Title: How to Change defaul wallet location in 3.0.3 ?
Post by: xbtboss on January 05, 2018, 03:34:58 AM
Hi
Use desktop Electrum, no portable. OS Win 7
By default wallet file store on ../appdata/Roaming/Electrum/wallet
Want to move wallet file to cryptocontainer. Is possible simple move (copy wallet file to container and delete from c:\..) without errors?
After start Electrum there is "choose file". Can I simple choose moved wallet file from new directory on container? Wil be work?
Also see that wallet file stores on c:\...\Appdata\Local\  as on c:\...\Appdata\Roaming\
Is it duplicate file? Is it also need to remove

or this path write in registry and nothing help?
or it must be set by comand, example as mlink
thanks

Yes, you can put the wallet file anywhere you want (Other HDD, USB, crypto container, network drive etc) and simply use the "choose" dialog to select the file you want to open.

You don't need to do anything special.

Thanks
Sorry for some incorrets in I post above about Local directory

The same file stored here
C:\Users\username\Application Data\Elecrum\wallets

Ok, if move to another disk ,etc from C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Electrum\wallets
but what with C:\Users\username\Application Data\Elecrum\wallets   Can remove also from here? No get errors?

I'd like to know why in AppData\Roaming\Electrum\wallets and Application Data\Elecrum\wallets stored the same folder, data etc with the same size.
Because if put to secure place from defaul location AppData\Roaming\Electrum\wallets it will be no sense if all data stored on Application Data\Elecrum\wallets and if its working files for electrum

That's just Windows being Windows... %AppData% = Application Data = AppData\Roaming

You won't get any errors if you remove the files from the "AppData" wallets folder(s)... Although, you'll probably find they're actually the same, just Windows has a few different ways of displaying them ::)

If you remove all the wallet files, you'll probably find that Electrum will just prompt you to create a new wallet when you start it up the first time... if you then click the "choose" button and select the file from the new location, the next time you start Electrum, it *might* remember where you opened it from... if it doesn't, it'll just prompt you to create a new wallet, but you can just click "choose"...

NOTE: I've never tested this functionality, I always just use the default location.

Use file menu > save copy in electrum to save the file where you want it. To open the file see this (https://bitcoinelectrum.com/frequently-asked-questions/#how-do-i-open-a-different-wallet).
