Title: Critique my future setup
Post by: BTC22 on January 02, 2018, 12:38:43 AM
Im trying to decide between MSI VGA Graphic Cards RX 580, Sapphire Radeon NITRO+ RX 580 8GB GDDR5 DUAL HDMI / DVI-D / DUAL DP w/ backplate SPECIAL EDITION or Sapphire 11265-01-20G Radeon NITRO+ RX 580 8GB GDDR5 DUAL HDMI GPU's.

CPU: Intel BX80662G4400 Pentium Processor G4400 3.3 GHz

Motherboard: ASRock H110 Pro BTC+ 13GPU

PSU: Corsair HXi Series 1200w

SSD: Kingston 256 gb

RAM: 4 gb

Any specific risers I would need?

how many cards do you look to run with that psu?

As other would said, buy cheapest GPU, and for 12x GPU with undervolt etc you need at least around 1600-1800w PSU, so for that better split psu kind like 2x1000w or if you mine only cryptonight you can use 1000w+850w that much cheaper. SSD I think 128GB enough (even 80gb is enough). For riser go for 008 or at least 006c/007.

Only 6 to start. I know its overkill, but I was thinking I might add later. Is there another option?

If its me, since the motherboard can go for 12/13 GPU max, better make room for that, that's why buy only 1000w PSU 1st, efficient.

You could also go with the picopsu and server PSU + soldered 6pins or breakout board route. Most server PSUs are rated 80+ platinum or so and they're not incredibly expensive, though prices have begun rising steadily on em. PicoPSUs can be found near $20 or sometimes less IIRC.

Which GPU should I go with?

Any specific risers I would need?

CPU: G3900
MOBO: The 110 BTC price is a ripoff imo (2-300$) so if you dont use those 13 slots its money wasted (You'll need a 5+8 config for GPUs). There are other cost effective solutions for GPUs between 6-13
PSU: Evga is damn good. Go with 2 750w or similar Gold or platinum rated.
SSD: Why do you need 256GB? 120Gb or lower is more cost effective.
Risers: Ver 006C or greater with 6 pin connections are ideal. e.g.https://www.amazon.ca/Bitcoin-Litecoin-Ubit-Dedicated-Graphics-Extension/dp/B072XKB1CW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1514911790&sr=8-1&keywords=riser (https://www.amazon.ca/Bitcoin-Litecoin-Ubit-Dedicated-Graphics-Extension/dp/B072XKB1CW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1514911790&sr=8-1&keywords=riser)

I plan to add in the future for the MOBO. I wasn't sure about the SSD, so I will go smaller. Which GPU do you recommend?

Yeah true..lol. I want to do ETH and if I go with AMD, some other alt coin. Whatever would be profitable.

Is this your first rig? Are you technical and okay with troubleshooting both software and hardware? If yes go with AMD.
If not, I suggest Nvidia to first timers as they are less of a pain to setup and mine with. More flexibility with algos on nvidia.

I personally like Nvidia more due to its stability. e.g I havent touched my rigs in more than a week and they've been mining jsut fine.
You wont find a price for that anywhere.

EDIT: Electricity is free for me so factor that in when choosing AMD. They are known to use more electricity compared to Nvidia and of course you'll need to factor that in also.

It would be my first rig, but I am pretty technically savvy.

Damn dude that's some equipment you got there! Are you going to use it for mining only and not anything else? PLease answer :). THanks!!!!!

Okay then. Look into RX 500 series or Vegas and buy whats cheapest.

I got myself a second hand Corsair HXi 1200w and I just LOVE it.

Last night I noticed the PSU got pretty hot without the fan blowing. I connected the USB cable, installed the software and voila, I was able to change the fan curve.
The software also shows how much power my GPUs are pulling. I love it.

They look like they should be fine. I only buy mine direct from Mintcell but those look exactly the same and will work. Just dont use the SATA and stick to the 6 pin.

Than you. Also, if I went with two PSU's, do I need any special connectors or anything?

Also, whats another motherboard that is close to the ASRock H110 Pro BTC+?

Which software?

There's a USB port on the backof the PSU. Connect it to a USB port and install "Corsair Link". Looks like this:

It's extremely handy to see/know how much power your connected components are drawing. Pretty cool stuff.

Some people say you _need_ this: http://www.add2psu.com/
Other people say you don't need this. I didnt take a chance and got it. Only costed me a few euros.

Edited to add: Check this:

Making 12 GPU Rig still easy now, though 8 rig preferable. And if you can get Vega, go for it, much better. For 1300-1400w you can run 12 RX 4xx/5xx with 12kh/s for cryptonight, or 8 vega with 15.5-16kh/s.
