Something's off though. It shows that difficulty is still rising, but it also shows that the network hash rate is dropping. Along with this, it also claims the pool's hash rate is higher than that of the entire network.

Comparing hash rate of things like LTC (converted to BTC) to that of GRW, you'd be looking at 250 BTM (0.250 BTC) per 1000 GRW minimum. Otherwise it's more profitable to just mine LTC and trade it in for BTC still.

the fair price will not be know until it hits the exchanges. Some people got in early and mined a lot, they will want to dump some of it as always.
after it's been on some exchanges for a week, then is a good time to evaluate it's price.

people were selling 1k for 1ltc so you can see there was a lot grabbed in the first few hours. The first blocks should have had a very small reward and i dont just mean the first 40.

Watch out for a clone of this with incremental block reward at the start, and a far longer launch announcement.

this can mean 1 or 2 things. the client has forked due to the magnitude of the hashrate, or someone timetravelled to solve a block and went offline before the network saw the timestamp(highly unlikely but possible)

first of all that would require all coins not to move from anyones' wallet for a WHOLE YEAR - very unlikely.  ONLY true savers would receive that whole interest rate. The Crisis with this coin that I have is that the block rate is so FAST and seems to be being hashed at incredible rates by (seemingly) chinese with HUGE HASH RATES like the top 10 guys on the pools have 56Kh/s to 14Kh/s  that I just can't compete with, as well as other pools in china cranking it out, so SOLO mining is already out of the water now that difficulty is bouncing up against 1,000,000.

perhaps you prefer philosopherstones with a lower rate of block generation  check it out slower block generation, 50% annual interest to POS stakes.

No biggie this and philostoned can both hide out for a bit and get some new devs later on

The problem is this coin brought nothing new to the table. It had a decent website and such, but I was in the hopes that the developer had plans for it. No coin will go anywhere without a community backing, and that starts with a dev who actually cares.

I think it does add something new.. a hyperinflationary POS coin... there is some value in that to at least see what happens.

Really no need for a developer per say, look at the old coins that have been resurrected, people who mined those for year+ did very very well.

that said we need the hash on this to drop to about 1/10 - 1/100 of where it is now  ;D

On one exchange there is exactly 0.0 BTC of buy orders and on the other the highest buy order is for less than 4 GRW and at a price of 0.000035 BTC/GRW, which is only slightly better than my offer.

So yes, they should feel free to explore those options first. I'm just looking for some coins if people are looking to sell them.

There are 1.8+ million coins in circulation, there are ~180,000 new coins each day, and you can currently mine 2,500 GRW per day at 1MH/s. I'm offering you 1.25 LTC for that, which is more than you would get mining LTC.

Let's look at just the past 30m... there were over 1 BTC worth of buy orders at .035-.036/1000. At a rate of 0.025 BTC per LTC, that would put 2000 GWC (0.070-0.072 BTC) at 2.8-3 LTC. Or people could hold out a little longer and get more than that. I'm not sure how 180%-200% more is somehow "slightly more" but if that's seriously how you view things, send me $2800 and I'll return $1000. Look at it as being a nice gesture, considering $2800 is only "slightly more" than $1000...

That or maybe you need help with math. Might I suggest using a calculator next time? I have the feeling you've been losing a LOT of money due to your failed mathematics.

Got it after upgrading the client, but am now getting it even if I blow everything away and use the old one with a backup of my wallet.dat

For POS do you have to keep your client operating 24/7? What if you miss a day? Do you lose 1 day worth of POS rewards?

If you were to close the coin client to say, play a game or do college classes would you lose the POS?

you don't have to keep your client up. The pos will be mined once you have the client up, it will calculate the coin-days you have, nothing is lost.

It's based on coin-days, which are based on when the coins were sent to a client. For example, if I sent you 365 coins today and you never even had a client to sync and see that you had them, but you then opened it in 10 days, you would have 10 coin years (365 coins * 10 days) you could collect interest on. If you waited 100 days you'd have 100 coin years you could collect on.

So really it doesn't matter how long you wait before you open your client/leave it running, so long as the maximum PoS coin interest hasn't been accrued by the entire network yet (which, IIRC, will take many years).

I am no longer receiving the POS interest - I received some on Aug 29 but nothing at the end of Sep. None of my settings have changed and my wallet is unlocked.

To be honest, I am starting to think this coin was just a scam all along. The dev has disappeared and there is absolutely 0 volume on the 2 exchanges that it trades on.

Something is definitely not right.  I have received 0 pos and it's been just over 1 week since the time frame it should have kicked in.

The wallet is keeping by CPU 100% busy for days on end... and nothing to show for it.
Almost time to pull the plug on the wallet.  >:(

You don't get how PoS works... it's random. My first YAC PoS didn't land until a few months after it started trying to mint one.

