-Peter Thiel's Founders Fund has bought millions of dollars in bitcoin, The Wall Street Journal reported Tuesday, citing sources familiar with the situation.
-Those holdings are worth hundreds of millions of dollars, the newspaper says. It wasn't clear whether Founders had sold any of its holdings, the report says.
-Bitcoin rises more than 11 percent to trade near $14,711, according to Coinbase.

With a famous investor like Thiel patronizing Bitcoin, could this be really a good thing for Bitcoin; would other famous investors do the same?

As more well known Silicon Valley entrepreneurs start to realize the potential of Bitcoin and how big this will be some day, then we will see more of them buying into this technology. The Lightning Network will be the spark that will launch this to the Moon.

Peter Thiel has seen this potential and he is going to be a early investor, before it goes to the Moon. ^smile^

I think it is a good thing because this will add more popularity to Bitcoin and other crypto currencies and if a lot of influential people gets to know crypto, the value increases as well. I just really hope the devs can do something about the fees because I am afraid, if Bitcoin gets more popular and people are buying then I guess it will only result to higher fees.

Well this is a great news and a great start to the new year of bitcoin with one of the key investors and a major influential people in the industry has seen the potential of bitcoin this could mean that the start of demand for bitcoin will start to rise again drastically which could result to the increase of bitcoin price again.

I'm sure that's part of the reason, but not necessarily the main reason. So many different variables to this situation of course. It's all long-term thinking though, and Peter bought at a good time. It was low, so obviously it'll continue rising

This is only the start of the rise of bitcoin since another popular person invested in bitcoin. Maybe more the price will start to increase once the Lightning Network will be released.

As good as this may sound to some, I don't really like it. I mean, It's always good to have a famous person join the bitcoin community but having a price increase or decrease based on one person opinion's is bad because people would follow him without doing their own research. As an investor Peter knows the risks but that's not the case for the people who are acting based on his decision, I will go further and assume that these people don't even know how bitcoin works.

Bitcoin price seems rather stable now after the bull run of end 2017.
I don't think the news you are mentioning was responsible for a lot of price fluctuation.
I'm wondering however what will be the trigger for a new bull run to reach a new ATH and when this will happen

are you sure "patronizing" is the correct word to use here?!
if you really mean this then we are at a disagreement. but if you meant to say something like "invested in and showing support for it" then i think it is right. because many people (sadly) look at what these people do so they can copy them! sometimes they follow the good things the right way and sometimes the bad things and the wrong way.
it can be good for bitcoin as it is being introduced to many but at the same time if it leads to more reckless investors then it can not be good.

He bought BTC long time ago as article say,investment was 15-20 million $ and today it is worth hundred millions $,so he maybe bought that BTC in time when others big investors like Tim Draper invest same amount in BTC in year 2014.

Bitcoin market reacts on every news,good or bad-but i think this news did not have a major impact on price,we are again below 15k$.I think there is many big investors who bought BTC in last 2-3 years,but it is normal that most want to be anonymous.

This year is beginning in great move for altcoins, although bitcoin is dragging back compare to other altcoin. I have noticed that since the second day of this month altcoin have gained increase in their price. except bitcoin that have not gain much increase in it's price. This is really a good news. These people rarely do wrong investments, also because the news that they are investing is in itself making an asset popular and successful, since they are opinion leaders. Good things ahead for cryptos.

Every now and then some article or announcement like this appears but I don't think this actualy influence the price significantly. Bitcoin price is a bit more complex and no matter how unstable it is and how easy changes this doesn't have direct influence.
But it can affect some users to take the actions like buying or selling depending on the news.

Social media really makes a lot of difference when it comes to popularity of bitcoin and because people get interested about it after seeing the news in the social media demands on bitcoin increases that's why the value of bitcoin also rise. At the moment the BTC rate is in a sideways movement.
