Title: What do you guys think about the new PSUs in CES 2018 for MINNERS?
Post by: tenebriscaelum on January 13, 2018, 03:15:32 PM
Its this time of the year where the Consumer Electronics Show is in the books at Las Vegas Nevada and as I have noticed there are new PSUs  that seemed to be targeted for crypto miners. Like the AX1600i of Corsair with 80 PLUS Titanium efficiency and EVGA's new Supernova 2200 P2 that delivers 2,200 watts of 80 Plus Platinum efficiency that supposed to seven GeForce GTX 1080 Ti's. I seams like some of the companies want to provide crypto miners enough wattage to power multiple GPUs in a single PSU.

What are do you think about this new hardware?

I believe the EVGA 2200 P2 is 240V only, so not much difference from a server PSU other than ATX compatibility without a breakout and Pico board. Should be quieter, but much more $ compared to a server PSU.

What matters in the end is the price, I still think 2 850w is better priced than one 1600w.

Yes , the EVGA 2200 P2 is 200-240 volts only , so its probably not for many "regular" USA users :)
really want to see the price  for this beast :)

According to EVGA this PSU can deliver 2,200W at 50°C continuously! This translates to 183.3 Amperes on the +12V rail. This is definitely the ideal PSU for miners who want to to invest in a solid PSU that can deliver as much power that it promises

The problem is always the same, you will get more GPU connector with 2x1000 than with one 2200W PSU, and it's often cheaper too. there is only 9 PCI-E 8 pin connectors, for a 6x 1080Ti rig you need 12 of them at the least and so on....

The 2200 p2 will have 2 8pins per socket so 18 in total.

If you are buying these insanely overpriced ATX power supplies you are doing it so wrong.

You can buy a 2400w server PSU and modify it to work for $150 or so versus what im guessing would be around a $600 USD ATX psu at 2200w.
