Is that the case? Bitcoin if it dies. I do not think the other coins will go well.

If bitcoin dies, then the entire cryptocurrency market will disappear. In my opinion, it should be. If bitcoin is 0, all tokens should be 0.

Disagree. Currently bitcoin has nearly no use besides being an exchange for alts. Alts such as Ethereum, Monero and others have some use. I can see them surviving if btc dies.

My opinion if bitcoin dies then altcoins will die also. Why? because bitcoin is the father of all crypto currency. if the bitcoin value reaches 0 and dies then it means that all of the people in the world has no more interest in digital currency and block chain technology. on which is for me is impossible because the block chain technology is slowly growing and being integrated in our current technology and daily life.

Bitcoin will still be a storage of value.

IF bitcoin dies then there are still a lot of other coins that will survive and might even thrive because of it. Gotta get out of the mindset of BTC being the only thing keeping Crypto alive.

Bitcoin can't really die, it's a self-sustaining industry for a long time already. Yes, it can lose some or a lot of value, but the network is solid. Other coins are greatly influenced by BTC pric, but as you can see now in ETH, NEO case or utility tokens, they can survive on their own.

I agree, if it dies, everything will end.

you are wrong, it will not be what you think. all there will always be a successor, like the life cycle. as well as with the crypto world. but I guess you're too pessimistic to predict the bitcoin will die at this time. no, bitcoin will survive. let's see what happens next.

If bitcoin dies due to the lack of user because people lost interest in it for the reasons of high fee and slow transaction this event will give other coin a chance to become big in the market.

If bitcoin dies due to banning and being regulated by the government around the world then the chances of other coin to follow the path of bitcoin is surely 100%.

Different events will lead to different results, these occasions may happen in the future and lets no forget that South Korea and China are taking a step against bitcoin and alt coins today.

In past around year back if bitcin dies all alt could have been zero . But now not that case because lots of blockchain technology like ethereum , NEO , NEM , Waves , Monero  are running successfully by creating new projects as well as mode of payment . So many dumb posts here, people pick up a book and read! . Altcoins that are 1)different than BTC & 2) Solve real world problems.. have a life span potential just as long as BTCs.  Two prime examples-IOTA and Ethereum.  Neither are Bitcoin rivals first. Second IOTA is geared towards only the IoT sector and has already made major movement in the space and has been brought on by major firms in the space. ETH has smart contracts that could revolutionize parts of the financial and legal industry (think escrow on Blockchain).

These guys could very well be around forever. Blockchain is bigger than BTC and people seem to forget that so easily. So to say BTC would bring them all to dust, is plain ignorant.

No I think the market has evolved way beyond Bitcoin in the past 2 years, yes it is still the top of the pile but it's market dominance has been greatly reduced and it is seen mostly as a store of value now than something to be used daily.

Agree with you completely. Some people just type stuff without thinking clearly which is something that they need to focus on like some of the posters in this thread. Why do so many people think that bitcoin will die just because there is a dip in its value? If they had any knowledge of the crypto world, they would understand that bitcoin and major altcoins like Ethereum are here to stay.

They will not simply disappear just like that(Could happen if everyone lost internet access around the world which is highly unlikely). Bitcoin and major altcoins will continue to prosper no matter what.

For me it's not gonna happen but hypothetically if bitcoin dies, I think all other crypto will also die. People may doubt to trust other altcoins because they may think that what has happened to bitcoin may also happen to altcoin so they will not try to invest on it.

If the foundation will collapse what will happen ? alts will surely follow btc and thats the end of our world.

Yes that will give a domino effect and every altcoins will start to die too.
This is the very simple logic that a person should understand if bitcoin will die. Even how hard you believe to the coin you bought if bitcoin starts to fall then you'll be also affected.

A lot of newbies who came in for the fast money and wall street are shorting and exiting the markets right now. Only those who really care about the technology and some hardcore long term people like me are staying in. Bitcoin was oversold and now it is retargeting downwards. It tested 10k USD resistance yesterday but I don't know   for how long the market will be down. Also Chinese New year is not helping us at the moment. If Bitcoin dies, I hope at least something else will take it's place.

Absolutely yes,we all know that all those alts made because of bitcoin.When bitcoin dies then all alternative coins will be affected,and a collapse for entire crypto currency may be a possible result.Not only for the other coin but also for all its consumers and users.Change will occur

It seems to me that the important reason why bitcoin can die is important. It can fall down and pull everyone along, but this is unlikely. Rather, it is simply superseded by something else that does not entail such a fall, but only a temporary leap. And so bitcoin is like a dollar. The whole world economy revolves around it. If the dollar collapses, then the whole world will have a hard time. But only for a certain time, and then a more progressive currency will come to the fore and everything will remain as before. If bitcoin collapses, then it will be replaced by more progressive crypto currency or something that replaces it.

