Title: Bitcoin client inquiry [SOLVED]
Post by: MAJOR on July 08, 2011, 10:11:43 PM
I was skeptical about the manner in which my bitcoin client 'installed' on my linux system because there was no installation process, merely a launch icon inside the downloaded bitcoin folder. It brought up the client and I subsequently used the newly generated address to make my first bitcoin transfer from my trade hill account.

Over 24 hours have passed since that transfer of just a few bitcoints from trade hill to my address, yet no bitcoins or record of the transfer are displayed in my client. This brought me back to my initial skepticism that I may have done something wrong during installation.

On my trade hill account it states that the withdrawl via bitcoin transfer to my bitcoin address is complete. I keep a fairly secure system so I'm not sure about the possibility of theft, especially over such a small amount. Should I wait before concluding that my system has been compromised or have I done something wrong with my client? thanks!

Have you downloaded the entire block chain? There should be a number in the bottom right of your client.

I had the same 'problem'.  Just let the client run for a while.  It took around 14 hours for my transfer to show up.

If you are using debian or Ubuntu (or forks thereof) here is a PPA.

I didn't know about the block chain deal...I'll take the advise and let it run for half a day or so. I managed to get onto block explorer (couldn't access it yesterday somehow) and it states that the funds are there so I'm sure you guys are right. Thanks!
