Hello guys,

So I am traveling to Asia soon, I want to visit a couple of countries in the next few months and live there, however my biggest worry is ofc safety.

For those with experience, please give advice.

I have backed up and secured everything back home and stored it in a really really safe space that no one can find or access except me. However, I heard that it is dangerous to connect on an Internet that is not on your name. I will be staying in an apartment complex, but they offer the Internet from what I read. Same goes with phone, I heard that it can get hacked and 2fa could get accessed if connected on a network that is hacked.

In general give some advice, I would appreciate  that.

2FA isn't something that can be accessed by someone else, the only person that has access is your device and your mobile device only. So that shouldn't be of worry to you. You shouldn't be having any other problems with security if you're using YOUR own devices, given that these devices aren't compromised at all.


Though I am curious, what kind of wallet are you using? Web Wallet?

I am not expert mate but i can give small sugestion, if you worry about the safety i think you just stay away from the wifi from where you stay. Like you said, you can get hacked if the internet is not secure. So when you are on holiday then  never access everything, just stay relaxing and enjoy your holiday.

Simple, make sure to create a new wallet, you can use one of those online wallets if you like, use 2 factor authentication and send only the amount of bitcoin you plan to use on your trip this way if for some reason you get hacked you'll only lose a small amount of money, password protect your computer and if possible encrypt it, do not access your bitcoin through WiFi, connect your computer to a cable if possible, if this isn't an option, you could pay for an hour in a cybercafe and plug your computer there, or you could bring an usb with a safe OS you can use everywhere.

Though it's a bit unlikely that most landmarks are actually doing fishy stuff with their wifi access points, being sure of your online security is always a good idea. If you're paranoid about public wifi hotspots, then your best bet would be to just pay for your own mobile data bandwidth; and if you want to take it to the next level, probably purchase a VPN subscription for your mobile/laptop.

this is vague. some people may call using blockchain.info with 2FA as "really really safe" which is obviously wrong and some consider the cold storage on a pc that has never been connected to the internet and never will "really really safe" which is the right way to do it.
so if you did the offline computer thing then you are safe.

and if things are complicated for you then simply use a hardware wallet instead. they are safe enough and easier to use.

I think you should learn the experience from the pages for long trips on facebook. They will guide you in the most specific way. I also have some advice for you, if you want to travel to a certain country you learn about that country in detail. google will guide you to do it. You should prepare yourself for a good spirit to handle the tough situations. hope you have a nice trip.

I will do that. However, what about exchanges. let's say I have some btc on an exchange because I want to trade. What is the  best way to protect myself? Buy / sell and move btc to my ledger s asap?

So VPN helps with protection as well, not just hiding my IP?

In my opinion, i think the best way to safe while travelling or to travel is first is you need to pray you need to know your destination the background of this and make sure you are take the first aid kit, food and etc, and  you need to know youre packet money it is enough to youre travel.

Indeed, hacking 2FA is very common these days, so many accounts on Polo got hacked while their 2FA is on. The best way to stay safe to stay online is stay away from FREE Wi-Fi. Always connect to the internet securely - I mean encrypted connection using VPN or secure tunneling software. And for your bitcoin wallet to be totally secure you need to have dedicated IP - only that IP can login to your bitcoin wallet, you can get that at PureVPN.

I remember a accident with my friend, he was travelling overseas and he had to do a transaction urgently so, while traveling he used public WiFi to access his coins and next he knew his coins were gone. My advice move it to a paper wallet and don't touch it till you're back. Do not speak about Bitcoins to anyone on the trip. Avoid cashing your bitcoin anytime on your trip no matter what happens.

I don't think you should overly worry. Most importantly - use a secure connection when connecting to Wi Fi!