Bitcoin will not die now, there comes a time when it will happen.
When Bitcoin dies, you do not need to panic because there is still Ethereum that will be the number one coin.

lol, what does Chinese New Year have to do with the bloody market today?  and Chinese New Year is a month away, so it's not even close.  Bitcoin won't die and nothing can replace it.  Bitcoin is what got everyone involved with cryptocurrencies, not Ethereum, not Litecoin, etc. 

if you think that then it means you have never used any of these coins apart from buying/selling them on exchanges, or probably you have no idea how these cryptocurrencies work.
and you chose the worst two coins for your examples. if you chose anything else it would have been harder to argue, but when it comes to these two it is easy because they both have proven scaling issues worse than bitcoin.

in other words if 10% of bitcoin users start using any of these coins the backlog that will be created on them will the exact same scenario that is currently going on with bitcoin: high fees and slow confirmations.

In my opinion BTC will never die and if at all that happens that would be the beginning of the end. It's is true that other altcoins have true life usage but then without BTC they won't be able to hold on to their positions. The whole Cryto came into existence because of BTC and then people started developing various other altcoins.

One fact that is glaring in our face even if some people will want to argue against it your submission which I will completely agree with. Its until you have bitcoin that majority of other coins becomes buyable which then means when bitcoin is no longer available, one cannot get the coin again and down everything goes. The market is still largely revolving around bitcoin as at the moment maybe in the future it might change but not what we are currently facing.

I don't think the same with you. if the bitcoin dies, there will always be a substitute, however, nowadays a lot of altcoin is pretty good and has a technology that is almost similar to bitcoin, some even more modern.

I think yes, Bitcoin is like an oil, if oil drops then almost everything are cheaper otherwise then everything is expensive.
If Bitcoin dies it means Altcoins aren't secure anymore and almost all cryptocurrency will have no value at all.

Although it's impossible for Bitcoin to die like there's a sudden attacks that could compromise large volume of Bitcoin servers at the same time then almost all of cryptocurrencies are vulnerable also and could affect global cryptocurrency crisis.
If that's the case then yes, Bitcoin dies Altcoins does also.

ETH isn’t a bad example. I’m not saying it won’t be replaced by a better Alt like say ADA that does not have the scaling issue, should be faster etc etc.  Smart Contracts are in fact the perfect example of how Alts can be completely different from BTC and have lasting power regardless of BTC.

bitcoin die it will be difficult because bitcoin is currently one of the good coins and has the strongest position in cryptocurrency. so I suppose if a bitcoin had died there would have been a lot of coins that would benefit from ETH and other altcoin coins.

There are altcoins that are independent. They do not vary from the rise or fall of the Bitcoin's Market Exchange. But as of now there's no way that bitcoin will die since it's the father of all cryptocurrencies and it will stay as it should be.

Not necessarily, no one knows what will happen when bitcoin is lost, too many possibilities will happen mate.
Could be, eth, bch, btg or else replace bitcoin place. Or just the opposite of the cryptocurrency world lost along with the loss of bitcoin.
But I feel the crypto world will never disappear, maybe only a few people will use bitcoin later on. cryptocurrency is a technology that is being developed by many institutions, so it's unlikely that the whole thing will disappear or be worthless.

    For me if bitcoin die,there will be other coin to replace but it is impossible to happen as of now. Every coins are different in value,market,number of demand and supply. Thats why if one of them die, others will survive for sure even bitcoin.

I think if bitcoin died then there is no other chance for altcoin. All will die. But I think bitcoin is starting a new growth

If that happens,someone like ETH will stand alone to replace BTC,if there is an alt that could replace BTC that will be ETHEREUM.

 In my opinion if bitcoin will die then all altcoins will not have their future in crypto world.When bitcoin is the foundation of all altcoins then if foundation is ruined then all will die too.

Some of the future coins will turn to something like stocks. I thinks the ICOs in the future will replace IPOs. And then if Bitcoin dies, that for sure will affect the market tremendously but the future of coins will turn into a different trend of trading.

We should have known by now that bitcoin will never die. This is just an expected correction because market grew so fast recently and that’s not healthy at all. Bitcoin and alt coins will recover soon so don’t worry neither bitcoin or altcoins will die.

Nowadays Bitcoin is no longer the dominant currency in the cryptocurrency world, and it is not the only medium of exchange. So if bitcoin disappearance, the market capitalization of cryptocurrency will decrease strongly but not become 0.

Cryptocurrency is a revolution and innovation, and bitcoin is a pioneer in this field, so i think that, it bitcoin die, there will be an other to appear to replace it, maybe Ethereum or Bitcoin Cash.

I agree. There could be that chance because bitcoin is the pioneer, and the main coin that opened up the market for everyone to actually see. Altcoins only followed suit when people saw the potential of bitcoin to do good things in the market. Also, since the market is predicated in the movement and trends that bitcoin has over other coins, then if the main player dies out, in the embodiment of bitcoin, then all other small players, which are the altcoins, would have the same faith, considering that the big fish didn't survive.

What I know is that, not all alternative coins are dependent on Bitcoin. The price of Bitcoin may affect the value of Alternative coins but it is not necessary they will fail once bitcoin fail. Lets just hope that bitcoin will not totally dump but actually pump, I dont see any sign of failing since people are into it and there were no major conflict hat still occurring.
