Title: Noob questions
Post by: LrL1113 on August 22, 2013, 03:24:17 AM
How is a bitcoin wallet started? Is there some kind of software that is recommended (or in existence) that helps with starting a wallet? ...or is that just a big fat risk of privacy? I've read through bitcoin.org, and continue to read threads here, but I could use help.

A wallet is created and maintained through software. There is a bunch of wallet software out there but this should get you going http://bitcoin.org/en/choose-your-wallet (http://bitcoin.org/en/choose-your-wallet)

Coinbase has not verified my bank account after three days of waiting.  Don't know if that is standard.

EDIT:  Blockchain.info has had some major security problems with wallets created there.  Supposedly fixed, but read the related threads in "Bitcoin Discussion" and be careful.

Not sure how long it should take. But when dealing with banking that does not seem long.

As far as wallets... The most important thing to know is that you should make multiple copies of your wallet and store them like they are real wallets. If you loose your wallet, you have lost whatever was in it. No going back.
