BitcoinSpread
Launched 29 July 2014, 9:00 UTC, No Premine
Website (https://bitcoinspread.org)
Reddit (http://www.reddit.com/r/Spreadcoin/) | Twitter (https://twitter.com/BitcoinSpread)

Completely Decentralized Digital Currency
without Pools

We are officially forking off SpreadCoin (http://www.spreadcoin.info/index.php) on 31 January 2018, 00:00 UTC
Exact block number to be confirmed at a later date!

All existing SpreadCoin (SPR) holders will get 1:1 fork of the coin on the new chain.

The development of SpreadCoin is dead, this fork aims to revive it.

BitcoinSpread is a new cryptocurrency which is more decentralized than Bitcoin.
It prevents centralization of hashing power in pools, which is one of the main concerns of Bitcoin security. SpreadCoin was fairly launched with no premine.

Pool Prevention
To prevent pools each block must be signed with the private key which correspondents to the coinbase transaction. See whitepaper (https://bitcoinspread.org/SpreadCoin-WhitePaper.pdf) for more details.

Parameters
  • Algorithm: SpreadX11
  • Block generation: 1 minute
  • Difficulty retargets: every block based on last 360 blocks
  • Reward starts at approx. 6.66 coins per block
  • Block reward is smoothly halved every 4 years
  • Total supply: 20 mln coins
  • No year 2106 problem
Initial reward was 66.66 coins per block and spacing between blocks was 10 minutes, this was changed after hardfork at block 2200.

Truly Decentralized
In Bitcoin mining power is concentrated in large pools. This puts the whole network at risk in case these pools will become malicious or if their security will be compromised. In SpreadCoin there are no pools, mining power is spread around many solo miners.

Compact Transactions
SpreadCoin uses more compact representation for signatures in transactions. This leads to smaller transactions and, hence, smaller blockchain. See e.g. this transaction (http://spreadcoin.net/explorer/737d7d5ae5e857ce2d53c75a724309f0a6e8abb7478cf2cb33a11eb20ff798aa) in SpreadCoin and similar transaction (https://blockchain.info/tx/451a18ff44876259ddfb28436517d33e8ae5f56f10b3e6868ee1461715898c14) in Bitcoin, both transactions have 15 inputs and 1 output but SpreadCoin transaction takes 1661 bytes while Bitcoin one takes 2744.
See this thread for more info: https://bitcointalk.org/?topic=6430.0%29%3F

Smooth Reward Decrease
Unlike Bitcoin, there are no abrupt reward halvings in SpreadCoin. Block reward is smoothly decreasing over time.

https://raw.githubusercontent.com/spreadcoin-project/spreadcoin.net/gh-pages/img/reward.png

Mining
You can mine directly from the wallet, just go to the mining tab and press 'Start mining', you will start mine to your wallet. Thread about mining SpreadCoin: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=869289

Also you can mine to a specific address (this is useful if you are mining on several computers). To do so:
1. Use existing or better generate a new address.
2. Open debug console (Tools -> Debug Console) and enter:
Quote
dumpprivkey SYourSpreadCoinAddress
3. You will get your private key. Then open spreadcoin.conf or create it if it doesn't exist (D:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\SpreadCoin\spreadcoin.conf on Windows) and add the following line:
Quote
miningprivkey=YourPrivateKey
4. Restart your wallet if it was running.
In the Mining tab you will now see notification that all mined coins will go to this address.

Mining Guide
Windows: https://github.com/spreadcoin-project/SpreadCoin-Wiki/wiki/Mining-Guide
By default you can mine only from 4 machines to the same wallet, to increase this limit set rpcthreads to value greater than 4 in spreadcoin.conf.

AMD GPU Miner
Windows binary: http://spreadcoin.net/files/Spread-GPU-miner.7z
Source code: https://github.com/spreadcoin-project/spreadcoinx11-sgminer

Don't forget to read included readme, it describes how to launch it. Even if you did solo-mining before it is still worth reading.

You need latest drivers to use this miner. Known to work on 14.9 installed from file named amd-catalyst-14-9-win7-win8.1-64bit-dd-ccc-whql.exe from http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/desktop?os=Windows%207%20-%2064

Nvidia GPU Miner
And here's a GPU miner for the NVIDIA crew. Compute 3.0 support should be easy enough, but for now it's 3.5/5.0/5.2 only.

