Title: Double spending question
Post by: Kihulane on January 02, 2018, 01:10:31 PM
Hey Bitcoin family.

I know people are sick of hearing about unconfirmed transactions and so on, but please hear me out.

My transaction is here:

https://blockchain.info/tx/f53e4b6f38c56def1eec180ae96103fae5a72204f169b26e4d11880566fe7384

It was sent on 2017-12-16 and has been stuck since then. I've tried different transaction accelerators but nothing. People have suggested me double spending but i have no experience with this. Can i double spend my unconfirmed transaction with Bitcoin core wallet?

What are my solutions?

Help is much appreciated.

Which wallet do you use now? If you can export the private key to 1NZvwwJtqyKK8gJjKWGFaG4Do79XRGKASe, you can import it into Bitcoin Core and create a new transaction. Do you have Bitcoin Core already, or do you still have to download 150 GB blockchain to do this?
There is a chance Bitcoin Core picks up your existing transaction from mempool though, which makes it slightly more complicated again.

There are more options (like coinb.in), but that's more difficult and tricky to do if you don't know exactly what you're doing.

Hey LoyceV, thanks for the reply!

I still use bitcoin core wallet which is in prune mode, not 150gb.

So there is a chanche to do it with bitcoin core then?

(always create a new backup before doing anything to your wallet.dat)
I don't think this will work in prune mode. Normally I'd suggest to -zapwallettxes=1 your wallet, but you can't do a -rescan in pruned mode, so I'm pretty sure this won't work.
Code:
  -zapwallettxes=<mode>
Delete all wallet transactions and only recover those parts of the
blockchain through -rescan on startup (1 = keep tx meta data e.g.
account owner and payment request information, 2 = drop tx meta
       data)

I've tried -zapwallettxes=1 and yes, it doesnt work in prune mode. Do i have any other methods for solving this problem?

Try running -walletbroadcast=false when you start up. Then, go to your transaction tab and see if you can right click it and use the abandontransaction. This works similarly to zapwallettxes but it won't rescan. You have to wait abit before spending them however.

I run it through cmd like this: bitcoin-qt.exe -walletbroadcast=false, Bitcoin core opened up but the option it's still grey :/ ,Thanks for the help though.

You can still create a new transaction using coinb.in, but you'll need to use it offline for security, know exactly what you're doing (so you don't accidentally pay a very high fee instead of manually sending it to a change address), and check the raw transaction before broadcasting it online.
It can be done, but it's a steep learning curve.

I just accelerated that transaction for you. It should be confirmed very quickly so you don't need to do a double spend.

Are you sure about that because the OP already said he/she has try bunch of tx accelerator and none to fix the transaction stuck problem which is why the OP choose the double spend as an option.

I'm glad you got it confirmed and just wanted to add that it's always better to try with transaction accelerator first before double spending which is always tricky situation. Today there is a variety of accelerators in offer and somebody is always willing to help.
