2017 was the year of ICOs, but what will be the most important thing in the crypto world in 2018?

actually, 2017 was not the year of ico, 2018 will have more ico, i think 2017 was the year that crypto step into public, and 2018 will be the year that blockchain project launched to real world

actually the 2017 was the year of bitcoin and some alts + a few ICO's. But the 2018 will be the real year of the ICO's and I think the q3 of 2018 will be the time when alts will go really high. Also is anyone here investing into CEDEX ?

Actually 2017 was the year of the forks. This year, will be the said year for ICO's. Or it could be the year when bitcoin gets dethroned.

I also think that 2018 will be the year of the "alts", so I'll wait for the high.

This year will be the year of decentralized exchanges, lightning networks and DAG coins. All three will soar. Watch closely for the first fork of IOTA or XRB.

I think that 2018 will be the year under the influence of the cryptocurrencies "proof of stake". All of them will grow very much, as bitcoin already spends more electricity than Ireland and can not continue for so long.

Just surfing around with ICOs started this year... I start thinking more and more that this year we will see thousands of ICO raising from nothing.
And next year 90% of them collapsing as well

2018 will also be a year for ICO, since I know that I can only depend on here for now and it brings a big help so I wish that ICOs won't disappear.

I think alts would pump higher this year. Eth is slowly catching up to btc and other alts are slowly making their names. I think it's so hard for some to get btc so they rely more on alts. Or alts are easier to acquire so they settle for alts.

2018 will be the year of crypto currencies. ICO seems to me to begin to regulate in 2018. I do not think that this is bad. Maybe there will be less scam projects. And generally in general, 2018 for crypts should be an interesting year.

ICOs - people are gonna start realizing that most of them are scams and start investing less in them. This in turn will reduce the amount of ICOs we see, for better or worse.

I hope 2018 will be about blockchain technology. i expect that some companies ( some projects started in 2017 and probably new comers in 2018) will get over the early stages of implementation, and we can see the real advantages what this technology represent. These initial successes can give the whole crypto world a new level of positive publicity, and might help with the regulators too to have a more positive attitde toward the alts and ICOs. Maybe its just a wish that it will happen in 2018, but its just a question of time.

I think Both gonna happen in 2018 as we seen many and many people came in crypto and ivested their money in good altcoin and good ICO as well, and people also got huge return on their investment. So looking as this scenario more and more people will we aware and come to crypto market for good return. So both ICO and good altcoins will rock  in 2018. So study and research well and then jump in good project that definitely give huge return in 2018. 

I'm not sure if this will happen, but I would like to see an already established private company ICO. Many countries (China) have pretty strict requirements for IPOs, so it would be interesting to see if ICOs can become more than just a way for brand new companies to raise capital.

Year of ICOs too. People got the taste of it, and they won't stop. With ICOs like disciplina.io and several others there's hope, that we'll get one normal project among a dozen of wiblley-wobbley strange ideas.
At least, I hope so - looking at the announcements proves me right.

2018 is the year of altcoins. :-* That is for sure. But maybe many Masternode coins will be created, of course, most of them are trash.

I think 2018 would mean the age of Taxationa and legalization. Bitcoin is now becoming a threat to poor countries as is its taxless and it would tell who would adopt bitcoin or not.

I think that 2018 will be the year in wich ICO will mature and we are gonna get rid of all the "dirt" from this kind of investemnt. ANd by dirt i refer to scam projects or by projects done by amateur who dont know what to do with the money once they get it. The ICO's started in 2017, but they continue in 2018 as well and I believe that there will be even more ICO's in 2018 then 2017. But for me, the most exciting thing is that, the ICO's that started in 2017 now will have a finished product that will be launched for real and a lot of people will see their investment in something real, working and active. For me this is one of the most exiting thing. Also, I hope for a stable coin in 2018 but I do not think that it will happen this year. Yet, only the time will show.
Finally, but not least, I think that this will be the year of the beginning of the regulations for Crypto...for good or bad...

2017 was a good year for cryptocurrency. I think it was the beginning.  2018 will be the promising year. a lot of people came to know about cryptocurrency, more people got interested in cryptocurrency.and according to the experts future of cryptocurrency is promising.and 2018 can be the first step to it.if first quarters growth increase or remain constant then they can expect a very good year for crypto world.

Are there any thoughts that someone will regulate the ability to collect money and their quantity? It seems to me that today there is no regulator. I think that the regulator may not appear. Just will come a point when the amount that investors are willing to invest will be less than the amounts collected by ICO. The whole company will be more likely to fail the ICO, or to collect small amounts. After that, the risks grow and investors will invest more cautiously. It will be a vicious circle and market ICO is very much fall.

A lot of people are talking about the lightning network without even knowing that it may lead to a centralized network if some bank gets to have a lots of channels passing through it , which contradicts directly to the fondamental concept of cryptocurrencies which is storing value in coins and exchanging them between people without having a 3rd centralized party in the process and having to pay fees for it to not just make your transaction , but spy over your financial activities .. Lightning network might resolve lots of problems and revolutionize the blockchain as we know it , but people need to gather proper knowledge about it before starting to throw claims that it'll be the savior ..

