I like how clean they look.

However, I don't get a few things:
  • how the backup coin (which they state it's 100% as the main coin) has a lower price
  • why only one customer feedback
  • price

Anyone ordered any?
Thanks for sharing.

1) a marketing ploy to sell more?
2) this is a very new release from what I’ve read
3) price..non precious metal/wanting to get their name out there/advertise
4) I ordered a few..will let you know what shows up!

From the coin maker FYI  -“If you haven’t seen any messages yet, I’ll just let you know you’re part of the first mint and shipment. So we’ll be shipping and the first batch in 10 days. Sorry for the delay but we hope you enjoy!”

Love the design.  Doesn't the back-up coin ruin the purpose of the hologram on the main coin  ???

Brand new company no track record; you have to trust they don't keep private keys. They need to go into detail about how the public/private key pairs are generated and security in detail.

If the trust of the private keys is not there, which in my case its not, I still have bought it for the collectible that it is as an unloaded coin.

I trust very few makers with loaded items and I can count them on one hand so to speak.

So it does not bother me at all as I will be hodling this as an unloaded coin only.

Chatted with the coin maker. They told me they are quietly rolling out this coin while they upgrade the website and get the business rolling in general.

I expressed concern over private keys etc and they fully understood, saying that part of the website upgrade will go
In to much more detail about the safety of it all.

Told them to show up here too. So we shall see.

Hi Guys!

Great to finally be apart of the community and for the support already received.

I’m part of Cold Coin Bitcoin, an Australian company and a small team at that. We’re still in development but over this weekend there will be an update to our site that will go in depth on everything. I’d be happy to answer any questions I can though, but more importantly I genuinely look forward to hearing all your suggestions and input. You guys are the main early adopters of this product and service so we take your opinions very seriously.

We want to try be as transparent as possible, it’s just early days + small team at the moment so we’re building information as we go, and I’m sure your input will help shape what we do.

The Cold Coin GOLD v1
250 made + 250 backup coins.
When you purchase a coin or coins, you will create and save your 2FA paraphrase (we do not store the paraphrase so it’s VERY important you save and make a backup copy). The paraphrase generates the public and private key on our end so we can manufacture your coin/s. We save your public key, but the private key is saved as a backup offline. The coins cannot be used without the private key on your coin/s + the paraphrase you created. So if you loose a coin it would be useless to someone else.

We are working on account dashboard that could potentially show your public key/s when logged in, and a link to view the balance loaded on your coin. All coins are buyer funded.

Hope we can deliver what you guys want and expect : )

Welcome to the forum!  The one question at moment I have - I ordered two coins (original + backup) and did not fill out any pass phrase stuff.  I had another member mention they had to in order to place the order.  Could you possibly shed some light on that? Really look forward to seeing you guys grow, this is a really nice first coin for a lot of reasons. Thanks !

Title: Re: Cold Coin Bitcoin from AU
Post by: coldcoinaus on January 19, 2018, 01:14:28 AM
We did notice 1 user didn’t fill out their paraphrase so we will need to email you a link so you can do so. We think there’s an express checkout user journey that bypassed that page, but not to worry.

We will also send all customers an update newsletter on process of the coins and shipping expectations. To keep you all in the loop here, we’re waiting on a heat transfer material to arrive before we can start printing next week and there’s been a delay on our packaging. So we appreciate your patience and we’ll at least send pics and updates on where everything is at

Finally! We will start shipping this week! We are proud to be the only coin on the market with 2FA Security code on our coins, and they look pretty sweet if I do say so myself. I hope you guys love them and you have nice things to say about them, obviously we're up for any feedback you may have.

Thanks again

Edit- what does that #2 mean?  I thought these didn't have serial numbers?

Can orders be placed through the forum and would it be advisable to get the backup coin also?

Hey y'all. Yep they're numbered 1-250. Because of the wallet creation and paraphrase security, it can only be purchased online coldcoinbitcoin.com

Thanks hope you like :) please leave a review on the site if you can! <3

Received my coin, mostly looks great.  I noticed minor defects with the hologram on my coin, and was wondering if anyone else has a similar error with their coin's holo.  I highlighted the defect in the Imgur album.

Image repost service would be appreciated :)

Looks like it could have been caused when they were applying the hologram. Not sure exactly what method they choose, but if anything touches the underside of the hologram before it is applied, then the tamper effect will kick in. It would be interesting to see if other coins have the same elements on their holograms or if yours is a one off.
I know that Casascius recommend using transfer tape (and used it himself when applying his holos).

That is interesting to learn, I was wondering what had happened there.  If you look closely there are small specs missing in other parts of the holo too.

I noticed that when you look at the images MinerJones posted earlier in this thread - the holo on that coin is at the very bottom, and mine is in a different spot on the back of the coin.  I am guessing all holos are applied by hand.

I will have to dig mine up but I do believe mine has small issues with the hologram as well.  I have reached out to ColdCoin AU on instagram to let them know there were people here with questions/issues.

These look really great but the hologram is an unfortunate issue, curious as to why some have not received their orders yet, and when we should expect our "back-up" coins.

Still awaiting a response for the correct tracking number  :P

That hologram issue looks like it moved after initial placement, possibly a minor adjustment by the hologram placer during assembly.

