It's not just small coffee shops/small businesses in the US that are accepting BTC. Online/e-commerce sites like overstock.com, newegg.com, cheapair.com, and expedia.com (for hotels only atm) are accepting BTC for payment options. I do believe that companies in several countries in Europe are also accepting BTC, though I cannot say that definitely.

It actually depend on what a person wants to do with his/her bitcoin, its a case to case basis, a few days ago i saw a video on youtube that a man bought a lamborghini aventador via bitcoin.

While in other parts of the world bitcoin is being used to pay bills such as electricity and water bills, while some just want to buy a coffee or other things they can with bitcoin.

On some special occasions, there some people who trade bitcoin for real cash by passing exchanges for the sole purpose of being anonymous.

where else in world is it being used as a currency?

I think most part of the develop countries, citizen there use bitcoin to purchase anything they want in exchange for bitcoin, but i think bitcoin is hardly used by people nowadays to buy stuff offline, mainly the reason for this is that the fees that you will have to pay in extra just to make a transaction which is not good right now.

I really want to use it for daily life, but you know the fee for one transaction is to damn expensive. You say for buying coffe ? who want to pay something but the fee is more expensive than the product i buy. Pass mate, if there cryptocurrency accepted as payment method for daily use, ill chose the one with cheap fee

Bitcoin is in its developing stage yet and to expect it to be well established in the industry will be foolishness knowing it's high fees and other issues regarding scaling. It still has to face more obstacles before it gets implemented in real world applications. Although there are some merchants in a few countries that do accept Bitcoin as a payment, it will be accepted worldwide only when it's issues are solved. We can expect the Lightning netwokr to solve most of the issues and may be then many other merchants will start accepting bitcoin as a payment mode since micro transactions will be possible at that time. Until then we will just have to wait for it to be a reality.

I heard in Jogjakarta, bitcoin is used as a payment for a coffee but unfortunately, I cannot find that cafe.

Japan for sure. Because in japan bitcoin is legalized and its free for citizens to use bitcoin as payment which is the same purpose when it is made by satoshi nakamoto.
Recently, i know 2 things like slow transaction and high fee that can lead people dont use bitcoin as payment

Bitcoin is used for the real purpose that's what it should be. But not a few people use bitcoin for crime purposes. Why do they use bitcoin for crime? Because bitcoin digital currency is very easy to use. Therefore bitcoin users should be more careful. In order for bitcoin to be used properly.

Bitcoin is designed for storage of wealth. sooner or later there will be another crypto to be used for purchasing all kinds of goods. this crypto has a lightning fast transaction with almost zero fee. It may be a blockchain 3.0 with scaling technology.

This is the actual purpose of bitcoin.

Bitcoin and altcoins are literally saving lives in Venezuela. Here in Brazil i've already heard about small establishments accepting, there are some trusted services that's allow you to pay almost any type of bill via bitcoin. These insane transaction fees are undoubtly delaying the dissemination of bitcoin as a payment method.

Here in our country bitcoin is used for faster overseas and local remittances and there are also local services that allow us to pay in most of utility bills, credit cards, insurance, tuition fees, internet connection bills and buy gift cards or game credits using bitcoin. it really gives me convenience because i dont have to go outside to pay those bills.

I live in one small Indian city.  My experience here is that people are using bitcoin just for investment purposes with the single motive of earning higher returns on price hikes.  Most of the shopkeepers here will not accept payment if offered in bitcoin.  May be in big cities like New Delhi; Mumbai; Chennai etc people may be using bitcoin as payment because there people are economically; educationally; very much forward so they must be using it as mode of payment in addition to investment purposes.

But now more and more people are getting connected to bitcoin so in very near future I expect that most of the Indians will be using bitcoin as payment mode in addition to investment purpose.

Some entities are already accepting bitcoin as payment for their goods and services and not only bitcoin because other alternate coins are also used on the same purpose. The only thing that is so discouraging is when people used it for their shady activities which gives a bad reputation for bitcoin and to the rest of alternate coins.

Because BTC is so illiquid it's a good asset to use as collateral against loans of more liquid assets (like XRB or XLM)

just because you haven't checked out how many hundreds of thousands of merchants online and offline have been accepting bitcoin, that doesn't mean they don't exist. it just means you had your head in the sand so far and couldn't see anything.
currently high fees have killed almost all of these but i am sure as soon as fees come down they will all restart as before. and it doesn't matter how some people try to change the "purpose" of bitcoin, in the end it is only powerful because it is a currency.

I already posted this link before. I just don't have proofs that they do accept bitcoins.
What are the odds.

Also, I think bitcoin is made for its purpose and the income thing is just bonuses here. I think the income part is one way of gaining amount of bitcoin for everyone and make it more accessible.

In our country, it is made for OFWs to have cheaper and faster transactions to serve families.
And the wallet here are credited to be connected to particular schools, banks and remittances to make payments easier.
I am still hoping that it will be extended in other programs and markets.

