Title: Transaction fees are set by core developers, not by the market
Post by: Come-from-Beyond on August 09, 2013, 07:07:52 PM
Satoshi's client doesn't allow to set arbitrary fee (0.00000001 BTC for example) via interface. WTF?

Use a different client. Then watch as no one relays your transaction. You might also be able to do it by providing a command-line flag at boot (I have not tested this):

-paytxfee=<amt>        Fee per KB to add to transactions you send

Right now the effective fees are just the default ones in the software. There's plans to make this more dynamic https://gist.github.com/gavinandresen/2961409 (https://gist.github.com/gavinandresen/2961409).

Whether or not to use Satoshi's client is decided by the market.  Game over.

I believe Gavin addresses this issue, sorry I cannot point to the exact minute.

I wouldn't call it Satoshi's client anymore. It's more of The Bitcoin Foundation's client. That I know of Satoshi no longer works on the development of the Bitcoin wallet.
