If they had your IP address then they could try to hack into your system right? At least if I reconnect to VPN I get a new IP address each time.

Do you have any ports open or forwarded? If not, then you are fairly safe. Just never use your mining rigs for general internet surfing and you will be fine.
A VPN will increase your latency to the mining pool you are using. You want your latency to be as low as possible so that you can submit the shares faster than your competitors. I was wondering about the advantages vs. disadvantages of using a VPN for mining and concluded it didn't make sense for the mining rigs, but it might very well make sense for a machine running local wallets (as well as general internet use, of course).

I find it unnecessary, even if someone has your IP Address, not much harm can be done to you, if any at all, it's not like there is an actual number of people who can actually take advantage of someone's IP. Using a VPN won't do any harm either, so you are free to use if you feel like to, just don't use a free one because they are flooded with users and your latency will be crap.Title: Re: Does it make sense to mine via a VPN? You're going to notice that right away.

Like mentioned by a few people above, when you are using VPN, it would be increasing your latency to the pool server (assuming you are pooled mining). Most of your Shares would be late to pool server (we called it as Stale Share).
It's goddamn good combo VPN+mining. And it goes without saying that both should be set in order and function well-enough. This review should help vpn reviews (http://flashnifties.com/) Try it then go back here after. my base in China uses VPN to have access to nicehash, it is quite stable NiceHash isn't mining pool, but they are a Hashrate marketplace. If you feel stable, may someone that renting your Hashrate will be troubled. |