Bitcoin Spread.  Has nothing to do with Bitcoin, but you're throwing the name in there for marketing and a quick pump?

How is it even Bitcoin?  Are you forking the BTC chain, too?  Seems like a retarded cash grab.

Shameful. Another "fork" of BTC to make money...

There have been a couple of very large purchases before the project started, something inexplicable when we didn't know about this project. So either the developers have economic reasons or there have been insider trading. Not good anyways.

It is kinda sad that topic starter hasn't provided us with full information and explanation. But nevertheless may be it is the plan... or it is just an official post..like just to check the box you know....before the main promo and announcements are made.
Who give up this post gonna board the train with x2-3 price lol

It is sad that topicstarter starts his coin journey with silence.
For sure, we everybody know that you are working hard with inspecting code and so on..
But still community support is one of the most important goals in coin success.
There is silence in twitter also. What is going on?
It is common speaked phrase in my country - say "A"? - say "B"

I made a video about this situation:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IcRY4aEBHe0

At the very least it shows the power of the Bitcoin name/brand.
Are dead altcoins going to start forking and re-branding themselves with the Bitcoin name? Bspread says they are about to do this. If this actually happens and it is successful we could see a lot of copycats. This is a pure marketing move that leverages the strong Bitcoin brand. It will be interesting to see how this plays out. It is yet another reminder of the strength and value of the Bitcoin brand. There is only one Bitcoin and many entities want a piece of that pie so they can have a base of value for their product.

There won't be masternodes. The technology is not there to create masternodes on the SpreadCoin chain. (BitcoinSpread is a fork of SpreadCoin, not Bitcoin)
The masternodes are available only in testnet and it has never been on the main net, they are still not ready for mass adaptation.

The only way to make masternodes work on a SPR chain is to put serious amount of time into the development. I can guarantee for you, a developer who announced this project and can not even log back to organise the community won't put months of coding into this 'project'.

What are the major advantages of this hard fork if comparing to Bitcoin Diamond or Bitcoin Segwit2x??

You can't really compare it to any Bitcoin fork as this one is not a Bitcoin fork. This will be (if goes ahead) a SpreadCoin fork, nothing to do with Bitcoin. It has Bitcoin in it's name for marketing purposes only.

Yep for sure everybody understand it not not bitcoin fork, it is spreadcoin fork...there are kinda silly people who think it is bitcoin fork just because of the name...
Speaking about masternodes there is very juicy GUI picture :)
https://image.prntscr.com/image/jjCNqFNGRVqLTHInQMn2CQ.png

So I don't know if it is really hard to implement masternodes at current development stage..but still...I am just speaking about the fact that high ROI masternodes is one the BEST advantages possible to quick rise now!
I have seen this at gobyte, sparks, galactrum....it is like a trend nowadays so I just suggest to devs to use it :)

Also it would be great if the coin would be mine-able with Antminer D3 ASICS generated so low profit mine with Dash...
I don't know if X11 and SpreadX11 are the same...but it would be great...because D3 are disaster haha))

And for sure I fully support you with bad communication form devs, it's very absurdly...

How long will you take to realize that there will be no hard fork and that this has only been to pump SPR?

Forking SPR?

Why? What valid reasoning would ANYONE have to do that except for a quick way to get coins in?

I'll watch, even though it seems that is just a play at making SPR somewhat marketable again.

Leave it be - as there is no other MrSpread and never will be.

that shows masternodes on the testnet. there was a comment earlier in this thread about there not being masternodes on the mainnet. can anyone from the spread team confirm or deny whether or not there will be masternodes on the upcoming SPR fork? that detail would determine whether or not the new SPR will have any real value other than a marketing ploy by hijacking the bitcoin brand.

So basically you are going to copy the SpreadCoin repo and create a new coin without changing anything? It looks better, this new fork, very interesting, i'm really waiting for this to finish quickly and develop well.

Vanitygen?

Doesn't georgem have the exclusive closed code source?

Yet you publish the wallet that georgem published with this useless (and security risky) addition to the wallet?

OK - I think that has confirmed what I and hence CWI, will do here on in.

That is quiet obvious this is just an endgame of a large SPR bag holder. The fork is a pump attempt. No point to wait for any kind of answer here, the 'dev' not even active and haven't even logged in since posting the ANN.

Quote
miningprivkey=YourPrivateKey
