With Mukesh Ambani’s elder son Akash Ambani spearheading the JioCoin project, Reliance Jio is likely to build a 50-member team of young professionals to work on blockchain technology, which can also be used to develop applications such as smart contracts and supply chain management logistics. There are multiple applications of blockchain (for the company). The team would work on various blockchain products,” reports Mint citing a person familiar with the development. Meanwhile, the government has warned the public against investing in cryptocurrencies, terming them as "Ponzi schemes". The finance ministry pointed out that virtual currencies are not legal tender and has no protection. It said cryptocurrencies or virtual currencies including Bitcoin don't have any intrinsic value and are not backed by any kind of assets. "The price of Bitcoin and other VCs (virtual currencies) therefore is entirely a matter of mere speculation resulting in spurt and volatility in their prices.
