Might have a look over at this article.  It sure scares me from ever buying one of these.

Why would you be scared of buying one?

Getting one from someone else you may want to consider the trust but buying one should be fine. It is good for cold storage.

Thank you i should have put from buying from someone else who is unknown.

I really like the idea of them, the scary part would be entering it in after having it in cold storage and the code be invalid/used.

Very interesting read.

Photographically vertified Coins ought to be safe(r) from tampering, so that's probably kind of a possible "hotfix":

At the time he came up with them 1 BTC was worth like 5 bucks. A few people pointed out different ways people could break it (X-ray, other types of scans, etc). But the sentiment was that nobody would go through so much trouble for 5 bucks and they were meant more as a novelty and not a medium of exchange.

This is old news, hence the August 4th date on the linked article. I think the consensus is that Casacius Bitcoins are not really intended to be used as a secure method of storing bitcoin. They are more of a "cool" novelty-type item.

Apparently, changes have been made to the process to make them more secure. Do a search and you will find more on the topic. Again, I don't think Casacius was ever intended to be used as a secure storage method.

There are some very good innovations to protect against this in future pieces.  The new models should be improved. :)

In the mean time there are these:

Bitcoin Bullion pieces (they don't store coins inside).
