There are some well known platforms that you should use due to probably being more reliable than smaller ones. I recommend Bittrex/bitfinex/binance. Apart from being reliable/trusted, the decision will also have to be based on the coins you're gonna be buying, because each one of those sell specific coins, and maybe only one of them has the coin you're looking to trade, so thats up to you.

A platform is a group of technologies that are used as a base upon which other applications, processes or technologies are developed.

In personal computing, a platform is the basic hardware (computer) and software (operating system) on which software applications can be run. Computers use specific central processing units (CPUs) that are designed to run specific machine language code. In order for the computer to run software applications, the applications must be in that CPU’s binary-coded machine language. Thus, historically, application programs written for one platform would not work on a different platform.

There are lots of cryptocurreny trading platforms available out there. the most popular are poloniex, bittrex, gdax, but the best for now i think is binance. but your problem is some of those known trading platforms are currently close for new user because they are upgrading their system so that they can handle huge traffic in their paltform. you can try binance but i dont know if registration is open.

When I was starting in the market a nice guy gave me this link. Now I'm giving it to you:

https://coinmarketcap.com/exchanges/volume/24-hour/

Do your research. They are sorted based on volume, but the coin diversity, the general reliability of the exchange, the amount of fees, the UI, and the quality of support matter too.

My personal choice is binance. God, it wasn't a long time ago when I recommended bittrex, but they lost people's trust with their bad support and the scandal of disabled accounts.  :(

Cryptopia is also a good platform.
Major exchangers right now are really managing their traffic that's why they close the registration temporarily.
Binance closed their registration again. I think, If He wants to trade on major exchanges platform he have to wait for the registration to be open again.