Indeed , a lot of companies are making smart moves by exploring virgin grounds such as sports and tv shows , which reaches a wide basis of people that don't know about cryptos and that will eventually get interested in it if they find advertisement for it in their daily consumed entrainement feed .

I believe 2018 will be the year of the DAICO. ICO's hard needed restructuring to give investors more security & safety. I strongly believe in startups, there's so much more to achieve in this revolution and I think the quality of these ICO's will just increase, giving more and more (near) safe investment options that could become very rewarding.

As for me 2018 could become the year of altcoins. There always a lot of rumors at this market but if we take into consideration the situation with Tether this year could easily become the year of a huge crash.

2018 will be the year of "public development" of crypto. such a huge public attention has not yet been and it is unclear whether this will benefit the industry or not. even the forum shows how many new people have appeared recently.

I still see 2018 as the year of ICO. The usual amount of money raised in every ICO between this year and last year didn't change that much but while last year to get a 50-100x profit you needed your coin to get in the top 20 this year to get that kind of returns sometimes you only need it to get in the top 100-150

In my opinion 2017 was the year of bitcoin in proportion of 90% and the rest is spreading among good alts like eth , monero etc and fresh new ICO's that have proven that are here to stay. So far 2018 seems to be the year of the ICO's ar at least q1 and q2 are full of ICO's and some of them have already an alpha product or even better so it's gonna be a year to watch cryptos for sure.

Im probably agree that in 2017 year of ICOs most of altcoins have a nice value even bitcoin that reach into $17k specially in month of december 2017, while in 2018 i think year of the fork the value bitcoin is so dip right now $10k in value.

I totally agree with you! This year will show who is who. Most of ICOs will have to follow their roadmap and present working platforms, but I'm sure that most of them won't be able to do it. Only really good projects with initiative teams can survive in this growing market. There're so many project with the common idea, so this year will become a year of competition between them.

I think you are right, in the past 2017, the ICOs were very hot and crazy, there was a few week when the icos made the ETH network crowded, and some governments made regulations to the market.

I think that in 2017 it was the year of bitcoin, but 2018 just started. This in 11 months can be anything.
1. Regulation of ICO.
2. Centralization of some exchanges.
3. The legal settlement of the whole market is a crypto-currency by individual countries.

The number of icos is irrelevant what it is important is how successful were the icos and I think with the new regulations put in place we are going to see less success for icos, now that icos are requiring to know who you are I'm refusing to invest in them and I'm not the only one, that is because I value my privacy and also because if there is someone that needs to come in the open and reveal their identities are the devs of the projects and that does not always happen.

I agree with your opinions (not sure about forks though), in addition to those, I think security tokens (ICOs) will also have a huge success this year.

2018 will be the year of altcoins with a woriking product: like XRB and COSS and also a big war of platforms: ETH vs. NEO as staple patforms and XLM vs. STRAT like newcomers to platforms.

2018 I still think the year is for ICO. but only really for those good and useful ICOs, will lessen the ICO scam. Because people have gradually differentiated what is scam and what is real ::)

I think this year we will see huge changes in crypto ecosytem. Many countries would bring regulations, which is good for the technology. We will also see no. of successful decentralized exchanges. Last year, we saw many good ICOs of utility tokens (at least they pretended so), but this year, we will many successful ICOs of security tokens too. Compared to Dapps, we may see huge success in platforms (protocols). I would think Ethereum would eventually overtake bitcoin this year, and NEO may be #3 at least. Many platforms like Stellar and EOS will also have huge success due to many (some) ICOs moving to them due to Ethereum's scaling issue, but they will get it done eventually, probably in 2~3 years. I would also think institutional money along with ETFs will come to play this year as well, probably in Q2~Q3.

I agree with what you are saying here. 2017 definitely was a game changing year with regards to the crypto market and Bitcoin. Honestly, I became infatuated with the crypto market like never before thanks to the skyrocketing popularity of Bitcoin and cryptocurrency in 2017. I never thought in my wildest dreams that Bitcoin would rise to such a high value in such a short span of time which is why I believe 2018 will be even bigger for the crypto market due to the upcoming features like lightning network etc. This is the reason I'm not selling any of my coins at the current moment and I am HODLING for the long run.

Almost all coins went up in the previous year so almost everyone that had invested in decent coins made some easy money but this year seems it is going to be different, the start of the year has not been very promising with most coins losing their value, so this is going to be the year of just a few coins and not all the market so if you want to have a hope to make any profits then you will need to research projects and invest in the right coin.

Sınce a whole bunch of ICOs was executed ın the year of 2017 there wıll be two major actıvıtıes ın thıs year. Fırstly we wıll fınd out how many of the ICOs delıvered an advantageous fruıt whıch adds up to a sıgnıfıcant amount. i think also ETH will be on the rise this year due to the fact that a lot of ICO's are using erc-20 tokens. i would also consider 2018 to be the NEO year due to its massive use in china.
