Title: Why Altcoins fall when Bitcoin Falls
Post by: darkwingduck34 on January 20, 2018, 07:39:39 AM
I am trying to understand why altcoings are fall. Is there any way to see altcoin prices independent from Bitcoin? If demands are get higher for an altcoin while Bitcoin falls, do you think altcoin will get more value. I am newbie and trying to understand.

Because people are buying Bitcoins (https://coincodex.com/crypto/bitcoin/) with altcoins (https://coincodex.com/) so they lose less value.

Any coin can be expensive as bitcoin if they have same demand as the bitcoin holds. There is no connection between any cryotocurrency prices their price will be based on their demands respectively.Sometimes all the coins will fall when fake news spreading like bitcoin was banned in some countries then people will get panic and sell all their coins so the supply increases demand will decreases so this is the cause when bitcoin falls, the price of altcoins are also falling.

Because the BTC is like a bellwether for cryptocurrency markets, if BTC starts to fall, it means that all tokens will start to fall.
And after selling Altcoin, you get BTC, and if BTC goes down, then it means that the legal currency you get will also fall.
However, not all altcoins are independent, like ETH and LTC, which have already started to be controlled by BTC, and they will have their own rise and fall, which is different from BTC.

Often the whole market moves together. Bitcoin is tied to altcoins through trading pairs, and is also the gateway from fiat currencies. Sometimes bitcoin and alts move up or down together, for a variety of reasons.

Some good answers here (that BTC is tied to the altcoing trading pairs etc), but I think a bigger reason is market confidence itself. When BTC falls, people fear that the whole thing might be a bubble, and thus they may start cashing out, alt coins included. When BTC increases they feel more confident that crypto is the way of the future, and so new investors will now take more risk in investing in altcoins.

No, altcoins are dependent to bitcoin so there's always a domino effect when the price of bitcoin starts to be shaken out, altcoins will follow as well.

Yes, altcoins will get more value if there is a big demand but don't expect that it will stay for a long time. Traders will always be traders, they won't stay on a single coin unless they are just a holder. When that altcoin gets a big demand, they will simply sell that coin and buy back with bitcoin.

I think Bitcoin is a great influence to the alt coin market. While sometimes divergent as seen when Bitcoin pumps while altcoins dump, Bitcoin still leads the pack.

Because they are always going to depend on bitcoin, maybe you do not understand this because this is very difficult to understand if you are a newbie.

But if bitcoin drops, everybody is going to panic, and they all will sell their altcoins because they are afraid of losing everything because of a crash.

cause many altcoins are valued with bitcoin. bitcoin is the first coin and used to determined the value of all the market. the best cryptocurrency is bitcoin so bitcoin is top leader right now. so when bitcoin value drop others will follows.

I think Altcoins fall together with Bitcoin because they are connected, even if lots of people believe they are not. Despite a huge number of other crypto-currencies, on their growing popularity, Bitcoin has been and remains today the most popular digital currency. All investors look first at him, and mentally associate the fluctuations of his rate with the prices for the rest of Altcoins. As soon as the price of Bitcoin falls, people start to panic and this affects other crypto-currencies.

If you notice, when Bitcoin falls, all the alt's falls tick into tick and the chart is identical. Most likely this is due to the fact that the robots are trading and their algorithm is tied to the price of Bitcoin.

I think altcoins are dependent on  Bitcoin. Bitcoin has great influence on altcoins. But this is not true that when Bitcoin goes up all coins will follow. I have seen several time the opposite issue.

Everything in crypto depends of Bitcoin. When Bitcoin price drops and people are selling, most of them are selling their alts as well. When Bitcoin is falling the market confidence is very low.

The simple reason is that bitcoin market capitalization drives the whole market. Bitcoin market cap alone is about 40% or more of the total altcoin market. So what do you think when the king is going down, others will go down with it.

Some altcoins are just  following the flow of bitcoin because they are connected and sometimes the conversion takes place.

Because almost all crypto market pairs is trading to BTC. So, when BTC price go down - altcoins goes much deeper. Also BTC is used as an indicator of whole market and, when BTC price falls huge, everyone want's to sell alts.

Title: Re: Why Altcoins fall when Bitcoin Falls

I understand it that way: altcoins are still very joung as compared to BTC , and when the "father" grows up and  background is fine, so in most cases everything great with the altcoins and they grow too. But if some bad news about Bitcoin come, so this idyll is disturbed. BTC falls and pulls other coins, so probably the most serious and strong projects could stay afloat, but by the long fall of BTC they will go down too, or very very strong news about these projects are needed, that will generate demand on them and they won't fall. In most cased the news for  coins /tokens are not working when BTC falls to the hell. But  situation will change in year-two.

