Title: Flat Rate mining
Post by: Kris on August 12, 2013, 07:33:54 AM
So I had this idea. Would it be possible to rent an apartment provided this apartment have free electricity usage, and place miners all over it...

This would effectively give a flat rate to pay each month for mining bitcoin.

Any suggestions ?

You can rent an appartement for a flatrateprice indeed, but when the owner gets the electricitybill someday he will either raise the rent for it or kick you out ;-)

The probability of this is very high.  :P

Also most leases have a clause in them about "not running a business" in your unit. The electric bill plus an inspection of your unit will quickly provide all the evidence the landlord needs to sue your ass (and/or confiscate your entire security deposit) for breach of the lease contract.

I admit, probably not the best idea in the world, hence the suggestion part.
Just came to me after working 18 hours straight.  :D

Probably when the electricity bill is about 1000$/month you'll get the police knocking on the door because they think you're growing weed...

Some apartment and condo buildings here in Toronto area still offer "free" electricity.  There is no actual bill because the total hydro bill is divided over all owners of the building as part of the maintenance fee (in the case of a condo), or with an apartment its just part of your rent and they dont have actual meters on each unit.  However this is dissapearing rapidly as more buildings convert to a per-unit actual hydro bill

Most miners are mining as individuals not as "businesses".

Oh if they are generating you income they are a business all right.  Especially of you rent the whole unit.
