Post by: rafter_01 on December 29, 2017, 12:10:09 AM
Hi,

I cannot find the wallet file .DAT as my laptop has been wiped. I only have my pwd and wallet ID

Annoyed.

You need to have the wallet file or private keys to get back those tokens. Password and wallet ID won't help.
How was you laptop wiped, there are ways to get back wiped files.

I have the private key and password.

How do I restore my Doge?

Depends on your client. Most of them have a Import option.
For dogecoin core,
Quote
Click on Help > Debug Menu > Console
enter "walletpassphrase [your passphrase] 120"
enter "importprivkey "[private key]"

Refer to this http://dogepaper.info/redeem/core.html

if you have a backup of wallet password and id data you can rediscover your coins. but if you do not have data backup you can not find and you have to create new walllet and let your coin disappear.

Not sure what you mean by "wiped". Was it wiped using a proper wiping program or just formatted?

If it was just formatted, you can immediately download Piriform Recuva to try to recover the files. If possible, download Recuva on another PC and then copy it to thumbdrive so you can run it on your laptop. This will prevent any more overwriting of data on your hard disk if there is recoverable data.

Hope that helps.

Do you have this hard drive with which data was deleted? Or did you destroy it?

lost data can be restored using utilities

It was destroyed. Don't ask why it was a long story. Completely forgot I had DAT to backup I just assumed the key and password would be fine.

Well without a wallet.dat or your private key you won't be able to restore and you're out luck :(

I've got my private key but not the dat file.

What's the length of a private key? Want to make sure I'm correct

It's a 51 character string.
Import your key into a new wallet and you will have your coins back.

Using multidoge when I create a new wallet and import key its looking for a key file. I have only the key itself but not a file. I tried creating a key file from notepad but no joy.

I have no idea about multidoge I have never used it, but I would just import the key with the regular wallet.
Go to console , type: importprivkey xxxxxxxxxx     , where xxxxx is your privatekey.

Which regular wallet?

Also just counted the characters of my key and its over 80 characters. Confused

I hope you save your wallet file .DAT because if you don't save it, then you cannot recover your coin even if you have your password and your ID. but I don't have this experience and I think if I read from other people say, I think you can recover it back and you can try one by one solution from them.

This is worrying for me. Is there a way? Is the private key normally  80 characters plus?

If you have a private key, you don't have to worry about it. You can recover all the tokens and just keep the private keys.

Do you happen to have a "cloud" backup set to auto? If so, look there.
All my crap gets auto saved to Google Drive for just that reason.

a dogecoin private key must start with 6 or q , does yours?

Nope. Long key with other 80 characters starting with 9lkem.

It depends on which wallet you are using, but mostly you need the .dat to get your tokens.
