarding RX580 varieties.

Is it better to cryptomine RX580 cards with 8+6pin power input ? or get the ones with only 8pin power input? I see sometimes the same brand offer both varieties.

TTheoretically 8pin would draw 150W max and 75W from 6pin cable. The riser board also need 75W to feed the graphics card thru PCIe slot. Would 8+6 ease the power load from the risers?

Can anybody explain how all this is supposed to work together?

8 + 6 is a nightmare to power in a multi-card rig compared to just 8-pin, and you're not going to push any Polaris card hard enough to NEED more than an 8-pin when mining.

8 + 6 will NOT ease the power load from the risers - the intent is to allow massive overclocking by gamers.

some card work if only 8-pin is connected (Sapphire RX 570 Nitro+ 8GB), then it's ok. Others don't (MSI GTX 1080 Armour). That's what I personally know of.

Less connectors is always better!
