Title: Very low difficulty coins?
Post by: rmhuntley on August 03, 2013, 03:49:00 AM
I"m looking for recommendations on coins to mine that have a very low diff.  I know that IFC have an insanely low diff, but I"m looking for other options for myself to mine. the coin doesn't need to be profitable, but some sort of trading  value would be cool.   I'm working w/ a combined 200kh/s, roughly.

Pre Aug 1 I would have said Goldcoin 100% (just hit the 45k block which reduced the reward significantly - however the difficulty is still quite low so you'll make out pretty well), but today I would say Worldcoin, Digitalcoin & Goldcoin.

Litecoin and Feathercoin are favorites, but they are pretty well mined out for beginners.

[Maybe Megacoin as well? Don't know anything about it, just going from http://www.coinchoose.com/ .. There are plenty of alt coins out there and I'm sure they all have some bit of merit, but quite a few of them are also.. meh. Can't really take them seriously and don't see them as something w/ long term potential.]

Also check out primecoin. As it's cpu based you can mine it along w/ whatever you gpu mine. Still fairly early in the game as well.

You could mine HoboNickles(HBN), still new, but getting traction. Diff is .2+ most of the time. Plus nice POS.

I pay 2c per HBN, I also run a charity drive(see sig) and there is an auction for cool t-shirt https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=267042.0

With 200kh/s you would get around 75 a day.

Spots goes up sometimes but comes down quickly. Two pools available, too, if you don't want to deal with solo mining

Probably not the best coin to point a new guy to after the whole debacle it went through not so long ago. He wants something he can actually trade

Elephantcoin has a low difficulty of 0.06086168  at the moment and there's the added bonus chance of getting a Golden Elephant (superblock).  With 200kh/s you're likely to get around 52 blocks a day or thereabouts (if my calculations are correct) solo mining, or you could join a pool (hint-hint...siggy-siggy :) ).
