Title: Cointerra Releases 2 TH/s Miner for ~16k
Post by: geofflosophy on August 19, 2013, 08:53:07 PM
From the Genesis Block: http://thegenesisblock.com/cointerra-announces-2ths-asic-bitcoin-miner-for-15750/

The miner uses 4 chips at 500 GH/s each, and costs $15,750. It will consume 0.6 W/GH, for a total of 1200 W.

Personally I think this is way too expensive for a December shipping date, and don't expect that it would be profitable. No word on payment methods as of yet, as it doesn't seem they've listed it on the site. I wonder if TGB released their article too early...

Anyone planning on ordering?

We'll see where this goes. Maybe some competition for KnC?

another cointerra thread?

Why should we trust Cointerra when they can't even be relied upon to release announcements in a reasonable timeframe ?

This is why you don't make announcements about upcoming announcements. You just make the announcement when you are good and ready.

I don't think so. Between KnC and Avalon pre-orders there will be another 1000 TH coming online by the end of September alone, not to mention ASIC Miner continuing to build their farm, BFL continuing to trickle out hashrate, and all of the stuff that will be delivered in Oct/Nov (more KnC, Hashfast...). Price is too high, I don't think they'll be profitable delivering in December.

Proof? Besides linking an article with no actual source? but I guess that's all it takes in the BTC world, random articles.

They announced on the forums two days ago that they would be announcing prices in 48 hours. There is also a comment verifying the article details from Tuur Demeester, a known Cointerra investor.

That's all I've got proof-wise, but it seems like a good start. A page on their website would obviously be better.

Yeah the only thing is the TerraCoin investor, other than that nothing. If these prices are correct these guys are out of their minds, these things will have negative ROI.

If the hashrate doesn't go up like it has for the last few months then maybe these units will be a good deal. I wouldn't order one till November though.
I however believe it will go up more than we have ever seen before, between now and then.

The more time passes the bigger of a complete joke these guys become. They have "Tuur" the investor going on their and commenting like a dumbass, and not even commenting on the forums if he so wanted to clarify things, unless this was all made up.

The fact that they haven't said a single word about it still makes them look like complete idiots.

HashFast "will have" 1 chip / 400 GH so why do you not believe it?

The 2 TH/s miner will be targeted towards retail customers and housed in a 2U air-cooled container. Early estimates of power efficiency indicate 0.6 Watts/GHs, 1,200 Watts total, though Cointerra wants to remain conservative with power estimates until manufactured chips can be measured. The miner will be self contained with a power supply and controlled through an ethernet port.

1200W of heat inside a 2U case (more like 1333W considering η=0.9)? :o That'll definitely fry some eggs! ;D

Example of a 2U case with PSU:

I don't think it will actually matter that much, the slow down in block solve after the latest diff increase is already showing that at 35% diff increase every update a MASSIVE increase in hash rate is already discounted.

Are there even any 1200W PSUs on the market that are suitable for a 2U case?

I have heard multiple reports of meeting them at the Inside Bitcoin conference in NYC a few weeks ago. One was definitely on the Let's Talk Bitcoin podcast. Apparently the Cointerra guys and KnC guys were nerding out together. Josh must have felt very left out.

Quoting myself, I cannot find 2U PSUs for much more than 500W...
