Title: Can't open Electrum
Post by: iluvbitcoins on December 28, 2017, 05:04:11 PM
I can't open Electrum at all, I used it with no problem previously
Recently, I double click it, it doesn't open
I've tried installing the new version and the standalone, but nothing happens

Anyone having the same problem?

No, it's just on your side (I can open it without an issue). Did you do any changes to your firewall recently or perhaps install a new program (that could possibly intervene)?

Which OS and what specific version are you attempting to open. "Help, it doesn't work" isn't particularly informative :P

Windows 10 64 bit
i7 5500U
16 GB RAM
Electrum-3.0.3 as I wrote, just reinstalled the new version after I realized it didn't work.
Reinstallation didn't help though.

I upgraded to 3.0.3 recently on Win 10 64bit with no problems so I can confirm it should work. It's not that easy to diagnose when Windows just doesn't run something and doesn't give an error message.

It *could* be a permissions error... Windows10 has some "odd" quirks where it won't let you write to certain locations without admin rights... but it doesn't trigger the UAC (User Access Control) to try and get the permission.

Try downloading the 3.0.3 Portable version, put it on a USB stick and run it from there... see if it works. If that does, and the installed version doesn't, then I suspect that for whatever reason the installed (and/or standalone) version is unable to create/read/write to the Electrum datadir or one of the files/folder in that directory... %AppData%\Electrum

Delete all the files in your data directory except the ones in the wallets subdirectory. The data directory is one level up from your wallets directory: http://docs.electrum.org/en/latest/faq.html#where-is-my-wallet-file-located

Then run electrum again and hopefully it'll start now.

This worked, thank you!

Note that I also deleted ElectronCash folders.

It is working now :)

I already added the folder to my AV and firewall exceptions list but it didn't help
Abdussamads solution solved the problem :)