Because bitcoin is the boss of all the other coins. It does not matter if it's tokens or coins, it's just that there's a strict BTC / coin (token) binding on the stock exchange, that's why I think there was such a situation with the fall and take-off, but I think that in fact, the drop and growth is very difficult to explain

Because bitcoin still the main cryptocurrency so everyone see from bitcoin price.i don't think it's a good idea to buy bitcoin with altcoin when the price down. Since it will doing similar when the bitcoin rise the other altcoin will rise too and the opposite. If you wanna know the altcoin prices you could open marketcap price from Google its complete page about their prices and there is a chart of growth.

Altcoin will get more value if they can get high demand as bitcoin have but if not of course it wont be happen anyway. Altcoins goes down only if bitcoin get increase but this time while Bitcoin down the altcoin also goes down maybe because people sell more with altcoins too or maybe many are buying bitcoin with alts too.

There are two factors in this.

One is that altcoins are denominated in terms of BTC, so when USD/BTC goes down so does Alt/USD = (Alt/BTC)/(USD/BTC) = (Alt/(BTC/USD))/USD by virtue of BTC/USD increasing.

The factor is that altcoin prices tend to adjust in terms of USD. When Bitcoin goes down, altcoins adjust their BTC price to a point where they remain roughly the same (give or take 10-30%) in terms of USD.

Altcoin is independent from Bitcoin but you should think all the coins value are described in USD/BTC. So Bitcoin value is down in market automatically some other altcoins values are down and also some other altcoins are raise. Because it is depends on the demand. If any problems are affected in market some investors are exchange the coin. This is reflected in the cryptocurrency value. You are in newbie so you should analyse the complete strategy of cryptocurrency.

Although most of some altcoins are independent they are all relying on each other because of their similarities. Bitcoin is the case why the market even exists. All other altcoins were made on the similar principles the Bitcoin was made on. A situation in the crypto market is very labile and a little fluctuation of the coin with the biggest value (BTC) can shake the holding structure of the other altcoins that are beneath that structure.

Supply and demand are also unstable so when the little correction starts people are always cashing our their loveable portfolio of the crypto coins in the panic. Some worldwide regulations are shaking the crypto industry and that can be sensed with all the coins that ain't connected with the technology standards but are connected because their similar technology that is suitable for the different purposes.

Because it's the first, the reference, the "father" and a trust index of the crypto-world.
More than that, the pairs on the exchanges are mostly based on the BTC.

Yes, it was the case of the last big drop but this is not often the case .
If you would research the history of market, you would see that there are many instances when BTC is drooping and ALTS are going up.

Moreover I think that there is a correlation : when btc is stable alts are growing.

Title: Re: Why Altcoins fall when Bitcoin Falls

This happens due to the fact that BTC is the main currency in the calculation of cross-rates. In addition, it has the largest capitalization among cryptocurrencies. That is why fluctuations of BTC affect other market participants.

One of the reasons of this phenomenon is that you can't exchange most of the altcoin directly to a local currency since the one accepted is the bitcoin. You must first convert your money(local currency) to bitcoin before you can buy an altcoin. I believe if the exchange is direct (local currency to altcoins), altcoins would not be affected anymore by bitcoin price.

First thing first, when you think about cryptocurrency, what goes through the mind of the newbies or the just heards is bitcoin. That's usually their entry point. We all started with having just bitcoin, then in a few weeks or months we tend to realise there's a whole different world called altcoins that will also help us make more bitcoins, so then we go into trading. When bitcoin falls most of the light heqrted ones withdraw their investment, convert all their coins to fiat even if at loss. So all the more bitcoin and altcoin falls altogether.

I think that although bitcoin dominance is very low right now, and is only 34% (and I say low, because it was above 50% during a lot of time), it doesn't mean that people actually trust altcoins more than they trust bitcoin. I think they know that if bitcoin actually ever fails, not other altcoin will have a chance. Because if we get honest here, what do they really offer in terms of concept that bitcoin does not have? Bitcoin created this world, so if it fails so will other alts. So, in my opinion, when people see that bitcoin is showing signs of weakness, they actually start having doubts on the entire crypto world, and sell anything they have.

Of course that these last dips were due to the China exchange ban, and now the possible South Korea exchange ban. So these moves affected the entire crypto market, so it was normal for every cryptocurrency to drop.

It going on from the long time that when bitcoin is on the move up or down altcoins always goes down and there is a simple logic behind this and that is when bitcoin is on the move most of the money is invest in bitcoin and the people in other coins sell their coins to buy bitcoin and sell bitcoin when it goes up again so they can get more profit and when bitcoin goes down they start early when buy it back again when it starts to go up again so they can make amazing profit from it.

its not possible because bitcoin and altcoin price is interconnected with the entire world economy,

only thing is that you can observe a korrelation of the value of bitcoin and less known altcoins that are bought with bitcoin or ethereum,

bigger coins, that are better established behave more independent.

