Title: Electrum and minimum transaction fee
Post by: Croal on December 27, 2017, 08:26:02 PM
Hello everyone,

I have 0.42607 mBTC on an Electrum wallet and I would like to transfer this amount. But when I fill out the form, even if I indicate a minimum fee, it doesn't want to go below 0.42607 mBTC (2.21911 mBTC/kB), which means that I can't transfer Bitcoins, so my money is unusable.

That is why I wonder about the minimum fee imposed by Electrum.

Thank you in advance for your answers,

Croal

0.42607 mBTC = 0.00042607 BTC

Currently, recommended fees are in the 600+ sats/byte type range... a "typical" transaction with 1 input and 2 outputs is 226 bytes... this results in a fee of 135,600 sats. If you want to spend less, try going to "Tools - Preferences" and tick the "Edit fee manually" box... this will allow you to specify the fee you want to use.

WARNING: if you set your fee too low, you could end up with a stuck transaction... make sure you understand the risks and calculate your fee appropriately. Recommended fees here: https://bitcoinfees.earn.com and here https://btc.com/stats/unconfirmed-tx

Thank you for your answer.

I finally made the transaction with a 0.0576 mBTC fee (0.3 mBTC/kB), so the amount sent is 0.36847 mBTC. The "Bitcoin Fees for Transaction" site (https://bitcoinfees.earn.com/) indicated a delay between 30 to 1200 minutes, but the transaction seems to be stuck now.

Here is my transaction ID : e6be946adc9cd61cee97a4a081563c6f073c32ab54745eae832dcc6ef968b6d6 .

Should I wait any longer or is there something to do ?

Looks like you aimed low and missed :P I did put the "WARNING" in for a reason. You appear to have ignored that and sent a 30 sats/byte transaction when fees are like 600+ ::)

Your options are:

- Wait
- Try an accelerator
- Try RBF
- Try a double spend

In fact I managed to change the fee before you answered me on the forum  :-X and I didn't realize my mistake until later.
I've tried to use an accelerator : http://confirmtx.com/ .

How does double-spending work ? How to do it with Electrum ?

I am not sure how a double spend works because the moment you spend whether confirmed or not, it leaves your wallet the only way its still pending on Electrum is if you didn't check the box that makes the fee final, if that is the case, then you can spend the amount again but this time with higher fee then make it final. But the moment you do that, there is nothing you can do about it any longer than trying to use accelerator after you have paid the right fee, then all you do is wait and wait.

I've tried to use an accelerator : http://confirmtx.com/ .

This accelerator doesn't work unfortunately.
The only one working at the moment is viaBTC (https://pool.viabtc.com/tools/txaccelerator/ (https://pool.viabtc.com/tools/txaccelerator/)), but there are only 100 spots per hour. You need to submit your TX within the first second(s) to get it accelerated.

If you had your fee marked as 'replacable' you can do Replace-by-Fee. Basically just setting a new (higher) fee for the same transaction.
You can find out wheter you have RBF activated by right-clicking on the unconfirmed transaction. If you can click on 'Increase fee', its activated and you can easily
increase it by clicking on it.

This is the easier way of getting your transaction unstuck. But if you don't have RBF activated you can perform a double-spending.
Here is a guide for electrum: https://steemit.com/bitcoin/@profitgenerator/tutorial-how-to-fix-unconfirmed-transactions (https://steemit.com/bitcoin/@profitgenerator/tutorial-how-to-fix-unconfirmed-transactions)

You may activate RBF for your future transactions: Tools -> Preferences -> Fees -> Enable Replace-by-Fee. And tick 'Replacable' when sending a TX.

Thank you for your answers.
Unfortunately I didn't enable RBF so I won't be able to increase the fee. I'll try to use the accelerator solution.
