Title: [AUCTION] Nolacoin .5 BTC piece REDEEMED/EMPTY
Post by: hephaist0s on January 03, 2018, 02:39:48 AM
This auction is for one Nolacoin .5 BTC piece. It has been redeemed & contains no bitcoin.

This was a beautiful design. The coin is in very good shape, but does have some light blemishes and scuffs -- please see pictures. After redemption, it was kept in plastic bag with some other items, so it might have picked up some marks then -- or, it's possible they can be washed off, I'm not sure. The back has sticky hologram goop on it. The private keys for these were laser-etched into the metal both alphanumerically and as a QR code -- I obscured the key, even though it is empty, because I guess I am just superstitious about that.

One doesn't see many of these, and it would be a great addition to any collection.

Starting bid: .0001 BTC
Bid increments: .0001 BTC
End time: Monday 1/8/2018 at 6:00 PM ET (http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/usa/new-york)

Sniping: Last-minute bids will cause the auction end time to be extended so that the auction ends 30 minutes after the last bid.

Shipping: US shipping is .0005 BTC. Buyer pays international shipping, rate to be determined (shipping from US). Escrow is welcome, but fees must be paid by the buyer.

Reputable bidders only.

EDIT: ETH is also acceptable, rate to be determined at auction close: 0x3c1bC39EC7F3f6b26ACb6eeeEFe7dE2f486a72E9

Glad you like it! Yes, ETH is fine too. I'll update OP with an ETH address. Rate to be determined at auction close.

Not bidding & don't want to open PMs back up, but...
did you also sweep out all the BCH, BTG, CLAM, flippity floppy weebly wobbly forks & airdrops from that private key?

I redeemed it in 2015, so I think the only airdrop that applies is CLAMs, but yes they have been redeemed. To my knowledge there's nothing on the key except hologram glue. :)

The 1/2 coin "rose gold" as I called them with a funded serial number...extremely rare. Rare enough for me to log in to this forum for the first time in years.

So you lurk the fourm not logged in? Or you had someone tell you about this auction?

Well hello! If that's really you, then I'd like to say your coins are still some of my favorites. I wish I'd bought more, not peeled them, etc etc. (same old same old). Here's a post I made about them back in the day: http://object2212.com/?p=55

Can you tell us how many you actually released of each type? The half is marked "of 999", but I'm guessing the actual numbers were lower?

I would have to check the records, but less than 50 coins were sold as funded. It was at the time bitcoin was getting serious, and issues with regards to money transmission licenses became more prevalent. I began the process of getting the license, but it was too tough at the time and I didn't want to risk it so alas I stopped. I was going to sell the coins as unfunded wallets, and I may still do that. The keys are secure and the dual hologram I think even to this day is a great solution.

But to answer your question, the funded coins like you have are very rare.

Very interesting coin, never seen these before.
Were all 999 actually produced?

Current high bid; the auction will end 30 minutes after this bid, if no other bids are received. Any new bids will again add 30 minutes to the clock, until no new bids are received.

I'll be AFK for a bit, so I'll catch up with the winner a little later.

Welcome back arashd!

Is it less than 50 combined for all three denominations(.5,1,3) or 50 of each?   I think the highest I have is upper teens, I'll have to double check.

I would certainly be interested in buying a pile of unfunded coins, these are still the favorites of my collection.

Makes sense, I don't think many 3BTC were sold.   Certainly wish I would have grabbed the matching numbers at least, silly me.

less than 50 total funded coins, of all denominations. These funded coins are super rare. Only thing I have more rare are the ORIGINAL smaller coins, and a "Quarter Bitcoin" piece I made a prototype. I only have one. I actually even paid for 500, but I lost track of the coin minter (my fault, not theirs, I had a cross-country move around that time). It is a unique coin, only one. I may put that up for charity at some point.

Ah geez... you're killing me. I had 2 funded halves, a 1 and a 3, so you're saying I had 8% of the funded coins? I had no idea.

All since redeemed. I redeemed one of the halves so I could verify that it worked for my blog (somebody had to), but then the others I redeemed later... because it seemed like the right move at the time. Of course, it seems crazy in retrospect. This collectible world/corner of the bitcoin universe is a crazy place. It's hard to understand the future sometimes.

I wish I had bought more and redeemed less, of course. I'm a bit sorry to hear that more people didn't buy your funded coins, but I guess it was early days -- people trusted Casascius, but there were few other players (just bhCoin and Lealana?) - and trust can only be proven over time. But, I still have one of your "buyer funded" 1 BTC coins, inscribed with my forum name! So I'll always have that, at least.

And as far as trust goes, since there were so few funded coins then I suppose I should go on record and say I had no problems with any of my 4. You should definitely consider a new project of some sort. You could take old stock and engrave "2018" on it, so it didn't mess with the market for originals, for instance -- but there are many possibilities. If nothing else, do it because it's fun! We'd be glad to have to have you back.