Title: Re: Why Altcoins fall when Bitcoin Falls

of course this will happen when bitcoin prices are decreasing and there is an influence on the value of altcoin that will come downhill because at a time like this there will be two possibilities that will be done the traders. that will buy some bitcoin with altcoin they have and besides of course there will be many traders who choose to hold their bitcoin and wait until market price on bitcoin will return to show improvement. it is just a few observations that I just do and of course there will be many other factors that cause this to happen.

Simple reason is, bitcoin leader and altcoin follower and follower never become leader. Altcoin will have more value if demand get higher than supply, mostly because buyer take action ( buy or hold ) in huge number. We don't know which answer is true but because real market is mystery that's why many people replace their asset into it ( unpredictable ). Don't waste time find answer, just follow your strategy and try to fix it when problem comes up. See you next time bro.

Title: Re: Why Altcoins fall when Bitcoin Falls

The primary reason is because altcoins are priced on exchanges according to BTC. It's how many satoshis etc. With the fall of BTC, all things compared to BTC will decrease in value too. This is why altcoins must move away from being compared to BTC when it comes to pricing. When that happens, the correlation won't be as strong.

maybe this answer is right cuase as i see when that time bitcoin keep crashing i've noticed the alts is affected on the circumstances of bitcoin even the other alts has a red tagged also in the market list.  which is keep crashing gradually when bitcoin drop. Maybe some of the investor, invest in alt and they also covert to bitcoin when bitcoin drop, that's why the price of alts is affected. Also.

That is simply because bitcoin is the mother of all cryptocurrencies and we all know that our alternate coins will be converted to bitcoin in order to cash it out into fiat, in most cases. So that means there is an altcoin-bitcoin pairing that greatly affects altcoins' market value when bitcoin's value goes down.

The answer is people's panic, bitcoin is called as the king of the crypto so when its price fall other coin holders tends to get panic and will sell their coins to cash out because they will think this is the end of crypto(this news keeps spreading everytime when bitcoin price falls).SO they will sell their coins so the demand for their coins decreases and price also decreases. But there is no relation between the price of bitcoin an altcoin(directly). Each and every coin price is based on their demand and supply.
There maybe some other reason like they are selling there altcoins to buy bitcoin because it is a good thing to buy bitcoin when the price is crashed or dumped because we all knows that price of bitcoin will recover.

agree with this fact .

bitcoin is main pair of currency of all altcoins on big exchanges .
so when bitcoin falls in terms of dollar , altcoins too fall , and in fear of down market people also do not pump it / buy it from fiat , so altcoins value go down with bitcoin downwards movement .

Yes I agree with this too. Because every time bitcoin rapidly falls down, most altcoins are going down too, but there are certain coins still remain it's good condition and still get higher demand and also the price increases.

Most exchanges compares a certain coin to bitcoin price, thus if bitcoin fall altcoin drops as well. Altcoins appear to be dependent on bitcoin, you might actually buy Alternative coin using bitcoin. Altcoin value will not be affected only when exchanges stop using BTC as a control value (but this would not be possible).

Another reason would be the reaction of people from the sudden changes in value, it might be panic selling which causes the demand became lesser. Most investors are easily affected by sudden changes in value,  this tends them to sell their coin. People must learn to hold their altcoin no matter what the change in price, this will help stabilize its value.

My advice to you would be that you should wait, watch and learn about market cycles first of all as you are new here. There is no logic to be honest, bitcoin moves upwards, alts falls, btc moves down, alts fall again. Earlier there used to be only inverse relation between btc and alts. Now that markets are just dump. Market makers drop the prices of alts to buy them cheap I think.

I am trying to understand why altcoings are fall. Is there any way to see altcoin prices independent from Bitcoin? If demands are get higher for an altcoin while Bitcoin falls, do you think altcoin will get more value. I am newbie and trying to understand.
what I think is that it's because all the altcoins are listed according to BTC price, since almost all exchanges are BTC-Alt. So when BTC drops in $ value the apparent altcoin $ value also drops.

Because some alternative coins depend their prices on bitcoin that's why if bitcoin falls some alt coins will fall also.

this is may look so hard to understand but we are may able to understand it not just in a way in a very easy way of cause we all know how it may be so hard for to understand a lot of things that are not so pretty to take at first just like this you may truly understand for what may ever be happen when you are been experience a lot of that while you are in trading.

Being the father/head of all the cryptocurrencies i think the effects of bitcoin's price is spread throughout the entire market of cryptos, people tend to lose trust or credibility over the cryptocurrency with regards to profitability of their investment in that market. This is based on my analysis but there are still alts that pumps during that event.

