Title: Which hardware (company) would/have you invested in?
Post by: pacojones on August 09, 2013, 05:11:33 PM
There is a lot of talk about hardware vendors and how much this one sucks and how this one is awesome because they let people walk through the offices - I'm just looking for simple candid feedback on what people are doing and maybe why!  Something along the lines of:

I bought from BFL because they sounded good but if I could do it over again I'd go with bitfury because they sell unicorns with the hardware.
OR
I've invested in KNC because they have this really cool fabrication technology that nobody else is offering.

I'm wondering because there are more hardware vendors coming online and the options are getting murky.  How can I (or any consumer) know that <insert hardware vendor here> is reliable and/or will meet their target ship date?

It seems like all of the ship dates are slipping (fine, that makes the difficulty increase level out a bit) but I'm hoping we can pool all of our respective knowledge and information and maybe help figure out the 'best' vendor to invest in...

(FWIW) I've invested in BFL (not my best choice...), KNC & BitFury - I know BFL is shipping last years orders and I HOPE that KNC & BitFury ship in Oct... What are your thoughts?

No one. There are so many preorders running and the difficulty is rising alread 75% each month. Its way to risky at the moment. The moment you get your unit the diffi will be so high that you lose money.
Only my opinion.

Exactly.  I would look at Bitfury or Liquid Synergy Designs if I could order and have them here in a week.  I like modular designs.

Right now I have some shares in KNC group buy and some Avalon batch 3 shares.  I think that's more than enough. Gonna sit tight. There is just too much risk, too many options, and too many unknowns for not enough profit potential in the entire mining arena, IMHO.

I'm going to see where the dust settles by October at least now.

If you crunch the numbers, no miner is going to be profitable. Until a company comes around with ready to ship miners, you are playing Russian roulette.

Wait 2-4 weeks or more before you do anything,READ THE FORUM SECTIONS-Custom Hardware & Group Buys like they were the bible or a porno mag,study,learn,educate yourself.Breath it,live it,learn it.

Even then you may still get burned............................

I bought into BFL in June 2012,FINALLY got my 30GH miner,but barely after 1 year & 5 days.NEVER AGAIN BFL !!!!!!!!!!!!

I have $1500 in Avalon chips & board assembly,again WAITING & may get the shaft stuck deeper in my arse if Yifu delays more than 3-4 weeks  ::)

KNC & BTC garden MAY have the best deal (bang for the buck).......But I'm WAITING BEFORE I send ANY BTC or USD for proof of product & a positive delivery date.

A fool & his BTC (money) & sanity,are soon parted around here,so do your homework  8)

Thanks for the information - I'm convinced now that waiting is the best option, I have a couple of pre-orders, that's enough money potentially wasted.

Who are you preordered with,may I ask  ???

 :o  WOW ,Thanks for listening to my rant  :D

If you REALLY need to mine,watch the Block Eruptors,the price is dropping.I think they'll drop even more in the next week or two.You still need USB hubs,more investment though ::)

@ current exchange rate of $93=about $28 each,almost enough for ROI,still take awhile  8)

You may never get ROI,but it is SOMETHING mining & if BTC hits $200+,you MAY get that ROI afterall  ;)

Do the math:

http://www.alloscomp.com/bitcoin/calculator

Every Terrahash is about 131,384 in diff,so:

19707600=150TH

26276800=200TH

39415200=300TH

52553600=400TH

65692000=500TH

78830400=600TH

98538000=750TH

131384000=1000TH

164230000=1250TH

197076000=1500TH

525536000=4000TH

Best of Luck!!  ;)

None WORTH IT as of this moment  ::)

I ordered over a year ago,thought it was a good idea,sorta was,just no where near the profit I had calculated,due to BFL's & now Avalon's shady ways.

Place an order with BFL now=get it by MAYBE December,if your extremly lucky

Place an order with Avalon chip group=get it by ????????????

I want MORE folks mineing,means more folks to spend BTC to grow this currency/commodity  ;)

eve you are a work of art,ain't ya  :P

Have another 10gH/s of hardware coming in from ASICMiner, ~85gH/s from Steamboat's K16's if/when that materializes, and 400gH/s from BitFury hopefully in October.

After that, I really don't think I'm going to consider another upgrade until the first 1TH units start looking realistic next year.

I put a lot of money into BFL but that was March/April and I thought they were going to meet some reasonable goals (major mistake) I then cut over to KNC for a small order and back to bitfury for an October delivery.

I admit I was caught up in the hype with BFL because I had just learned about ASICS (I'd been mining with video cards for about 2 years, dropped out when electricity was too much $$ and went dark on bitcoin for about 6 months).  So, long story short I'm running the calculations and watching each vendor pretty closely but realistically I'm using 'house money' (money that I never would've had if I hadn't started mining a while back) so I'm not too torqued off about the shipping delays.  My major problem was deciding if I should send even MORE money out based on assurances and promises...  realistically, it makes sense to stop the madness, wait for the hype to slow down and buy a PROVEN product.  Especially considering it's only a couple of months away and with everybody begging to throw money at a new company (myself was included) there is a good chance that when the products hit the street there will be more than people can afford (because they have already sent their money to company A or B based on pre-order promises) that they prices won't be sustainable and I can spend what I was thinking of sending off to hashfast to Company X and get my product in a few days/week rather than waiting "2 more weeks".

Oh and yes, I've been watching the block eruptors - I bought 2 so that I could test software and hardware installations that I'm considering; plus I like to watch the graph on eligius slowly scroll by while I wait for my other hardware.
