Title: Advice for Newbies Post by: jdany on August 09, 2013, 04:31:20 PM When I first joined this community, a wise man bestowed the following advice to me.
It has become my motto. I will surely get it tattooed somewhere inconspicuous. "This place is not rainbows and butterflies." Have fun. Title: Re: Advice for Newbies Post by: Xleek on August 09, 2013, 04:44:02 PM That's true for a lot of things for life in general, and thanks for the advice :)
But I can't hide I'm a bit curious of some more informations about why you're telling us that :) Title: Re: Advice for Newbies Post by: jdany on August 09, 2013, 04:58:40 PM Because it made me suspicious of everyone by default -
and made me develop a method to figure out who I could/can trust. Some walk into this place without knowing the dangers. You are not born with this ability. It's developed by observing assholes in their native habitat. Select the proper repellant. Apply liberally. Repeat after swimming. Title: Re: Advice for Newbies Post by: jdany on August 09, 2013, 05:02:52 PM why you're telling us that :) Because I just watched someone (who should know better) lose BTC because he was trying to be a nice guy. If you are a nice guy by default, you will have a weak moment and do something stupid. If you are a suspicious asshole by default, you will have a weak moment and be a bigger asshole than you usually are. School's out. Title: Re: Advice for Newbies Post by: bobbywvz on August 09, 2013, 05:22:10 PM Haha thanks for advice, yuep my first post (moments ago) was on how I got scammed out of $10k on a batch 3 preorder on ebay. Hope I get some constructive feedback on how to track guy down but probably just going to be relentless posts on how much of an idiot I am :P

Title: Re: Advice for Newbies Post by: pastfarian on August 12, 2013, 12:23:49 AM "This place is not rainbows and butterflies." Hey, longtime lurker on bitcointalk.org and i've been watching bitcoin pretty closely for about 8 months now, I created an account because i want to buy some asicminer shares in the /auctions, so while while i appreciate your friendly warning, it's also kind of hilarious that at this point in the age of the internet that anybody still has to be warned not to take any wooden nickles, I might be a 'newbie' on this forum but i'm not a newbie in life ( i know, famous last words as i go try to buy some asicminer shares). Anyway, that's my introduction and my two cents. thanks Title: Re: Advice for Newbies Post by: Kyle91 on August 12, 2013, 12:26:18 AM pretty damn sure every forum is like that, you got the pricks and the noobs.
