Title: Blofgorge getting greedy?
Post by: cstreit911 on January 09, 2018, 04:45:11 AM
Got a notice today that they're selling the S9 again...   $5k USD for a single S9.

That's 12 months before they break even...

Wow.

Yep sounds greedy to me, funny how they have 741s in stock for mid-late Jan delivery and yet MinerWarez claim they can't get anymore and started cancelling all the December orders that were paid for back in October/November. Not sure which of them is worse.  ::)

Can you really blame Blokforge for pricing the S9 at what they are selling for?  It is a free market and the demand is quite high.  It doesn't mean they aren't greedy, it just makes them a business.

The action of cancelling existing orders to relist for a higher price is way way worse.
To me it is definitely immoral (and probably illegal in most countries) - if there is proof that any company is doing this they should be blacklisted as much as possible and if possible banned from this forum.  I did a search but could not find posts about MinerWarez doing that (though I do recall seeing that post before).

I don’t know if MinerWarez resold my paid order to someone else at a higher price or, if the owner took the whole pallet to his own data center and decided to keep them.

Here's the thing I find funny.

Everyone seems to forget that this is a business that deals in let's call it "boutique" electronics. They have to find a balance between sale price, and their costs; which include: salaries to employees, initial hardware costs, and warehouse costs such as electricity, internet, phone etc. Not to mention big surprise profit, no one runs a business to break even.

So is it a price I would want to pay? Not really but the difference is you get the Miner in hand and mining as opposed to paying wholesale costs and waiting for 3 months.

The market right now is crazy, and until a large number of units become available at the same time pricing will stay on the higher end.

That's where you have to make the decision on what you want to do to get your hands on equipment; they're just trying to run a business.

Wow.

At $0.10 power they break even in just over 7 months even at that inflated price, not sure how you are doing your calculations.

Considering how mining used to be just a year or so ago with smaller profit margins and year ROIs anything under 12 months is quite good. Up to you to decide whether or not to buy a miner (though most people here will say no, I also do slightly agree with this). The problem is difficulty jumps like crazy nowadays.

My visit to Blokforge today shows that they have NO Antminer S9's to sell. Yes the front page shows a $5k price for a 13.5 TH S9, and $3200 for a 14.0 TH S9. This pricing of course makes no sense. When you drill in further on each one, you find out they don't actually have one to sell. I don't see any good reason to get upset about a quoted price for a miner they can't actually ship to since they don't have any.

I think some of this is related to mediocre website maintenance rather than anything evil (aka greedy). Clearly if they actually had an S9 they could ship, then they should get a premium price compared to Bitmain which doesn't have any to ship (at this time).
