Title: What’s Next for Bitcoin in 2018?
Post by: ahmadoo on January 01, 2018, 07:08:40 PM
2018 will certainly be an exciting year for Bitcoin, at least technology-wise; major advances have been made to the Lightning Network, the second layer which aims to scale bitcoin for the masses. The project is expected to be completed sometime next year, which would enable instant and nearly free transactions. Schnorr Signatures are also on the horizon, which would restructure signatures in bitcoin transactions to reduce transaction size and thus, fees.

This doesn’t mean that the Bitcoin community can relax and underestimate other coins, however. Even though Bitcoin is the top cryptocurrency right now, there’s nothing stopping other coins from taking its place. Other cryptocurrencies are proving themselves to be serious competitors to Bitcoin – Bitcoin Cash offers far cheaper transactions, while Ethereum is proving itself to be a very powerful smart contract platform. Ethereum will also be hard-forking sometime in 2018 to switch to a Proof-of-Stake system.

So… Moon or Not?

The only right answer to this question is “maybe”. Nobody knows what will happen – maybe the price will stabilize, maybe we will see another 14x rise, or maybe it could collapse. Even though we cannot predict the future, some so-called “experts” think they do; here’s a list of predictions for 2018.

Tomas Salles, FXStreet Analyst – $8,073 to $89,750
Nick Colas, DataStreet Research Co-Founder – $6,500 to $22,000
Dennis Gartman, The Gartman Letter Editor – Below $5,000
Dr. Julian Hosp, TenX Co-Founder – $5,000 to $60,000
What do you think about these predictions? Do you think they will be accurate given that in 2017 all predictions were blown out of the water? Let us know your thoughts below!

There are a lot of predictions out there on the internet but personally i believe in none of them because Bitcoins price is just balncing between 13k and 16k and they said that it will reach 20k at the end of 2017 but that wasn't the case. so i think that's why we can't really predict the value of BTC this year.

I think bitcoin will continue to rise, but in a slower way.

Bitcoin will definitely recover with time but looking at the bitcoin network status and the high transaction fees, it seems like the recovery will take some time. I recently came across a news that few wallet providers and exchanges have started adopting segwit enabled wallets for faster and cheaper bitcoin transactions. I think everyone should start adopting that so that the network can be saved. This way bitcoin will have higher acceptability again and the price will start going up.

Wow, I love the way how you construct your thoughts about bitcoin and other altcoins. Very neutral and to the point. For me, I believe that bitcoin will still soar high in this year and the coming few years to come until it stabilizes and become the norm of transaction online purchases.

Current market cap is around 250 billion dollars. Hereafter it is going need billions to move. It cannot move fast like 2017 anymore. It will still move up, but gradually. My prediction for end of 2018 is 30K.

I think, Bitcoin will definitely recover over time but look at bitcoin network status and high transaction costs, it looks like recovery will take a long time....

Never saw it that way, that Lightning Network might not just add a second layer, but also unclogs the mainnet.
Great!

I think I'm not losing bitcoin because the price is still high and there are so many users here so far no bitcoin even with top investment around altcoins is still higher than bitcoin, just in case More than bitcoin I prefer bitcoin because it's my best practice and great miracle when it comes to bitcoin,But it's a mistake.

Happy New Year to everyone first. There is a little bad news for all the bitcoiner in the house that with the beginning of this New Year, there is a small dump in the valuation of BTC and I guess this must not be the bad news because this is the very common rule of every business that there is a dump after every pump and so for the BTC but BTC has a very great future and BTC would present a very good profit to all its bitcoiner.

So… Moon or Not?

Imho current state is already beyond Moon.
Now Bitcoin enters the big boys' game. Wall Street and very big financial speculators' game.
We may face (more) regulations here and there or at least I expect the big funds start making lobby in that direction.
Governments and banks may play more pump and dump, FUD and fake news games with us.

But there's a good chance that we'll "Get to Mars" in 2018.

New things will surely come to Bitcoin as well. This year will be the year of bitcoin's flames, which may have disappointments or losses, but that will not dampen the Bitcoin followers. There will be new entrants to Bitcoin in 2018

I recently invested in bitcoin, I have learned a lot on the internet about the predictions and analysis. In my opinion, the BTC has reached the $ 20000 level by the end of 2017, and the value will increase in 2018, but the value increase is slower.

The price of bitcoin is rising again and the investors are happy to see this. They are now in the position to sell their altcoins and earn money. The new investor also has a chance to increase their income by trading of bitcoin.