You don't lose anything, though (other than compound interest). Interest is based on the number of coin days destroyed. So, for example:

You have 365 coins for a day and mint a block. You are rewarded 1 coin.
You have 365 coins for a week before minting a block. You are rewarded 7 coins.
You have 365 coins for a month before minting a block. You are rewarded 30-31 coins.
You have 365 coins for a year before minting a block. You are rewarded 365 coins.
You have X coins for Y period before minting a block. You are rewarded (x*y)/365 coins.

You *can* start minting them after like 5 days with GRW. That simply means it's when it becomes available. You could mint it in exactly 5 days or it could take many years.

Edit: FWIW, I've had MANY PoS blocks minted with GRW already, with the last being a week or so ago.

What concerns me is that I have been holding on to a sizable amount of GRW, as I do other POS based coins.
Over time, with coin-age, some of those coins are pulled into the stake category to 'try' and generate stake.

We're OK there.

What I do not see -- after several weeks, are ANY coins selected and moved into the Stake category to try and generate.
Yet, the client is 100% busy.

Though it clearly states that coins will be selected and start working to generate stake about 5-9 days after.
So am I to believe Growth coin works differently that all other POS coins... Scrypt and SHA?

I just compiled and synced this coin. Looks like it has suffered the same fate as many other coins recently - a block with a timestamp LOWER than the previous block (instead of the expected higher) causes the retarget calculation to go off with the fairies, which means further mining is impossible.

Looks like the last proof-of-work block was successfully mined about 5 1/2 days ago. There don't seem to be any proof-of-stake blocks at all (??? even though the thread title says it's a PoW/PoS coin ???), which would normally continue to be minted even after PoW has failed, so the network has effectively ground to a halt.

Dev will need to fix.

Here's what happens when PoW mining is stalled. cgminer reports that it finds a block, but the client quietly ignores it (sometimes rejecting it), and the block is never propagated through the network.

Yeah, could someone at least fix the wallet. :-\ For starters.

The fix for retargeting is simple (one extra line of code to check for negative time difference) but it will create a hard fork, so it requires everyone to adopt it, including exchanges and shops.

Right now, I think only CoinEX has this coin listed, I haven't seen any pools, lately.

Then creating a hard-fork should be easy. We only need to inform CoinEx. Create new pools to run the new client. The old pools will just be stuck on a broken blockchain anyways. I vote that we take over the coin and revive it. The dev is long gone.

its an obvious place for people interested in the idea of GRW to check out.

Add to that some historic interest, a philosophy and an innovating dev and it's actually a viable project.

Update. I've managed to successfully begin mining and extend the chain again. This is local only: still have to see if the network will accept my (small) fork when I remove the firewalling and allow my client to reconnect globally. The trust level on my chain is higher but it still may be rejected by the network.

What problems are you having mining? Your client should be showing a block count of at least 302584 - if it's lower, try deleting the blockchain (stop client, delete blk0001.dat, blkindex.dat and the entire contents of the database directory, restart client)

Yes, there's been another major negative retarget which has broken the network again.

I've just dropped you a PM lol and you had replied here that was fast , the dev is long gone so I don't think he'd ever return to release an update and believe it was high time long time ago he did, yup everyone who's interested on GRW will need to update since already the network is stalled by the previous client , no mining , no sending or receiving , no confirmation of blocks , we've done some code updates to prevent negative Retargets in the future as per suggested almightyruler , he is credited for the same as well as getting mining fixed temporarily earlier and suggested and also predicted that the network will stall again if a proper update is not released as well as adopted.

I come at home right now, so I will now go to compile the daemon for the pool and hope to have it up as soon as possible..

In this case it's a pretty easy decision since anyone running the official client will not be able to mine, and because the network was not producing PoS blocks (after PoW stalled) transactions are also broken. The only thing you can do with the official client is connect to other peers and sync... you cannot mine, send, or receive.

Sounds like the changes are fairly minor so I'm sure if the original dev ever returned he would be happy to incorporate them into an official version.

The download of the transaction db into the server is taking very long time (actually is 30%, not depending from server network that is 1Gb/s) so I cannot know if it will finish until I go to bed. Sorry.

this coin was quite large at one point... had 3GH on it once... by todays terms that is probably like having 60GH i never knew why it died

I've just updated to the new client, synced fine. Nice to see people able to mine again.

I notice the network is now generating proof-of-stake blocks again. From a quick hunt around the chain it looks like prior to today the last PoS block generated was over 5 months ago.

Latest MPOS had some typo in payout routine. Now I made a synch with the latest source to fix.

Good staking coin on two exchanges.  A few people associated with it that know about coding but attempt for a wallet upgrade was too ambitious and not sure if anything is happening behind the scenes. 

It would be nice if someone could put some sell orders closer to buy orders as they're over 2x as much.
