Title: USB mining: Pool vs Solo
Post by: alnoor1231 on August 10, 2013, 09:42:45 PM
I`m sure this is a noob question, but which is the better option for usb mining: mining with a pool or mining solo? Lets say you have around 30 or so block erupters. If pool is the most profitable, which pool is the best? recommendations?

Pool. Even if you have 30 if you mine solo you may NEVER get a single btc.

Pool. i have 33 erupters and have never found a block. if not for being in a Pool i'd have nothing to show. as for which Pool, i like Slush first, but trying to monitor the results will make ya crazy. just accept that it works. It also is for 24/7 miners. BTCguild is also good. the person who runs it is quite personable and very knowledgable. it's earnings are quite smooth, very little variance.

Enter your numbers here http://www.bitcoinx.com/profit/
Then look at the value for "Average generation time for a block (solo)"

My 30 BEs would spend 169 days before finding anything at today's difficulty. At tomorrow's difficulty, they'd need 227 days.

So yes, pooled.

Try the BitMinter pool for USB Block Erupters.  Their java miner autodetects your BE's so the setup is effortless and instant.  Plus, Dr Haribo runs an honest pool and is always available for support.

I found bitminter after having trouble with the btcguild pool - I've had very good luck with it (reliable, easy, etc.).  I recently moved over to http://eligius.st/~gateway/ though and now use bitminter as a failover pool.  I don't know which one is better, they seem to be pretty close.