Per assumption, bitcoin will continue to rise in 2018 as many investors are coming in and long term possibility in terms of investment is very promising. As for bitcoins trading volume, absolutely this may decrease on the chances of volatility.

These people or institutions who give thier prediction I would assume that they are expert in the field stock market.their predictions is not just baseless thier opinion about Bitcoin is also base on data the pulse of the masses  who patronized bitcoin. So we can expect a brigther future in Bitcoin as will as all the crypto currency.

The fact is bitcoin would be the most popular in this social media, because as i what i am seeing right now. Basically that would be will happen, but in the meantime bitcoin is still volatile and can easily increase it’s price rapidly anytime they aant

Actually bitcoin price already reached $20000 in some exchange site before end of 2017 and i think it will increase more this year even slowly. But still price of coins change rapidly even altcoin which is the ripple now increase faster and now second to the bitcoin.

That is so crazy right? :) in just few short period of time the price is going rapidly high and if we are in the right position, we could earn a lot in the process. Thanks to these craziness of coins, lots of people could be wealthy in no time.

Well, if that's the case, I guess I'll just collect Bitcoin always at all times. I will try to collect Bitcoin and Ethereum as much as possible and invest or wait for the next few years. I hope I can invest and collect enough money to earn a lot of profit in a year. Currently people are switching to Ethereum because the fee is still a bit, unlike Bitcoin. But I hope people can be wiser to use Bitcoin and still pay me with Bitcoin. I hope also Ethereum can grow rapidly in 2018 is like Bitcoin and can follow in the footsteps of Bitcoin. In my opinion, Bitcoin price will go up drastically in 2018.

Exactly bitcoin can be moon this year 2018, better invest and hold some time. Because in any moment bitcoin will increase again its value. Yes it reached $20k in a sudden time and those who believes in bitcoin can be rich anytime.

it is not really "crazy". i would call it uncommon because it is understandable why bitcoin price went up like this and will probably continued to rise the same way in the upcoming years. that is what happens with anything that is scarce but has a growing demand. people keep paying more and more for it because they want to have more of that "thing". and that is a general principle which happens to apply to bitcoin too and since bitcoin is limited and scarce the rise happens like this.

for today the price for Bitcoin is really very big and I very much doubt that everyone is waiting quietly for even greater prices. The most important thought that worries all users today is that it does not at least fall below. I think that this will be a very huge problem, because a lot of friends have made their money in Bitcoin. Practically threw money into the wind .

We need more development to deliver more promise. I hope LN's make more of a splash than Segwit did and that Segwit really starts to kick in with more exchanges and users. I'm sure people can put up with the fee and cloggage situation with light on the horizon. If it fades away I'll start to wonder.

And who knows what 2018 holds for the whole world? Our focus on Bitcoin may seem piffling soon.

I start to see it more as some sort of an economical attack against Bitcoin by not taking advantage of what SegWit has to offer. By this time we could at least sit on 50% adoption, but instead, services are holding off. Services are the one needing to spark SegWit adoption, because if they don't, what incentive will people have to adopt SegWit? If Coinbase starts with SegWit, I am sure it will just be a matter of months before other large entities in this market will follow, because that's how it works. LN at this point is just being tested here and there, but that doesn't say anything about an actual estimated date we'll see it roll out.

It would've been helpful if its launch hadn't coincided with the bull run from hell which must be pushing services to the limit, but I'm pretty sure services such as Coinbase and Bitpay are holding off mainly to make their political points and pile on the pressure. Bitstamp were right on it. Shapeshift now has it. Kraken has it internally. It's getting there slowly.

I'm slightly shocked the Core wallet wasn't ready to roll immediately.

I like the predictions of how high bitcoin could go but looking at the predicted lows this is of course a whales strategy to buy cheap as this might send out a signal for people to panic sell, but i know 2018 is a special year and things should be more straightforward for btc starting from regulations and or the barriers in its way which should boost the bitcoin price.

The first service to accept public mainnet lightning network payments. I still don't understand anything about channels. I suppose more of this will rapidly clear up the unknowns surrounding them.

There is going to be a lot of trading in 2018. Traders are not HODLERS and they prefer if the price keeps going up and down so they can take profits on a regular basis. Those who are in for the long term should not be affected though but those who are expecting to see the kind of quick gains we had last year will be in for a surprise.

Traders don't really mind whether the price of bitcoins and other altcoins go up and down because either way, they will earn. In fact, volatility is much prefered by experienced traders because a slow-moving price takes time to profit while a price that is keep on changing gives lots of earning opportunities.
