Title: 6 card rack mount frame
Post by: moneymachine on August 21, 2013, 06:33:42 PM
What do you guys think? This is my first try for a rack mount gpu miner. Next version is going to be configured a little different, and it will have aluminum paneling on the sides to direct the airflow.

It's running in an un-airconditioned garage that hovers around 95f, hottest card gets to 78c

Nice :)

But one Question:
Does the three fans push or pull the air ??

Right now they're setup to push, been working pretty well like that, there's a little over an inch between them.

I see you are using the lepa 1600. Did you have to split the load on the rails in any special way to keep either of the two rails from overloading?

95 is pretty damned hot.  I am lucky that I live in a house with a deep stone-wall basement.  Perfect for chilling wine (if I could afford some) or housing noisy computer equipment.  Even in summer it's maybe 70 degrees down there.

But seriously man - you want to put that nice rig into that hot ass garage?  I would be digging a hole or finding somewhere else I could hide that.  Even if it was at work, or at a friends house (who you would have to pay for power I am sure).  :-)

Haven't done anything special in that regard. I have 5 of the cards running on the gpu side, and the other running on the aux side (black ports).

Yea it is hot but it's been running pretty well so far, I don't think 78c on the hottest card is a deal breaker. I could put it in my office but I rather not pay to cool this monster with the a/c too. I'm going to install a large extractor in the garage that should be able to keep the temp at ambient, (88-72).

Just put this together today. It's not working yet, just a fit test on the GPUs. This will go in a 4 post rack in a server room.

How many U high is that? If you wanted to put multiple of these chassis into a rack, how would you move air from front->back? The GPUs are oriented the wrong way.

It's 5U. It's a smallish server room, no hot/cool aisle setup.