Post some pics of your coin when you get a chance, it would be interesting to compare.  Do the backup coins ship separately from main coin? I didn't get a backup  :o

That hologram issue looks like it moved after initial placement, possibly a minor adjustment by the hologram placer during assembly.

That makes sense too.  It seems like the hologram placer removed the broken part of the hologram because there is no reminisce in the holder.

The backup coins are optional add on purchases and ship separately IIRC.
Regarding the hologram, if a tool was used (tweezers or some other transfer means) it is likely that the holo remains (tamper part) would not be seen as it would have come off onto whatever object was touching it.
If it was a matter of re-applying the hologram then I’d doubt you’d see it as the newly placed hologram would cover it up.
However, from the consistency of the ‘markings’ it would seem like the former is more plausible.

I received my coin today (after it was held hostage by customs for several days  :().

They didn’t include the backup coin inside the parcel (although I ordered one) .

There are some slightly barely visible minor defects marks in the hologram (but nothing major like the Crypto_Collection user’s coin.)

Furthermore, they messed up with the customs declaration form. Although they sent me only the Cold Coin (39$AUD with free shipping), they put in the form a total of $50AUD.

That triggered customs, and I ended up paying additionally 24Euros/38AUD.

39$AUD total is just above the limits of the tax free total threshold, in my country (1 euro above), hence I might had skipped customs at all.

And the most frustrating of all…. although I received a really low number (#003), then I realized that I was beaten by minerjones!!!  ;D

haha.... you still got a pretty good number considering the distribution seems random.
(As the rest of the ones I received were various different numbers)

I would definitely message or contact them telling them what happened.
One would hope they would make it right by refunding what you had to pay out due to their error.

And I do find it weird that no one has received their back-up coins yet ???

Also, are people able to log onto the website and access their account?
I keep getting a password reset come up and do that, and still just nothing :(

my skam-o-meter needle is beginning to move... loolz

Man, I'm sorry ya'll have had so many issues.  I've still yet to receive my backup and like I said before I reached out via Instagram.  I let them know that there were several inquiries here on the forum that needed to be addressed (1 week ago now).  They told me that more packages would be going out soon.  Hopefully they will provide an update here on the forum.

I can logging to my account and see the order history, account details etc. That part works fine with me.

Moreover, when you posted confirmation that you received your coins, I sent them an e-mail asking why I didn’t received a dispatch note yet, for my order. They replied to me that there was an error to my shipping, and that now is fixed (+ provided me with a reliable tracking number).

I am not defending them, but at least my personal skam-o-meter is not moving at the moment. (+ the fact that I have in my hands the “major” coin)

I already sent them an email, and I am waiting for an answer from them.

I am not sure who to blame here (myself/local customs/seller). You have more experience in International shipping situations.

My perspective: I received an item, for which I paid a total of 39$AUD (including free shipping). I had a decent possibility to skip customs since total was slightly above the tax free threshold.

Local customs perspective: They received an oversees envelop for inspection, with 2 indications. 1) customs declaration form: 1 coin value $50AUD 2)a tracking number sticker from Australian post office which had a huge bold label indication “$32.99 Postage Paid”. That’s a total taxable value of $82.99AUD.

Hi everyone,

Sorry for the delay in getting back to everyone. We trust everyone should have their orders now including backups, which were sent at a later date.

We've had a bit of backlog to catch up on. If anyone is still waiting for any orders, do contact concierge@coldcoinbitcoin.com and we'll help you out asap.

Just addressing some issues below:

Placement of hologram:
Unfortunately, these are placed manually and are very delicate, so that with the added trouble of shipping, honeycomb blockchain pattern and thin material makes it easy to damage. Once they're on they can't be moved. We managed to improve the placement method in which we use from now on, so we hope we don't see more of it.

Declaration at Customs:
Our dispatch team when filling out postage didn't know the exact pricing of our items or the implications of putting a higher or incorrect price (they thought it was only for insurance purposes apparently). We've contacted the person that was affected and obviously, we'll be sure that doesn't happen again.

Site Password:
Everything does work online though there are 2 user journey issues that need to be fixed and are very confusing to any user.
i.e 1. When you log in, you need to click 'My Account' button, where it should automatically be taking you there. It looks like the home page is just refreshed otherwise.

2. When you select to reset the password, it doesn't take you to a confirmation page, but rather looks like you've logged in and there's no user data. This is not the case and an email would be sent to you to create a new password. Though that also takes you to a login page with no reset options. We will fix this asap.

If you need to reset your password please contact concierge@coldcoinbitcoin.com and we fix this asap.

Thanks for your patience with all this guys, as we find our way through the new processes. Last thing we want is for any of you to have a crap experience so please don't hesitate to email and we'll contact you asap

Title: Re: Cold Coin Bitcoin from AU

Backup coin arrived today!!!

It looks like 100% identical with the main coin (with the same serial number). I am not sure if it is a good or bad idea, having 2 identical coins with the same serial number, with no ability to distinguish which is the main coin, and which the backup.

#003 is a very low number, hence if I knew it before, I might had ordered a couple more of those same serial number backup coins  ;)

Did anyone else had problems with customs? (due to the wrong declared value in the parcel).

Backup coin (valued at $19AUD at time of purchase), arrived with a declared value of $55AUD, in the customs declaration form  :(

I can confirm that, coldcoin reached out to me, and based on their explanation, it seems like an honest mistake. (+offered me a discounted coupon for my next order)