You are right and wrong. Indian people just think about investment and getting rick quicker. Hardly anyone knows how Bitcoin works here or its real world case. I live in Bangalore and there is like one restaurant here that accepts Bitcoin now which I doubt if they are still doing it. But a lot of seminars and meetups are being held by Techies on Blockchain technology and how the same can be implemented for real world use cases which I feel is a right step taken. On the contrary Bitcoin was mainly created as a decentralized currency. But due to its scaling issues I don't think anyone would use it that way though. Also the fee in Dollar is like $10 which translates to almost rs 600 which is the daily wage of a Indian common man:(

I hate to break it to you, but paying in Bitcoin is already banned in Indonesia. It seems to be especially strict in Bali. You may read up on it here:

http://www.thejakartapost.com/news/2018/01/15/bank-indonesia-police-prevent-bitcoin-transactions-in-bali.html

It's interesting how you mentioned Bali, and that's exactly where the crackdown is. Is Bitcoin trading really that proliferate there? I know Bali attracts a lot of tourists all over the world, and they may be foregoing buying your national currency because they can get away with Bitcoin payments. That could be why your government is upset about the whole thing. It would be great if we could have a local's input on this.

Some online business is already accepting bitcoin as payment. But the problem I think is the security of bitcoin users which their bitcoin wallet is very volatile to hackers. But these feature can be improved I guess, I do believe that most BTC Exchanger sites are working on it. Maybe in few months or a year bitcoin will be popular and be accepted even buying on retail stores.

bitcoin is investment coin more than buying. people use bitcoin to invest it and sell it when price rising.
Thus, many are betting on the future and that the currency will have a bright future, or what is known as a store of value.

i know too many coffee shops stop accepting bitcoin because no one ready to send them bitcoins with very high fee for buying coffee.

The more people know about digital currencies, they will appear using the dollar for daily use, but this depends on fees and the extent of fluctuations.

i think only Venezuela use bitcoin as  currency.

Here in my country I can make use of payment processors and basically buy anything that other people can buy with cash.

We also have pubs, where we build a tab and then drink until the tab is filled. {just work better to reduce the miners fees, not

to charge per transaction... but this has to be pre-arranged with the pub owner} There are also tons of things that you can

buy on the Dark Web with bitcoins.  ;D ;D ;D

There are many places that use Bitcoin today, but they are not organized yet and may be known only to certain communities. Usually they receive payment with Bitcoin and also real cash so that Bitcoin is usually used as an alternative as payment. Maybe there needs to be a regulation that can manage everything, Bitcoin can actually benefit all parties as long as it is arranged appropriately and does not harm some parties.

I think that the price is flactuating to much now for it to be a stable currency. When the whales have sold out, the price have dropped and the coins have been devided on more people, the price will stabilize more.
Until then for me its simply an asset to trade with, and way to risky to spend on bread and milk.

Well,I will say bitcoin is not yet ready to be used as a currency. No one is willing to wait for hours until the transaction get confirmed and the fee is high like $10 for a single transaction and it is not affordable fee when we buy something for $2 worth of product. So we are in the early stages and rarely people using bitcoin as the payment.
In my country no where I can pay in bitcoins still now.I think atleast 5 years needed form now to start using bitcoin as regular fiat currency.FOr now it is only investment for me and many people as well.

I know there are a few places around here in Canada that are using Bitcoin "properly" as a currency but the entire thing hasn't really caught on in an insane way. It still remains mostly niche for what it is, and in a way, I'm fine with that since there isn't anything to really detract from the overall impact and influence it has on the community while it remains in its infancy. There might be a bit more growth when it comes to places that will accept Bitcoin in the future, but for right now the small homely aspect of it makes me feel a lot better than it would if it was a massive and ubiquitous thing.

I think the Swiss were also using Bitcoin quite significantly as well, but don't quote me on that.

Indeed, in countries where inflation is high, bitcoin is likely to be a new means of payment, replacing their country's legal currency.
But for now, bitcoin transfers are too expensive, not fast enough to be used for small payments.

Bitcoin is a very good by means of medium during exchanges and transactions because it is more flexible than fiat currency. Bitcoin is a hassle free when used in transactions such as send and receiving money with just a click and slide on your smartphone or computer you can do it. Well it is created to be a currency and not an asset at all though it has a high value .

In Japan bitcoin is a currency where you could use it as an alternative for fiat, if you don't have money but you have bitcoin, then you don't have to worry getting yourself starve to death because bitcoin is always there for you. How I wish that we could use it globally if we don't have fiat but it seems like too good to be true right now since not all of the Government are pleased by bitcoin.

where else in world is it being used as a currency?

in my country especially in Bali, bitcoin use as a payment at a local store but unfortunately, I don't have the experience about this and maybe later if I am visiting Bali, I will take the chance to pay a cup of coffee with bitcoin. but in the rest city, I don't think that bitcoin is used as the payment. but personally, I use bitcoin to withdraw to fiat and sometimes I used bitcoin to buy electricity tokens with bitcoin. I heard in Jogjakarta, bitcoin is used as a payment for a coffee but unfortunately, I cannot find that cafe.

but to used bitcoin as a payment is illegal right? as far as I know the government prohibit the use of bitcoin, the government will give a warning to anyone who uses bitcoin as payment, although bitcoin is not banned in our country but we can't use bitcoin to transaction. and maybe now the store you mean is no longer receiving bitcoin.
