Title: What are ICOs & Should you invest in ICOs?
Post by: hali1994 on January 13, 2018, 09:28:25 AM
This topic is going to benefit those who have relatively less knowledge and information on ICOs

What is an ICO?

'Initial Coin Offering (ICO)', An unregulated means by which funds are raised for a new crypto currency venture. In an ICO campaign, a percentage of the crypto currency is sold to early backers of the project in exchange for legal tender or other crypto currencies.

Through ICOs , startups have been able to raise more than $2 Billion Dollars in the past 6 months alone.
Seems a very big number. Right? Not in the world of ICOs.

It’s probably the easiest way to raise money as for an entrepreneur overcoming all the biases that they usually face while trying to go for other methods of funding i.e Venture Capital and Crowdfunding. All you need to have is a product which people like, a white paper, and you are all set raise $20 Million in a few seconds.

but beware of the fake ICOs circulating in the market.

here are a few indicators which will help you in identifying fake ICOs

1. Only 6 months old startup which plans to start generating $1 Million in revenue in 3 months.
2. Common statements on their websites like “No Loss, Only Profit”, “10,000% Profit Ratio”. Super flashy and false
3. Many fake ICOs will attached photos of some crypto giants who aren't even related to that project. You always wanna check on that individual's twitter account.
4. Always check the Source code on Github! Go through the code properly and see if its worth investing. take help from a techy friend if you can't read a code
5. Whitepaper with flashy keywords and no meaning indicates FAKE ICOs.
6. Do check Online forums. what the people think about that coin. How many people are in the community willing to support the coin
7. ESCROW - Escrow is basically a service or a wallet that holds coins for their customers until a certain deal is completed. The vendor gets the funds once the task for the client is finished. If the job is not finished, the money will be returned to the client.
Make sure the startup is using the top Escrow service only. If it’s not, it can be a good indicator about the ICO being a non-authentic one.

In the end i'll mention that there's no "perfect" way of indicating an ICO but some check n balances can help you secure a good deal. It's always safe to invest in a coin when it hits the market and exchanges.

In my opinion, investment ICO is still a channel to obtain huge profits, similar to the recently listed Appcoin, which has achieved nearly 10 times of return. However, it is difficult to buy altcoin for 10 times of return.

ICOs can be highly rewarding but one must also know the risks involved in its investments. A decentralized platform where you can never challenge the creator the coin if he runs away with the money.

ICOs are one of the most profitable kind of investment you can make in crypto world. The way it works is , you buy coins of a new project from very cheap price  that has a chance to moon in the future. If you are experienced enough to find promising ICOs you should definitely invest in them.

Really really research the teams.

Make sure the teams are real people who have held senior roles in companies you have heard of.

Then go to LinkedIn and look the people up. Do they have the ICO affiliation written there?? If not, why not?
If they have had senior roles, they should have >500 connections and have multiple articles written on them when see under a quick Google search

Huge red flag otherwise.

We received many questions regarding our ICO (https://tokensale.valhallacoin.com which starts on Tuesday), as our team consists of US Navy SEALS, ex-FBI, ex-DOJ and cery senior security people. Only seeing the linkedin profiles and talking to the team members kept the whales happy.

Maybe your though have a point and maybe it's one good basis before selecting ICO's. Also ICO's is good and there no wrong to invest money on it. Because ICO is profitable kind of investment but make it sure the ICO you will select is legitimate and offering a good platform. Like DIW ICO's it legitimate and offering a great platform. Also DIW has a good features offered on their ICO's and the money that you invest on this during pre - ICO  will ensure get profit. Like different ICO DIW is profitable and it legit.

to put it simply,
do not invest or buy the ICOs,because most of them are shit.
why i said that way ?
because no matter what project is it,as long as whales involved into it.
there will be no tomorrow for this project,
even an existing project could not handle them.

As you said research about the team will give the idea about it is scam or legit project. But ICO investments are risky sometime your token value will be lesser when listed on exchanges so it is better to select a project with more community support too.So we have to invest the affordable amounts on ICOs or else we may ruin our future life by losing all the savings.

If you're looking for high risk and high returns, then ICO is your best bet, because the risk is big enough, but the payoff is just as big.

ICOs are good investment that investors can earn huge amount of money as well as the creators of the project depending on how successful that project will become but the main problem here is most of them are group of scammer developers. that is why we have to research about the project and look if there are negative review about the people behind it before giving our trust and money.

I think the best thing to do is to research a lot into the ICO. I also go for ICOs that has a working product so I can see what I am investing into.

Skepticism is a positive attribute to have in this new and exciting market. As mentioned earlier, there is always a lot of fear, uncertainty and doubt surrounding ICOs, especially online. Be careful of information you read on message boards and do your own research.
