For those of us that want to go caseless, but eschew the pizza box approach, take a look at this:

not bad but your still restricted to having your cards in the normal slots, most of us want to use risers etc and have the cards more spread.

I'm going with the DIY approch will post some pics once i'm done :)

True, but perhaps a couple of strips of aluminum could be added to create riser support.

May be worth a try.  I think the myopenpc acrylic caseless is too flexible, and therefore I like that this is metal.

I wasn't impressed with myopenpc. If you had 1 card, like the looks of it, maybe. But it's flimsy, really unstable with 3-4 heavy cards on it and honestly if I could do it over I'd just take a peice of wood, drill 1/8" inch holes and mount the motherboard on that.

Wood is a lot easier to expand/adjust and it's cheap. The aluminum 80/20 setups seem pretty nice.

EDIT: Wanted to add if you wanted to get myopenpc as a cool desktop, it will fit the bill. The value is pretty good for the price. But a mining rig is just more then it was designed for so I wouldn't suggest it for that. The product itself was pretty cool it's just more about looks then running a quad video card mining rig.

Indeed. I had my doubts about plexi strength/flexibility in this application.

A few months back I saw a really functional open testbed/case by a big case manufacturer, but I can't remember which one. I do recall it was pretty expensive.

Ah, here it is: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811112287
Lian Li of course. Still doesn't solve the issue of extended mounting of the GPUs for better cooling though.

I think this case with a rail added (http://forum.bitcoin.org/index.php?topic=27874.0) would work nicely.
