I'd really appreciate your help and advice on the matter. So, my first question is - what exchange is the best? Which one is safe, where are the best rates? But if you want more trading options such as leverage, stop loss or lending, you can try poloniex, its really the true cryptocurrency exchange.

No man, stay away from HitBTC. It is a really bad exchange with horrible customer support. I contacted them over a week ago regarding my account and I still haven't received a reply. Also good exchanges include Bittrex, Binance and KuCoin. Binance and KuCoin are exchanges fast gaining popularity and volume is also increasing extremely fast. New coins are listed on the two quite quick too. Give them a try.