I think it because other altcoin's price is base on Bitcoin. Like 1 doge = 60 satoshies . Then when the bitcoin's price is falling down, the valuable of each satoshi is going down too.. That's why.
that is the most simply way to think and answer why. alt coin price nowadays follows usd rates and considering bitcoin price paired with usd mostly it makes alt coin price go down in usd rates , but not when it paired with bitcoin.

it is indeed alt coin price remain the same in bitcoin rate for example 1 ethereum = $1,100 when bitcoin price at the highest, but then bitcoin price dropped 1 ethereum down to $900 each. but still 0.08 bitcoin each and so on.

Seriously?

BTC can be traded for USD, most Altcoins can't. So if the Altcoin you are holding can only be traded for Bitcoin, then it's USD value is directly correlated to it's Bitcoin value.

Because if I hold a Crypto that is .2 BTC, and .2 BTC goes from $5,000 to $2,000 then unless I can sell my Coin directly for USD, then I can't do anything but buy Bitcoins with it, which makes it $2000 instead of $5000.

But, if you can find a Website where you can trade an Altcoin for USD and Bitcoin, then you may be able to actually make Money buying and selling them as the 2 even out. Because if Bitcoin falls, but I can still sell my Coin for $5000 USD, then I can do that, then buy BTC with the USD at $2000 ea, and then go buy my Coin with BTC, since that is still at .2 regardless of the price of Bitcoin.

Everyone remember this and tell everyone they can do it too.

Usually , when visiting the coin market cap website , with just a bit of experience you can recognize a pattern of money moving from one altcoin to another and then going back to bitcoin or Eth (which both remain the longest time holders of respectively 1st and second spot ) .
And this  was a normal routine of pump and dump and just another cycle of making money for the big whales while persuading people to invest in the "hyped coin" , then just get all their money out of it to generate the biggest possible profit .
Yet these days this isn't the case at all and a lot of money is just "disappearing" and "fading away" from the market , since the overall market value is going down continuously .
This could have one of many causes , it can be big whales stepping out of the game , it could be the Chinese lunar new year  , it could be the consequences of the rumors about closing all exchanges in south Korea by the government ,  etc ..
What i'm sure of tho , is that holding for the moment and waiting for the upcoming changes is the optimal choice .

A common trading strategy is to calculate the correlation between two assets. Say Ethereum Blue and Bitcoin have a correlation of 2.5x (for every $1 increase in BTC, BLUE goes up $2.5). Bots love these mathematical trading strategies because they are easy to follow and easy to program. Just like charting strategy and momentum strategy, they work well because everyone *thinks* they work well. It is a self-fulfilling prophecy.

is currently hard to predict when Bitcoin down altcoin rises not now bitcoin down altcoin come flushed down. maybe a lot of news about banned bitcoin ban in some areas so many sell bitcoin so decreased and when bitcoin down those who have altcoin buy bitcoin then altcoin also decreased

From my personal prespective i think that the recent fall to the cryptocurrency prices in gerneral, goes to the recent news of  goverments that gave been annonicing regulations toward it, due to many people abusing cryptocurrency to escape paying taxes or bad use of it to make illeagal transactions and with its price and its market growing unexpectedly many goverments like south korea, indounisia, maroc are banning or thinking about banning cryptocurrency and this i think has lead to many people pulling thier investments from this industry in fear of future loss, and this has lead to the price going down.

Because altcoins are into trade with bitcoin, you are seeing altcoin with equal value of bitcoin.
of course once bitcoin fall the price in dollar reduce and the altcoin has an equal value in bitcoin, they are not falling in bitcoin value sometimes even bitcoin fall they increase but if you look at the dollar value,  altcoin price will drop because bitcoin price went down with dollar market value.

No, if bitcoin goes down, all the altcoins go down because they sell all their coins too. It is not difficult to predict that, and you do not need to be a clever guy to know that.

If bitcoin dies, altcoin holders are going to lose their faith -> they sell everything = the price drops.
is currently hard to predict when Bitcoin down altcoin rises not now bitcoin down altcoin come flushed down. maybe a lot of news about banned bitcoin ban in some areas so many sell bitcoin so decreased and when bitcoin down those who have altcoin buy bitcoin then altcoin also decreased

There is no price connection between bitcoin and altcoin. But Bitcoin will react to market sentiment and move to wards the direction of the news either positive or negative. The altcoin prices moves according to the demand in the market.

Bitcoin is the pioneer coin. In my opinion, the most of the people are making their transactions according to price situation of the bitcoin, and I think this is not logic. As long as the people continue making their transactions according to that, I think the cryptocurrencies will never reach a good market appearance.
